Thanks for your support!

Welcome to Houston Jack Easterby

It's the big picture optics of it all. That's what this braintrust seems unable to comprehend.

So keep on being arrogant and out-of-touch with your fan base. You know, the same fan base that has made this franchise one of the most valuable in pro sports in just two decades.

They treat the average fan like fools, and then wonder why nobody is drinking the tainted Kool-Aid.

Good luck with those discounted PSL sales.

"realize it's probably not as bad as everybody makes it out to be."

PROBABLY
<-----LMAO!!!!!!! :spit:

So football orgs should just start doing what the fanbase wants them to do?

I can get on board with this.

Cut Derrick and start bringing in atleast 1 preferably 2 premium FA's each yr and spend money getting the best scouts possible. I dont vare if this costs the org an extra 10 mil a yr in the scouting dept. Can you get on board with this? It wont count against the cap.

No disrespect. But the point? A random fan thinks Easterby has done nothing wrong while ignoring that some people might dislike him for his role as BOB's wingman on some of those terrible trades and contracts?

He has done nohing wrong, except unfortunately being put in a position he shouldn't have been put in by Cal/BOB. (Interim GM)

No reason to hate on him anymore since that's not what he's doing these days. I think some fans dont like Easterby because they blame him for reporting back to Cal about what Derrick/Hopkins were up too, in addition to all of the crap the FO personnel was doing under Rootes/Palcic's rule. In other words he was responsible for burning the boardroom down because he did what Cal hired him to do.

Oh well, some have to have a villain. Easterby's that guy. He's well paid to be the villain and I'm sure it's no sweat off of his back. These are uncomfortable truths for some around these parts.

Based on this…..wouldn’t that make Cal, OB, and Easterby fully aware of what Watson was doing in his spare time before they gave him that new contract? I don’t think Easterby would’ve been behind recommending the new contract, which sort of leaves OB as the one who must’ve pushed for the new contract and got both Janice/Cal on his side.

Exactly lol and the league were to find out. They might just make the sell the team.

No. They knew he was being a dog, bit not the extent of his depravity

There had to be a bit more knowledge as to the level of his playing around to justify throwing Hopkins out of Houston for a kick in the nads and getting Mama Watson involved to try and get him back on the right path. They must’ve suspected Hopkins as to having a lot of influence over him.

They really didn’t want to get rid of Hopkins. Hop actually in the beginning told Watson he needs to slow down in his rookie year.
The issue was O’Brien temper and his macho attitude. He wasn’t about to let anybody talk to him in the manner that Hopkins did. Just like they had to separate him and Brock. Both players were traded. O’Brien also won the battle between him and RS. Players started saying he wasn’t approachable and they voiced their griefs to the pastor.

Optimistic it’s/was a bunch of back stabbing going on with this organization.

On multiple occasions, you have posted this version of the events leading to the Hopkins trade. Unfortunately, the more improbable mama Watson version is believed more frequently. I guess two things can be true. Hopkins arguing with O'Brien and Watson's mother confiding in Janice McNair and/or Easterby. However, in this case, the simplest explanation (BOB's anger and grudges) are probably the reasons for the trade and the mama Watson angle was leveraged to get the McNairs approval.

IMHO. As much as some fans would love to absolve Easterby of the mistakes of the BOB era and make him out to be some white knight riding into NRG. You cannot separate Easterby from the decisions made when he and O'Brien were together. For example, read the transcript and video from the press conference announcing Watson's contract. Easterby is right there proudly smiling and even taking questions from reporters. During the BOB era, he was like a friend who encourage and support your worst instincts and then abandon you when things go wrong.

Easterby was fully involved in the contract negotiations. BOB gave him credit for his involvement, and I wouldn't be surprised that he is the one who gave Watson that NTC. Which always leads to the question. Why the hell was Easterby negotiating contracts? He had no experience negotiating contracts and the McNairs were foolish to give him that power. That's why they ended up with the Murray, Cunningham, Cobb and even Tunsil contracts. Tunsil negotiated his own contract and still got an above market deal.

