Texans random thought of the day

welsh texan

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
A pick at the arse end of the draft put 6 rings on Caserio’s fingers and $30 million in his pocket.

BTW, when does the draft become irrelevant? Pick # 135? #87? I’m sure the players picked after that magic spot would like to know that they’re wasting their time.
Yeah, but you spend a 5th round pick on a slot guy you think might be a rough diamond and it’s the same as drafting a 5th round slot who may or may not work out.
When they don’t work out it’s a waste, this was a waste, more 5th rounders will fail to make an impact that you hit on.

Well, so far it seems like the staff did a decent job in this years draft. Every pick made the final roster. It's still to be determined just how well they will actually be, but for now, it looks like it was a solid draft. Mills is still a question mark. Nico looked ok before he got hurt. Brevin Jordan we haven't seen yet. Wallow has been getting playing time, and from what I have seen, hasn't looked too bad out there. Roy has been solid, and may turn out to be the best player from this draft.

Houston Texans 2021 NFL Draft Picks:
  • Round 3: No. 67 – Davis Mills, QB, Stanford
  • Round 3: No. 89 (from CLE through CAR) – Nico Collins, WR, Michigan
  • Round 5: No. 147 – Brevin Jordan, TE, Miami
  • Round 5: No. 170 (from CLE through JAX and LAR) – Garret Wallow, LB, TCU
  • Round 6: No. 195 – Roy Lopez, DT, Arizona

Right. The last pick. Which is why a good GM doesn't throw away picks on JAGs. Finding guys like Lopez that can contribute on a rookie deal is the key to buildind a winning roster. It allows cap flexibility to extend your better players and find a missing component in free agency.

5th Rd picks should be used for moving up in the draft so you stand a better chance of hitting on a higher Rd pick. ( Assuring you get your guy.)

Otherwise you roll the dice and more often than not you will miss. 5th Rd guys can strengthen your ST's though.

Roy Lopez will be fortunate to be a depth piece in 2 years.

But OK.

Well at least he will be on the depth chart rather than a 2 catches for 35 yards guy that got cut 2 years ago. Or are you saying Caserio screwed up by drafting Lopez. :(
I'm hoping Collins gets well and lives up to his talent level.

Lopez is just a good NFL depth piece.

If Lopez stays healthy and can get his reps.....I think the Texans will have found themselves a late round gem. Teams all over the NFL have enjoyed these finds. Damm.....one that comes to mind for me, that UDFA RB from Tennessee, let's see...what was his name? Oh yeah, Arian Foster. Even the Texans, the pure definition of a blind squirrel, can find a nut....uhmmm, nuts in a given draft and UDFA signing period.

I actually thought it was worse. So the team lost two 7th round picks and lost rounds via pick swap (5th to 7th).

This is closer to people complaining when the Texans took QB Alex Brink in the 7th round than it being the apocalypse.
Yep….ducker was a total bust and it took the Texans several seasons to recover from this miscalculation.

We've got to look at the big picture though.
Look at the number of UDFA, low round picks, and low key FAs that Kubiak was able to incorporate into his scheme.
He did a better job on that end than Wade did with the D, and a far better job then any Texans coaches since.

This is true. But not too many coaches with Kubiak’s track record are available these days. If this team had a Kubiak/Gibbs proven system for success that would be nice but it was one of those cases that you appreciate it more once its gone :(

Phillip Lindsay

Phillip Lindsay
Houston Texans · RB
This offseason, I predicted Lindsay would benefit statistically from his relocation to Houston. That's not what's happened through the first quarter of the season. After registering 118 carries for 502 yards and a TD in 11 games last season with the Broncos, Lindsay has struggled mightily in Houston's crowded backfield. In four games, he has gained 31 yards on 24 carries for a dismal 1.3 yards per carry. Mark Ingram leads the team with 52 attempts for 171 yards (3.3 yards per carry) and David Johnson is second in rushing yards with 67 on 16 totes (4.2 yards per carry). Lindsay's in a tough spot because there is competition for every carry within his position group. There's a thin line between having a sense of urgency and pressing, and it's even tougher to navigate when you're relying on 10 other guys to do their jobs well so you can do yours. He's had too many bad plays, and when you only average six carries per game, it's hard to dig yourself out of that hole.

