Head Coach Candidate (Lovie Smith Hired) 2/7/22

The rules state that interviews must stop as soon as the participating SB teams arrive to the SB city to practice. The Rams technically would not have been able to interview anytime recently since they reside in the SB city. The Bengals will still be able to interview until they arrive in Ca. Tuesday.
Any word on when the Texans will make an announcement?

Important to remember that a coach who is preparing for the big game may well have had time to interview in the past week but may have requested that an announcement not be made until after the super bowl is played.
Didn’t stop the Vikings from announcing O’Connell. Now they can’t officially sign him until after the SB, so I guess he could still pull a McDaniels.

So if the Texans are looking at someone on the Rams or Bengals, those interviews should have been done already, at the very least.

As for the hush hush and secrecy with the Texans right now with all of this, I have no clue. Just Texans being Texans I guess. Even the Saints, who haven’t hired, are announcing interviews. The Texans aren’t even doing anymore of those … that we know of anyway.

The wait and all quiet has me starting to believe Nick and the Pastor aren’t “aligned” anymore.

There's definitely non-alignment. I hate non-alignment. Like that damn desk I tried to put together.

I wonder if they are no longer a flat structure.

Maybe they are now stacked, cubed, squared, or rectangular. Tell us Cal! Inquiring minds want to know!

Speaking of alignment. Remember how frequently BOB and Gaine mentioned alignment and being aligned? That alignment lasted about 18 months. It's funny reading the comments.

So, we have gone from acquiring Texans worthy players to not acquiring Mulugheta worthy clients? I'm not sure you know this, but David Mulugheta is not the founder or owner of the Athletes First agency. In fact, he's not even the only AF agent. Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Donald, Dak Prescott, Fletcher Cox, Budda Baker and many other players are all AF clients but their agents are Todd France, Brian Murphy and other agents

Currently, AF is the second most valuable NFL agency. If Mulugheta was doing something to diminish that brand he would probably get fired and not be able to take his clients with him. My point is similar to Scott Boras, many teams might hate dealing with him. But if your team is too weak to deal with him or agents like him then you will be ignoring a significant pool of players and even coaches.

Which I'm fine with

I would deal with others from AF but nobody Mulageta represents.

Did they?

I think reporters have deduced that will happen, but I don't think the Vikings have announced anything
When the reputable reporters announce it, it’s either coming from the team or the player/coach. Like I said, nothing’s official, but it’s being reported by reputable sources. As opposed to the Jack shit (pun intended) coming out of Texansville.

The timetable has been destroyed by the Flores lawsuit.
If it ain’t one thing it’s another, smh. Another question, do you think Gannon is no longer the guy? Not that it would surprise me if they changed their minds, as the front office seems so indecisive.

Not denying that. Welsh Texan said a coach in the Super Bowl may have requested not to make any agreement public until after the game. You responded…

Didn’t stop the Vikings from announcing O’Connell.

But the Vikings didn’t report anything. From what I understand reporters are saying the other candidates have said the Vikings told them they aren’t being considered. I’m assuming, by the way they are reporting, O’Connell declined to comment.

So yes, it’s a good assumption. But welsh Texans point stands & reports of O’Connell to the Vikings doesn’t undermind it.

Here's my stand on this.

We fans do not know who the people in charge are or are not seriously considering. Not really. We don't know who they've talked to or how extensively.

We may not even know who they've had actual face to face meetings with.

We cannot trust anything the media says. They don't really know. They're mostly just guessing, just like us, hearing rumors, trying to make sense of it.

We don't really know who is in power or how much power they have. We only have hearsay and hypotheticals.

It may turn out that these rumors are true or contain a grain of truth, but they may all be BS.

I will not be surprised if we end up going after a Callahan or Raheem Morris.
I would like to see either get a 2nd chance. Raheem wasn't ready, he did win 10 games but was fired. Callahan is a oline coach too and always has a good run game. Unfortunately, the Texans didn't interview any of those guys.