Bill O'Brien's press conference remarks:
"I want to obviously thank the McNairs, Cal and Janice McNair are here tonight, their support of what we're trying to do here with Deshaun has just been awesome. It's just been tremendous support and we've only started this journey really. I also want to thank Jack Easterby. He's standing here too. Jack Easterby did a tremendous job. Along with Deshaun's representative, David Mulugheta, who was a tremendous representative of Deshaun. Jack and David worked together a lot on this contract and were able to come to an agreement this morning. And so we're thrilled, obviously we're thrilled. With that, I'll open it up to questions."

I wouldn’t want to absolve anyone from the FO for the Watson contract, but you’re correct in that Easterby was playing along until he wasn’t. I think Caserio is fully cognizant as to how the Watson situation/contract and Tunsil’s contract have hurt this organization. If Easterby had his hand in the mess….then I’d speculate that Caserio will be watching him closely, while reminding him as to who the GM is within the Texans organization.

I think Easterby reported his findings back to Cal. Cal was put between a rock and a hard place. So he did what the McNair's always do, he chose money over doing the right thing.

BTW, After these finding is when the 2 mamma's got on the phone and I'm sure Mamma Watson told Mamma McNair that my boy is a good boy and if you will just get that evil Hopkins boy off the team my boy will staighten up and start living the holy life, after all last summer he was baptized in the River Jordan and went to the Holy Land.

LMAO, what a phony.

Exactly how has the Tunsil contract hurt this org at this point?

Yep, like I said Cal screwed up by giving Easterby the interim GM title. Easterby was the guy negotiating the contracts behind the scenes. He was out of his depths. Cal knew this was Cal's mistake. Luckily if Cal/Caserio are telling the truth Easterby's got nothing to do with negotiating contracts anymore.

Bottom line is like I said at the time, Cal should've made Derrick play out the 5th yr option. That 1 decision set this franchise back 5 yrs. What I find interesting is that 2 guys (BOB/Easterby) that were unquailified for their jobs got promoted and could do this much damage in 1 yrs time. I would say it couldn't have been done if I hadn't seen this happen with my own eyes.

The cost as in assets….then the contract after the fact. Tunsil would never return to the Texans what they paid for his services. Worse yet, they may have to eat some of that contract money in order to move him in a trade.

The cost in assets weren't out of line for an all pro LT. I know things didn't workout. Look at the Rams model, it seems to be working out for them. Why? Because they have a better HC/Coaching staff and a better QB.

The contract hasn't kept the Texans from signing FA's.

I asked How his CONTRACT has hurt the Texans, not the trade.

This "Bob's wingman" angel is vastly overdramatized and taken out of context.

All those contracts and trades are on Teapot (OB).

The statement that OB "flew those idea's by" Easterby and other individuals looking for confirmation doesn't mean Jack played a part in the decision.

Teapot flying contractual ideas or trade specifics by Jack is like flying computer programing code by the dog catcher - What the bleep does he know about computer programing?

Where they screwed up was the Brian Gaine debacle and the firing of Chris Olsen who was one of the best cap managers in the league and that decision was driven by Teapot because of disagreements on several player acquisitions that flat out weren't possible or prudent in terms of cap management. Teapot treated the cap like this was Madden not a complex real world set of rules that have real consequences.

What cracks me up is that we have a local radio station that makes an entire 4 hour show out of Jack Easterby twice a week, going so far as to let some local yahoo get on the air and scream and yell about how bad Jack is .... yet the dude is nothing more than a regular fan with absolutely no connections to the team. And you guys buy it as gospel.
For as much as those radio clowns berate this franchise & its ownership - You guys really believe they have some actual sauces? .... Give me a break. Those dudes have been cut off for the duration.

I guess everyone needs a villain to blame all their problems on .... Fire Jack! Cept that doesn't solve any of this team's problems.

What Cal should’ve done was fire his GM, scouting department and coaching staff for failing to properly build a team around Watson during his draft and at minimum the two after. They struck out at every level. Watson should’ve been traded while his return was at it’s highest and a new regime should’ve been brought in with a better plan in place.

I’m really hoping Caserio see’s the importance and pace needed to make sure Mill’s is given the talent as to be properly be vetted before new contract talks come around.

