Tell me why it should matter that McCown isn't on the staff? And tell me why it should matter that he got an interview, or three? No Josh McCown anywhere on staff. Tell me again why this jackhole got 3 interviews for HC?
Why should anyone be blamed? And how do you define failure? When Lovie fails. Who gets the blame?
I'm sure it wont be who it should be, Janice/Calhoun McNair)
It tells me the guy doing the hiring is the wrong guy. Doesn't even know what the qualifications are.Tell me why it should matter that McCown isn't on the staff? And tell me why it should matter that he got an interview, or three?
Look at the last 20 yrs for your definition. Why should anyone be blamed? And how do you define failure?
I like how it all came together, in the end. I'm looking forward to this coming season.
And if he doesn’t fail who get the praise? When Lovie fails. Who gets the blame?

Everybody involved. And if doesn’t fail who get the praise?
The blind squirrel. And if he doesn’t fail who get the praise?
Quoted for truthThe blind squirrel.
How is that truth? Lol smhQuoted for truth
Quoted for truth
If Lovie and Caserio bring a container to Kirby the McNair's will be extremely lucky, since obviously Caserio and Lovie aren't aligned. It remains to be seen if the McNair's will spend in fa when the time comes. How is that truth? Lol smh
I don't find this to be obvious unless I put stock Texian's speculation. Which I don't.obviously Caserio and Lovie aren't aligned
To be fair. I don't think @Texian mentioned anything about Caserio and Lovie being unaligned. I don't know if Texian's speculation is true or false. However, it's hilarious watching the impact. It also explains how some narratives takes hold and no amount of logic, facts or common sense will debunk that narrative.I don't find this to be obvious unless I put stock Texian's speculation. Which I don't.
Of course you don'tI don't find this to be obvious unless I put stock Texian's speculation. Which I don't.
All I can tell you is I watched the entire Lovie Smith press conference introducing Lovie as the new head coach. Since then, I have watched or listened to about a half dozen Lovie interviews and a couple of Caserio interviews. To be fair. I don't think @Texian mentioned anything about Caserio and Lovie being unaligned. I don't know if Texian's speculation is true or false. However, it's hilarious watching the impact. How many years is Lovie's contract? All I can tell you is I watched the entire Lovie Smith press conference introducing Lovie as the new head coach. Since then, I have watched or listened to about a half dozen Lovie interviews and a couple of Caserio interviews.
To me, objectively speaking of course, it definitely sounds as though Lovie is in charge. He speaks like he is responsible for all football operations. Lovie says he will hire his coaches. (He did) Lovie says he and his staff will be responsible for bringing in talented players who fit and can play in Lovie's systems. In all interviews listened to, Lovie as the HC, sounds like the boss and the spokesperson for the team. Lovie publicly relieved Caserio from his game day headphone duties.
Caserio's interviews, post Lovie HC hire, have been much more conciliatory in nature than his previous interviews. Caserio speaks with a lot less, me, and I. His pronoun of choice is now we. He ended one interview with, it's still my responsibility to operate the draft keeping the coaches informed and what needs to be done to move up or down. And that was his only mention of where he is in charge.
Now I may be a bit naive, or just plain dumb but with some basic elementary deductive reasoning all indications strongly suggest that Lovie did not just show up all giddy like David Culley and say where do I sign. The behavior of the folks involved indicate that Lovie being a 2-time NFL HC, shows up with a keen insight, already knowing what to expect and had a strong list of demands, some non-negotiable, that had to be met in order for him to agree to be HC. One being he was not going to be another David Culley sock puppet. So far, the words and the actions of the actors involved seem to support that objective deductive reasoning.
I'm saying the actions, behavior and comments from the characters involved, are all saying, that in order for Lovie to agree to become the HC, Lovie had to have full control over hiring his staff, Lovie had to have final say on players and the roster, including the draft and free agency and Lovie had to be the spokesperson for the team. And Cal AGREED.Of course you don't
Are you saying that things haven't changed down on Kirby and there's a boardroom down there instead of one guy making the final calls?
Hope you're wrong.I'm saying the actions, behavior and comments from the characters involved, are all saying, that in order for Lovie to agree to become the HC, Lovie had to have full control over hiring his staff, Lovie had to have final say on players and the roster, including the draft and free agency and Lovie had to be the spokesperson for the team. IDK and IDK his salary either. I'd guess 5 years and he's making more than David Culley was making. Lovie really had Cal over a barrel. If Cal doesn't hire Lovie they are back in square one at the end of another hiring cycle with a bunch of leftovers to sort thru. They would've been left to smelling a bunch of dirty T-shirts trying to hire the one that didn't smell as bad as the others. It was beginning to look a lot like David Culley 2.0.How many years is Lovie's contract?
IMO I think Caserio is still setting the table but Lovie and his staff will be picking the groceries and planning the menu. You say they are screwed but it was Pep who was responsible for drafting Mills and Collins, who you love. Also, I think there is a strong chance this time around you may actually see pictures of Jack Easterby in the cafeteria and not at the head table in the draft war room.Hope you're wrong.
How long does Lovie's contract run. If Lovie is in charge of the draft this team is screwed.
Or just hire the guy Caserio wanted,IDK and IDK his salary either. I'd guess 5 years and he's making more than David Culley was making. Lovie really had Cal over a barrel. What if Gannon turned the job down because he didn’t want the Pastor’s hand picked Deacon to be his OC, assistant head coach and or quarterbacks coach. Or what if he turned down because they didn’t want to get rid of Lovie.Or just hire the guy Caserio wanted,
Gannon
What if the sun doesn't come up tomorrow? What if Gannon turned the job down because he didn’t want the Pastor’s hand picked Deacon to be his OC, assistant head coach and or quarterbacks coach. Or what if he turned down because they didn’t want to get rid of Lovie.
You’re guessing just like everyone else. We do not know how those interviews truly went. What if the sun doesn't come up tomorrow?
We do know we're stuck with dysfunction again. You’re guessing just like everyone else. We do not know how those interviews truly went.
No doubt, but things might be somewhat different now.We do know we're stuck with dysfunction again.