Pretty much. He has a few 1st rd picks this year also. So if they don't deal with players like Kelce and Cheetah and they don't deal with Athletes First Clients, then the pool is much smaller and it makes it very difficult to field top notch teams. So the Texans are already at a talent disadvantage and with Pedersen in the division, they're at a coaching disadvantage also. Thats alot of obstacles to overcome.

Saints have a pretty good team. He might look even better in Nawlins

Aren’t they like 70 million over the cap? Like the Rams, they went all in and due to injuries or just bad luck they couldn’t get to the SB before their window closed.

That team is going to be shaved down quite a bit this upcoming season. There’s a reason Payton chose “retirement”.

For **** sake. We're really going by the technical ******* letter here? I guess if that can keep an argument going, huh?

And none of it changes the fact he interviewed with them while still active in the playoffs. So that shouldn't be the reason why the Texans are waiting, if they're even looking at anybody on the Rams or Bengals, which I doubt.

Really stinks we're not considering Mike McDaniel or Demeco Ryans.

If we go with Flores in the wake of this dumb ****, I think that'll be my final straw for my fandom. Which also stinks because just a few weeks ago I may have considered him as I thought he did a good job in Miami.

I'd hire my grandma over that cancerous loser.

Flores is an ANGRY black man! He had a job with the Patriots, won some super bowls, then GET'S a head coaching job in Miami (guess it wasn't about race then, since he was hired over whites), spent 3 seasons as head coach 24-25 record, no playoff appearances (under .500 record for 49 games, he had a chance), sure they talk about the 7 game winning streak, but what about the 1-7 start? Hard to get along with, has been through many assistant coaches and coordinators in the 3 years. Loses his job and then plays the RACE CARD against all 32 teams?????? It would be the EXACT hire that this dysfunctional organization needs! LMAO, I can see Cal giving him a lifetime contract with 1 billion dollars guaranteed with the stipulation that his entire staff has to be black! I hope Flores never coaches in the NFL again!

Brian Flores is Honduran. Shouldn't you be calling him an angry South American or angry Mestizo? The ANGRY black man label is funny to me. Hell, has anyone called BOB an angry white man? How about other HCs with prickly attitudes like Belichick, Zimmer, or Gruden. Has anyone called them angry white men?

My point is you can criticize Flores without the angry label. For example. The minute he steps in the court room. They will bring up his hiring practice as Dolphins HC and it will be similar to owners hiring HCs.

"Flores had 20 coaches on his 2021 coaching staff, with 15 of those white and five black.

Flores hired four offensive coordinators during his time with the Dolphins, including co-coordinators in 2021. Three of those four are white.

Flores hired four offensive line coaches during his tenure, and three of those four are white.

Flores hired two defensive coordinators during his time as head coach, one black and one white.

Flores hired four quarterback or assistant quarterback coaches during his three years, and three of those four are white, with Jim Caldwell the only exception. Caldwell, it should be noted, worked under Flores for a couple of months but departed before the 2019 season began, citing health issues.

Flores hired one special teams coordinator during his time as coach, that being Danny Crossman, who is white."

Ordinarily, I'd ignore a post like this. It's my day off though so I'm throwing back a couple and inevitably, that makes me even more blunt and honest then usual.

I find your post trivial and narrow minded at best. You are a deeply ingrained racist even if your to naive to understand it.

Odd that the talent in the sport should be so overwhelming black but the coaches and owners don't represent that. That's a problem and after this many decades, it's not by accident.

Slither back to where you came from and never post with hate again.

In this case. Yes. Keep hope alive & all that.

So that shouldn't be the reason why the Texans are waiting,

wish it was. We know they interviewed O’Connell. But he wasn’t listed as a finalist. We have no reason to believe they interviewed or considered anyone else on the Super Bowl teams.

so yes, I agree with you. Chances of them waiting for the Super Bowl is slim.

