Week 12 vs. Jets

OptimisticTexan

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
One of these two teams gets promoted out of the bottom feeders club next week.
Texans and Jets are jousting to see who wants the #2 pick more. Hard to say who may have more drive in that regards. Texans got an expected win over the Jags and very unexpected win over the Titans on their home turf…..seen enough, now lets get that laser focus back on the #2 pick in the draft.

Damm those Lions…..they got a death grip on the 1st pick and it looks like they are doing everything in their power to ensure they don’t loose that grip.

Is Mike Lindell officiating?

If not, someone open their bathroom medicine cabinet and tell him its go time!
Maybe Lindell will use one of those Geeza sheet towels to throw on one of the many penalties that I'm sure will happen in this game.

BTW, I noticed that this thread isn't showing up when I click Texans Talk.

Jets defense is a couple hundred more for a reason and it's a home game, battle of kickers 9-6 Jets.

ps. do we really want to win this game, could mean difference between 1a and 1b in the 2022 draft?

wouldn't know, Texans have selected #1 overall 2002, 2006, 2014 none of which proved worthy, but now we have Caserio so surely that will change :toropalm:
2002 could’ve had hall of famer Julius Peppers had team decided not to draft a QB for an expansion team (now everyone knows that’s a recipe for disaster).

2006 should have been a trade down. Mario best of the top pick options but more bad luck with lack of franchise altering talent at that top pick option. Still Texans best overall draft haul the 2006 class.

2014 I believe it was rumored Texans turned down trade offer from Bills. At any rate it sure would’ve been nice to get future hall of famer Aaron Donald AND extra picks on a trade down.

hey don’t loose that grip.
I dunno are you sure we were expected to beat the Jags ?
Actually I don't want the top pick, not this year, but I very much want the 2 or 3 so I am torn between winning & losing this game !

Not that anybody noticed but is somewhat Texans related, Richard Smith is LB coach for the Raiders. He was Chargers LB coach 2017-2020. Texans DC 2006-2008 when Houston drafted Mario Williams.

Robert Saleh, Jets rookie HC was also with Texans during that period. Defensive intern 2005, defense quality control coach 2006-2008. Then assistant LB coach post Smith 2009-2010.

Find it interesting how interrelated the NFL is and despite Houston Texan franchise struggles, just how many have passed through Kirby’s pearly gates.

Dishnetwork hasn't aired ch 11 for several weeks now. Contract squabble.

I don't get Houston stations over the air here in the boondocks.

So the boss and I enjoy our Sundays going out to eat :chef:and then I sleep in the car while she shops at Hobby Lobby.:money:

She deserves it. Putting up with me for 61 years and counting.

I don’t think anybody’s catching the Lions so #1 is probably off the table anyway.
I agree because I also think the Lions have the top spot locked up but I'm most concerned about failing to land among the top 3 picks.
So the reasons I'm concerned: two other 2-loss teams besides us and then there's two 3-loss teams including the Seahawks who meet later this year.

I don’t agree with you on this one. First there is no guarantee on draft picks. Losing destroys culture. We’ve drafted good players before, brought them into the wrong culture and what do we have to show for it. This crap has to change and the turnaround needs to get grounded this year. If we are going to lose at least play hard to win and start finding those players that got the right attitude. In this regard I want to see a little, but smarter, Lonnie Johnson attitude on both sides of the ball. Losing just destroys everything that matters.

I don't root for them to lose. Except for maybe the last game of the season for draft position purposes. Good thing is I don't have to root for them to lose because they are bad enough to lose whether I'm rooting for them to win or not. BTW, I expect them to win on Sunday.

Impartial as I can possibly be, both new head coaching hires, advantage former Texan assistant Robert Saleh.

I’d like to be pretty consistent here. Much talent has passed through this gateway into the NFL. Would like to capture some of that, once in awhile when it really matters. And nothing, besides ownership circumvents that more than your head coach.

So in a nutshell the Jets got it right for once and well….. Texans are like a leaky faucet.

As early as it is, can you expound on why you think the Jets got it right? Saleh hasn't shown anything yet as far as I can tell and he hasn't been subjected to the handicaps that Culley has been exposed to. I think they are both even at this point.

Saleh is up and comer, many teams showed interest and media favorite for most open positions. Not my choice but even most thought good chance to get Chargers open gig (no way over Staley) but Texans fired O'Brian and created open vacuum before any other opening. If Cal had half a pulse, you would think a former Texans assistant with this much upside would be intriguing hire? No or DC for the #1 ranked defense, Staley, who was their first interview would be more forward thinking than Culley, who has never even held a coordinator position, despite some 30 years in the NFL. Complete brain fart Cal, smacks of Easterby who should be fired on the spot, but now blood is on Caserio who enabled situation because he was enabled by Jack, quid pro quo.

Anyway, since you asked, does coaching make a difference? Both huge turnaround situations, but Jets have been long term pasties without any recent success like Texans. Should be a more compelling game than national media covers but for those diehard fans of Texans and Jets a barometer of future sucess, so I'm going with Saleh as reason for optimism going forward.

I think it was interesting how Culley wasn't even a candidate here until Caserio was hired.

All the rest is BS.

I don't know why Caserio picked Culley, but he did.

Addendum: QB off board both teams. Jets roll with Wilson #2 pick overall in 2021 and Texans Mills #67 pick overall. Jets have two picks in the top 10 2022 draft.

I could see them taking Kayvon Thibodaux if Detroit goes another direction and CB Stingley with other. Looked hard at Hutchinson, Michigan DE but he plays in such a deep and loaded front, not sure he sticks out enough for me to be the Texans pick. So, we'll see if Casero can trade back and acquire draft capital? But and this is a huge BUTT he needs to be kept in check by his head coach and thats not Culley. There needs to be a partnership that one is not greater than the other and coaches' input = GM far as agreement on prospect, scheme fit and need. Philosophy must algin.

Do you think the McNair's would ever hire Saleh? I dont.

Culley was hired to try to appease Derrick. Staley or any other non minority HC was never a serious candidate.