If your speculation doesn’t agree with others speculation you must be wrong. What if the sun doesn't come up tomorrow?
I think Gannon nixed that. Was not interested in being a Caserio/Easterby sock puppet.Or just hire the guy Caserio wanted,
Gannon
Seems there was one guy that made the call only the guy was Cal and not Caserio, whether that is good or bad remains to be seen but if the choices were bringing in Gannon, who didn't impress at all in Philly, and losing Lovie or making Lovie the HC then I personally think it was a good thing. As far as Lovie and Caserio not being aligned that makes no sense as Lovie was hand picked by Caserio to be the DC knowing that Culley wouldn't have a clue what to do with a defense since he had never worked with one. Speaking of Culley seems that whomever Caserio isn't aligned with he fires so again the not aligned doesn't make sense.Of course you don't
Are you saying that things haven't changed down on Kirby and there's a boardroom down there instead of one guy making the final calls?
I agree with you that Lovie knew alot more going into it than Culley did just by virtue of this being his third time to the dance. Culley did an ok job but mostly he was just happy to finally grab that brass ring he has been chasing for 3 decades and be able to look back and say "I was an NFL HC." 22 million dollar retirement package didn't hurt either. Likewise I agree Lovie wanted more control but I don't think that was as big an issue for either Cal or Caserio as some make it sound simply because Lovie has done it before they trust him more. Either way while I was hoping for an offensive coach and then Lovie stay as DC if the choice was between losing Lovie or making him HC then give him a contract and pay the man.All I can tell you is I watched the entire Lovie Smith press conference introducing Lovie as the new head coach. Since then, I have watched or listened to about a half dozen Lovie interviews and a couple of Caserio interviews.