I don’t understand how the Flores thing changed the time table. He told them the lawsuit was coming. If they decided then they weren’t going to hire him in light of the lawsuit, they can easily say he was a finalist but decided we have too much going on already to bring on extra baggage.

No one would fault them for that.

If they had decided they were going to hire Flores anyway… then I could see a delay.

This thing about Gannon’s choice of staff… doesn’t make sense to me. Nobody expects him to have a staff in place right now. It’s not necessary for them to announce Gannon as HC.

& the season ticket thing. Announcing Gannon or Flores now would give them time to sell them to prospective ticket buyers.

If they chose McCown, that’s the only reason I can see for the delay. They know they can’t put lipstick on that. Better to wait until after that season ticket day (or whatever) before announcing that.

even then they should be getting more interviews under their belt.

Pep Hamilton lost out on the Chicago OC opening and turned down an interview with Carolina. Right now, it appears he will stay with the Texans, probably as OC.

It appears Lovie is remaining as DC.

The last report we had on the Texans HC opening was that Caserio preferred Gannon, but had differences with Gannon on his (Gannon's) staffing preferences. Most likely this involves the retention of Hamilton and/or Smith.

McCown is Easterby's choice and, as a candidate with no previous experience, would likely be open to having Pep and Lovie as his coordinators.

The fact that there has not been an announcement today is likely evidence that the decision is still up in the air.

It's been 60 years since a top down management scheme has been used in the NFL. I think it would be entertaining as h*ll to see this out-of-the-box model used again with the modern NFL. I'm hoping Cal supports the hiring of McCown.

If Easterby truly has a hardon for McCown (I guess he likes his green M&M’s….does Easterby know this is only a myth?) then Caserio should concede and state that if McCown falls flat on his face, then Easterby and McCown can exit the Texans facility together. That might be a nice litmus test for Easterby’s conviction.

Why would anyone make a suicide clause in their employment when they have a rube like Cal to make them rich?

I was going to chime in but you and Earl covered it.
Well said gentlemen

GET'S a head coaching job in Miami (guess it wasn't about race then, since he was hired over whites),

Hadn’t seen you in a while. Wish circumstances were different, but it is what it is.

Loses his job and then plays the RACE CARD against all 32 teams??????

The important thing to remember, I think, this isn’t directly about racism. It’s about the Rooney Rule, which most people, of every race & ethnicity believe is foolish & doesn’t work.

like Jerah said, “We can do better.”

It would be nice if someone would sit down with Jerrah & have an honest conversation with Jerrah, not blaming him, not accusing him, but just exploring why his coaches are who they are, who they have been, why their careers went the way they did/did not.

Not just head coaches, but coordinators, assistants, position coaches.

Same thing with Kubiak. Ask him about Kyle Shanahan, Matt LeFlure, Robert Saleh, Vance Joseph, & I’m sure there’s someone else I’m missing

Apparently for some folks it is.

I genuinely don't give a damn. I want the best candidate possible. I want a super bowl and I don't care if it takes a transgender unicorn half Moroccan goat man coach with a tail to get us there.

Actually that coach most likely gives us our best chance.

The “Like” options need a Facepalm emoji as a choice.

If the Texans are interested in Brian Callahan as I hope they are, it's possible that he has put all interviews on hold until after the Superbowl. He's had only one interview with Denver two days prior to the Bengal's first playoff game with the Titans. In this article about his interview, he emphatically states that interviews are secondary to the team & preparations for the playoffs. He stated that interviews come on his personal time & I suspect he's living in the clubhouse watching game film & preparing for the next game. After the SB, you can bet his name is going to be everywhere, especially if the Bengals can manage to defeat the Rams. So, it's very possible that the Texans are waiting until after the SB to interview him. But, that's just my opinion. https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/33100706/focus-100-playoff-game-not-interview-denver-broncos