Part of Caserio’s uphill battle stems from the shambles of a scouting department we have, if he can assemble a competent team of scouts it will help his job immensely.
Yep. Gaine fired a bunch of them when he was installed, and Caserio did the same. Why would anyone qualified want to join this circus?

The inherent problem is finding qualified people that are willing to join Easterby's cult, because ultimately he and Caserio are tied at the hip. Yeah, Caserio "makes the calls", but he's got Easterby caressing his earlobe while he does it. And ultimately, it's joining a franchise that has historically been dysfunctional and has never accomplished much in two decades.

Well, Caserio was OK with Lippfert who was with the Pats before 2018.
He also hired McGill, who worked as a scout for the Pats.

Yep Gibbs was a GOAT

They got very lucky with Foster and hardly used him Fosters rookie yr.

Yep, Foster was actually cut and put on practice squad… then they let Chris Brown run around throwing halfback passes until they were out of playoff contention before they went ahead and took a look at the rookie!
They signed him to the PS the next day.

Foster, whom I defended when he was signed as an UDFA, had a bit of a ball security problem (plus some bad luck) in college that led to some fumbles.
His number of touches decreased by nearly a half in his Senior season, and he had just one rushing TD compared to 12 the previous year and 22 in his first 3 years.

The other two backs combined for 10 rushing TDs during Foster's Senior season.

He was known as an introvert , a self-declared poet/philosopher, a drummer that marches on his own beat.
That doesn't rhyme very well with football.

UDFA doesn't get a lot of look in TC.

Kubiak's system is known for lengthy verbiage/nomenclature that requires time to get down and remember.

they should be arrested for impersonating an NFL team.

I agree. I'm gonna make some calls and get some warrants signed. We've got some leverage on the Honorable Judge Henry Swiss and he should accommodate. I'll put together a 3 truck strike team and organize a coordinated assault. We already have security access to all Texans's facilities but if we can't nab caserio, easterby, and Cal at the same time it won't work.

@Thorn I want you to be the point man in the Cal raid team. Scoop him up in his jammies playing video games if you can. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast. I want you to take him into custody without shots fired if possible but wear your vest. He's known to have violent tendencies.

We'll be operating on Tac 2 on your radio and scheduled for 0215 Monday morning. Drones are monitoring the sites currently and @steelbtexan who has infiltrated the organization will advise if there are any operational changes. Xray 1 and 2 will be airborne for any chase scenario and to quarterback in the event of a fire fight. They have final call on truck 4 if needed as reserve.

Remember your training. Godspeed gentleman.

So that’s a pretty long winded way of saying Foster wasn’t as “tough smart and dependable” as Chris Brown. Until late in the season when he finally got an opportunity and everyone could immediately see he was way better than any other back the team had been trotting out that season.

Well, let's not forget that his first game was pedestrial, 13-34 in a lopsided win.

Attendance looks really poor, I know the stadium tends to fill up a little after kick off but the commentators just made note of it.

Quite concerning if they can’t fill the stadium all of a sudden, having been sold out for almost 20 years.

Texans have the Colts, Cardinals, and Rams coming up. Mills will more than likely be the QB taking these snaps. The final games….the 49’ers would represent the toughest defensive test. Maybe the Texans could trade Taylor for the right pick and let Mills and Driscoll finish the season. I hate the idea of doing this to Taylor but the pick could be pretty decent.

Good thing Mills was able to find him so quick.
I'm telling you it was a set up.
The Patriots "decided" to leave him open; one of the many plays in which they did that.
Either that or the Pats we're a faked no. 5 defense.
They looked much closer to the Texans of last year than the Pats D of the previous 4 games.