Right or wrong I chose to cancel my investment and take the lossIf your speculation doesn’t agree with others speculation you must be wrong.
Ok. Just trying to figure out the rules of the game.
That has nothing to do with my post but you keep telling anyone you can get in ear shot with.Right or wrong I chose to cancel my investment and take the loss
I think you're wrong about Gannon wanting the job.I think Gannon nixed that. Was not interested in being a Caserio/Easterby sock puppet.
If people would listen/watch the Lovie interviews since being named head coach and also listen/watch the Caserio interview, I think it is easy for one to understand that there has been a change in the chain of command.
BTW the Sun says good morning and to be sure to bring your sunglasses.
I get that nobody cares. I just answer questions. That has nothing to do with my post but you keep telling anyone you can get in ear shot with.
It hasn’t gotten old hearing you scream it from a mountain.
No one cares anymore.
You are willing to miss out on life’s best experiences with friends and family just to pound the sand. You are making decisions based on a reality you made up in your mind that doesn’t exist.I enjoyed the last 2 years of getting up late and talking to friends on the phone about the game.
I'm going to miss the guys and their families that I've sat around for almost 2 decades and the people that we've tailgated with for about a decade.
Maybe I realized during the 2 Covid yrs what I was missing by going to the games. You are willing to miss out on life’s best experiences with friends and family just to pound the sand. You are making decisions based on a reality you made up in your mind that doesn’t exist.
You don’t even know if these decisions that you disagree with make the team better next year and future years.
If I was a business owner like you I would keep the season tickets as a write off and pass them out to your best suppliers and customers. They would be appreciative.
This simply reveals/verifies that the options were discussed by those involved. One thing is for sure, Nick Caserio is a very good Spin Doctor.

This is where Nick let the Cat out of the bag where it was not his decision.

really? Ok Cal whatever you say.Tell me why it should matter that McCown isn't on the staff? And tell me why it should matter that he got an interview, or three?
You are a hopeless Texans addict just like the rest of us. Might as well keep the season tickets. You’ll still be talking about them on this forumMaybe I realized during the 2 Covid yrs what I was missing by going to the games.
I was on the fence and this off-season knocked me off of the fence. 2 decades of giving incompetence money seems kind of ignorant to me and know, nothing has changed other than the names down on Kirby. The McNair's and the way they go about doing business.
Like I said, I will probably go to a couple of games.
Yup. All of it.One thing is for sure, Nick Caserio is a very good Spin Doctor.
Texans GM: Brian Flores in mix for coach hire but Lovie Smith 'made the most sense' (houstonchronicle.com)
“Ultimately, Cal (McNair) put it (hiring a HC) on my shoulders to kind of make the decision I felt was best and to bring candidates to the table,” Caserio said. “Cal was very supportive and open (and) certainly put a lot of stock in the things I had to say.”
TRANSLATION: (Note there is no mention of Lovie in above italicized statement.)
Since Josh McDaniels and Jared Mayo would not return my calls, I fired Culley right after Flores was fired by the Dolphins with intentions of hiring Brian after working with him for several years in New England. Unfortunately, Flores filed his lawsuit against the NFL and the Texans, and this prohibited me from hiring him. - STRIKE ONE
I next focused on hiring Josh McCown and after 3 interviews I was prepared to offer Josh a contract. It was a done deal before it was impressed upon me that due to the nature of Flores lawsuit it would not be in the best interest of the Texans to hire Josh McCown. - STRIKE TWO
After fiddle farting around, my next best option (since all other had already been hired) had dwindled down to Johnathan Gannon, DC Eagles. Gannon wanted to be responsible for hiring his own coaching staff. Gannon wasn't interested in keeping Lovie as his DC which was a deal breaker (per Cal and Janice), so Gannon withdrew from consideration. - STRIKE 3.
After striking out (Flores, McCown, Gannon) I was back in square one at the end of the hiring cycle. I was left to smell the few remaining dirty T-shirts and trying to hire the T-Shirt that didn't smell as bad as the others.
That's when Cal stepped in and said, we're (WE) going to hire Lovie as our next HC and he will be in charge of football operations, players and X and Os.
This is where Nick let the Cat out of the bag that it was not his decision. He changes from I to WE"
"But, in the end,Iwe just felt that Lovie made the most sense for our team and situation at the time.”
Save the time and money. You are a hopeless Texans addict just like the rest of us. Might as well keep the season tickets. You’ll still be talking about them on this forum
Yes, really. It (the process) certainly doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is the final product and I like what the Texans ended up with.really? Ok Cal whatever you say.
Can’t help but root for the guy. I am “aligned” with his philosophy on how to win football games!Latest Lovie interview with comments on finding common ground with Caserio, his defensive philosophy and looking for "stern teachers" on the coaching staff.
Lol, and if they lose he still wants to beat the **** out of their offense. Can’t help but root for the guy. I am “aligned” with his philosophy on how to win football games!