You aren't ever going to be able to build a championship team around a selfish person like Derrick. The GM/HC/FO all should've been fired and Derrick traded because the toilet that is this franchise badly needed to be flushed.

Caserio has flushed to toilet and cleaned the bowl. Now he needs to put in the stuff that makes the water blue.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see how that would’ve really worked out in 2021 b/c of an injury and suspect reasons as to why he didn’t return this past season.

No, his contract didn’t prevent the Texans from signing FA but it didn’t help either. Lot of money tied up in soft one-dimensional LT.

I would like to see how he performs with a solid LG who has to arrive in year one ready to man the position.

Ultimately, Caserio would have to weigh out the offers versus keeping a guy who may not want to be here anymore.

Another objective look at things outside of the fire and pitchfork mob scene that is chasing Easterby around.

It didn’t seem that until Palcic was fired that the real hate started coming for Easterby. And we all know how adored Palcic was by the media.

Just saying that’s all.

As much as people might have liked her, she was part of the problem, not the solution when it comes to the appearance of dysfunctional culture with the team.

She didn't know when to keep her trap shut and thought everything needed to be explained / transparent.

Some things are just better handled in house .... Notice that since she's been gone, information isn't free flowing, and the media is talking about crap from a year ago because they have nothing else. Pancakes is even careful with what he says ....

There is a big difference in thinking that a guy is partying to hard, sleeping with groupies and has a massage fetish vs thinking a guy has possibly committed sexual assault. The first three while distasteful aren't illegal. I don't buy the BS story about Easterby hiring private eyes and all that. First any PI worth their salt can dig into someone without getting caught and someone as famous as Watson its even easier because he has crowds wherever he went. I also find it strange that all these hit stories came out after Palcic was fired.

Watson could QB from the pocket and been just as effective if he was ever given a pocket to work from. Watson knew there would be no chance of the Texans winning a game if he reduced his game to dink and dunk passes for no yardage. Watson knew that when he broke containment he could hurt defenses with his legs or arm if he could just buy the receivers a little more time to break coverage. I never viewed that as selfish play. I viewed it as a guy who was determined to win against some pretty severe odds. Bottom line, we never got to see how Watson would’ve performed behind a decent OL and with a real running game in tow….not to mention, better coaches.

The Texans failed from a team standpoint and Watson flunked from an off the field moral compass / common sense standpoint. Time to move on and find Watson a new team and the Texans get some picks in return.

If you want the fanbase back you have to build a true contender. This costs money and if you're not willing to spend the money it will cost you money in the long run. Times have changed for the better down on Kirby. Fans aren't going to blindly follow/spend their money on the Texans org. This is a good thing, they're being forced to changed.

Not really. Watson was squeaky clean before coming to Houston. His mom probably thought he was going to church every week & Bible study twice a week.

then she hears her baby boy is in strip clubs on the regular, has a relationship with a porn star & spending thousands on alcohol & what not… that’s enough for mama bear to overreact

He must be a really good soft 1 dimensional LT since he's a 2 time probowler.

Houston Texans Quarterback Deshaun Watson meets with the media after signing his contract extension with the team.

Ok lets say he did negotiate the contract and yes he would have no business doing so but at the same time is that really his fault? You yourself said that the McNair's had to have signed off on it so ultimately the blame lies with them. Say your boss comes to you and says we want you run this new department and you tell them you don't know anything about that department. They tell you its fine just do your best. Then it all goes to hell in a hand basket, who's more to blame you for being in over your head or your boss for setting you up for failure?

Honestly though as bad as the contract looks now with everything that has happened that is just hindsight. At the time his contract was right on the market and 90% of the fan base, including most on this board, was saying to sign him to a mega deal and lock up the QB position for the future. Even the NTC I don't agree with it but honestly lets say that was the reason a deal wasn't done and Watson played his 5th year and then signed somewhere else. What would the fan reaction be? Something like "Why the **** didn't the ******* give him his ***** no trade clause! Now we get ******* nothing because of those ***********************************!"

So yeah it turned into a complete no win scenario.

