Texans random thought of the day

Having such an old, capped out roster getting their asses handed to them like this is rough. They really haven't started with a true rebuild and I don't trust the people in charge.

They will have plenty of cap room in a couple of yrs. Their window to start being able to compete with the Bills is 3 yrs.

Hate that you dont trust them (Should you?) because this is Caserio's rebuild.

I can't believe our coach would say that. & if he did can't imagine Caserio would move on it.
But if Doc's information about dolphins wanting Watson in the next couple of weeks is on target perhaps Nick is using that possibility of Denver to leverage up Stephen Ross? We get Lock Kareem gets his buddy..

That would be a travesty, the Texans need assets and not give any away. This is where Caserio should tell the coach, you knew what you had and where we were going. Plus, I'm not sure those 2 players are worth it. Green Bay could fleece the Texans and stroke Aaron Rodgers' ego by trading Jordan Love. Drew Lock is a former 1st but worth no more than a 5th. If they have spoken to those teams about those players then I'm jumping off the Caserio train. I'd rather them force Derrick to play vs trade for another QB.

Derrick?

The problem in my opinion is that they have 5 offensive tackles and zero offensive guards; and they have two of the tackles playing guard. The Howard move is a failure. They should move him back to RT. Cannon is not very good at guard but he has played the position. They need to activate Lane Taylor. Heck needs to be the swing tackle.

And they need to search and sign off of practice squads, pure, young, promising offensive guards. It's not ideal to be doing this after the season has started, but results can't be much worse than today against the Bills. Cannon and Layne are expendable if we find replacements.

I'm sticking with Howard and seeing if he can play LG

I'm giving McCray a shot at RG and when Taylor comes back if Howard is still playing like crap I'm putting Taylor àt LG. Hopefully McCray will upgrade RG. Can't be much worse than Scharping. Although Howard did his best to prove me wrong yesterday.

Look at our division:

Titans 2-2
Texans 1-3
Colts 1-3
Jaguars 0-4.

So do you give up on the season way before it actually gets started? Or do you wait until after week 8 when your divisional foes walks away from you?

Screw the shit division. How many of those things did OB win and then when the playoffs rolled around we saw that they had no business being there?

I don’t give a rat’s ass if the division is shit and you have a chance to win it with 6-8 wins or whatever. Wake me up when they’re a real SB contender.

Give up on the season because we’re still in it in a crapola division? Come on man, they gave up on the season before it started with the thousand special teams players they signed to fill the roster and went with a project QB who’s not close to being ready to be the first off the bench.

Oh, and they haven’t been all that great on special teams either, BTW.

I wonder what Heck would look like at RG. Make Scharping the swing.

In terms of who is currently on the roster if they are going to shuffle the OL I would go with:

Cannon to RG. Maybe Taylor on PS if he is finally healthy and practicing. Really Taylor would be ideal ever since he signed here but hasn’t been healthy. Both have been successful at RG in the past unlike anybody else on the roster.

Heck to RT. Young player that showed promise this offseason. Lets reward him with quality reps and see what we have.

Allow Howard this entire season to see what we have at LG for him. Already committed to this position for him so lets see it through. RT he’s average at best which isn’t good enough for a 1st round pick. Have to make a decision on his 5th year option.

Yep,

No way I sign Howard to the 5th yr option as it stands right now.

that was the poorest showing I've ever seen.
Had to be bottom 5 in franchise history. There were the Dave Ragone games. And the Hoyer led 0-30 playoff game skunk at home. If you paid $200+ for a ticket to that game, you might say that was the poorest showing.

And of course there's the playoff loss at Arrowhead after leading 24-0.

There's competition.

So the coaches should tell these players right now, hey we’re not good. Therefore guys we’re throwing in the towel. Yes it’s early and we’re playing in a very week division but we are calling this season a wash.

Texans pre-season games were better with the following OL:

LT- Tunsil
LG- Howard
OC- Britt
RG- Scharping
RT- Heck

Cannon was out the entire pre-season and he got back for the first game and the team inserted him back as starter. Me, I'd go with the lineup that got all the reps and see how it works out.

How many snaps did Heck get in the preseason? Cannon has taken 3.5 full games. Against teams trying to win which wasn't the case in the preseason.

I'm not saying that is not a good idea. Just the reasoning about "better" in the preseason & "all the reps" aren't good reasons.

Cannon ain't getting it done. Should be reason enough.

Give me 51-7 by a mile.

A 6'8" guy playing guard. I'd like to see it, for the humor if nothing else.

Agreed, I dont think some posters understand the OL positions or the body types/skillsets it takes to play those positions. The OT position is quite different from the interior OL positions. I'm hoping this is why Howard/Scharping are struggling and that they can improve as the season moves forward.

~30 players are free agents after this season with most playing now for contracts elsewhere; if they don't get this is rebuilding season with them fighting for a continued career in the NFL they are not only average players but less than avg thinkers.

You think the players don't know it?? Yeah, they'll say otherwise if a mic is put in their face simply because of pride, but they know the rag tag team that's been assembled there. The players are going to play because most are on 1 year deals and they're trying to get paid by someone next year. They know this season ain't going anywhere.

On an unrelated note, Texans are 9 point dogs, at home, to a 1-3 team with their own rookie QB. Ouch!!

That’s because of Bill Belichick being a better coach and that’s it. Also remember they had us losing to a rookie head coach and his rookie quarterback. The Texans smashed the bleep out of them

The Pats are more talented and have the best rookie QB in this class in addition to having the GOAT HC. IMHO

Pats cover, only chance the Texans have is a Pats let down after the Brady Bowl.

I’ve watched every last one of there games and I disagree. They are not more talented. They do not have a big time name on that roster. Do they have some potential, most definitely, mainly with M. Jones.

I think a big x factor is the health of the Pats RBs. Damien Harris left in the first half injured and the Pats abandoned the run game. James White is also out for the season. If the Pats have to lean on the rookie QB to pass and have long perfect drives there is an opportunity for turnovers.

McCaffrey was 60% of the Panthers offense. He got hurt early & the Panthers offense exploded.

Not exacty. They turned the ball over on downs on the 14 play drive Mccaffrey got injured on. Then stalled out 2nd quarter with 3 and outs. Then the defense got tired when they couldn’t get off the field second half… Which seems to be the theme without Tyrod.