No one was "Fully Aware" of what he was doing, they really had no clue that he was doing potentially illegal crap.

The consensus was that Watson was screwing a bunch of hoes he found on social media and there's nothing illegal about that .... It's shortly after the contract extension is inked that we have the first complaints from the women about potential wrong doing. I believe that was late September 2020 when the first complaint was made to Harris County Sheriffs Dept. Something like 12 days after the contract extension.

Obviously we view Derrick differently. Bottom line for me is 2 things.

1. QB's with Derrick's style of play dont win championships
2. Derrick's selfish lifestyle bled over to his on field play.

Was Watson playing for the Chiefs, Patriots, or Texans? My complete observation was around the Texans teams he played for.

There should be a word of caution in this post.

Know who you're giving life changing money too before signing them to a mega deal.

I’m always a bit cynical when folks are ready to come out of the woodwork with lawsuits when the numbers in a new contract are made public or someone wins the lottery. Just funny how the timing is so impeccable.

The Tunsil contract was terrible. The highest paid lineman had a contract of 18 million a year. Instead of paying 18.5 or 19, the Texans blow it out of the water with a 22 million per year average. Tunsil knew he had the Texans over a barrel due to all the compensation that was given to trade for him . There never should have been a trade unless an extension was worked out as a part of it.

Not claiming its right, but I suspect DW was doing what alot of other athletes do as well. Can you imagine the riots if the Texans didn't extend Watson, citing "questionable character issues."? He doesn't get the extension, thus no lawsuits. Texans fans already hate Easterby, I'd fear for his life if this happened.

I’m sure everyone felt the same as you. Even when first reports that there were five law suits with another on the way.

But now we’re around 30 when you count the ones who have come public that they are still thinking about it.

I don’t remember one situation with these numbers were the accuser was totally innocent.

Tunsil knew he had the Texans over a barrel due to all the compensation that was given to trade for him . There never should have been a trade unless an extension was worked out as a part of it.

Tell me how that contract is currently hurting the Texans?

At this point anyone talking about Easterby is just looking for a reason

Wish I could like this post 10 times over. I’ve Been screaming this very thing about Houston sports radio and the media regarding this whole Jack Easterby thing since the SI article dropped. It was just too convenient the way it all rolled out against that dude after Palcic got fired.

Sorry, but you’re just not going to convince me that fans care that much about a media relations person getting fired….or a guy in Jack Easterby’s position either… but for some “strange” reason, a lot of hoopla was made about this chick getting the axe and him too. and not just locally…if I recall, her getting fired made national news with Florio and she went on someone’s show popping off about the Texans too….Then the SI article dropped on Easterby. All of it To me just screamed hit piece/spin job… that was primarily being orchestrated by her and her cronies in the media…both locally and nationally.

I’m always a bit cynical when folks are ready to come out of the woodwork with lawsuits when the numbers in a new contract are made public or someone wins the lottery. Just funny how the timing is so impeccable.

Not disagreeing with you but lots of others got big contracts, if not quite as big for most of them, and they didn't suddenly get hit with 20+ lawsuits all saying the same thing.

You must be talking about Ole Larry from Stafford. Lol yeah he’s a darn clown. He’s a big time Watson fan who also believes the Texans set him up.

'll never believe that was circumstantial. Someone was looking for a payday
Humans lie (male & female). Most people try to twist things to their own advantage. There are always two sides to a story & from the outside looking in we rarely get the whole truth from either side.

With this many accusers it seems that something fishy was going on with Watson but on the other hand most of them want money not justice.

One thing that puzzles me is Watson supposedly flew one of the therapists from Atlanta to Houston. This seems odd to me. Watson lives in the 4th biggest city in America & he has to import somebody to get a massage? Unless she is some kind of world class therapist that is well known shouldn't this have set off all kind of alarm bells for her? Is it that common for rich folks to spend thousands of dollars flying people in & putting them up in hotels just for a innocent rub down?

Hell even Kraft went to a massage parlor instead of flying somebody into Boston from Miami.

Honestly I think what we are seeing is a combination of wrong doing by Watson (at least 10 women have filed criminal charges) & some women and a lawyer jumping on the money train.
