More turnovers than the 5 we actually gave up!?

I was kind of expecting the rookie to look awful today, and he certainly did, but I was really disappointed in this D, the missed tackles were abysmal.
I was disappointed with the D. They punched the ball out a couple of times couldn't get it. The fumbled a snap, couldn't get it. & they didn't start punching at the ball until the 4th qtr.

Shockingly, my little indoor antenna picked up CBS here in Beaumont so I will be watching the game. Hopefully, the rat hoard (or is it a flock of rats?) in the shared attic doesn't move over my apartment and block reception.
Oopsy.
Is your TV still alive? :hides: :brando:

Can’t help but think this philosophy of wanting to get takeaways requires you to get the fundamentals right first.

Can’t have runners in space breaking several tackles before being brought down.

He completed 0 TDs 4 INTs, 52% of his passes 4.1 ypa & a 23.4 passer rating. I bet $50 donation to TT he will better four of those stats next week.
LMAO, that's awfully low hanging fruit...if he puts up worse stats than today he needs to either be redshirt for 2 years or waived now.

I never said that. I only said he wasn't ready to be #2 on the depth chart.

But this game doesn't really tell us anything about Davis Mills. Not only is his offense out matched by that defense, but the weather didn't do him any favors.

I'm interested to see how he does against the Pats & Colts.
Remember how I said when scouting QBs, I also like to see how they perform in bad weather?

Pass pro I think they're decent. Buffalo has studs outside & inside and they blitz a lot with fast LBs. I don't think we'll run into that buzzsaw again.

As far as the run game goes, I don't know. Gotta find a way to piss these guys off enough that they want to hit somebody.
Both Howard and Sharping are offensive tackles playing guard. I'm not at all supportive of "versatility" and playing out of postion.

Turns out Pancakes was wrong…
Mills didn’t throw 2 picks, he threw 4!
The Jets Zack Wilson has also struggled a lot so far in his rookie season, yet he managed to play a pretty good game against a solid Titans defense and the Jets won their first game. Point being, Zack was having a rough start and he even had a crap game similar to the one Davis had today and yet he showed signs in todays game of why he was drafted second in this years draft.
New York Jets: Zach Wilson sparks first win over Titans in OT (usatoday.com)

Davis Mills was not drafted so high and his expectations are not as high as Zacks, so with that in mind we should give him a little more slack.

Also, Justin Fields rebounded from a bad performance as the team and coaches adjusted from last weeks dabacle. Justin Fields looks like a brand-new QB in Bears' win over Lions (msn.com)

The Jags Trevor Lawrence has had his struggles but he has also showed signs of the Qb he is expected to become.

There is no doubt that Davis had an awful game but I am sure the offense as a whole owns this debacle. I did not watch the game so maybe I am wrong and ALL the blame is on Davis Mills but I doubt it. Even if he is guilty I still will not write him off based on his performance today. This game most likely is not a career ender. It could be if the struggles continue without addressing a competent back up to step up if needed.

We know our team is not very good but they held their own against some pretty good teams the previous two weeks. Those tough losses caught up to them. I know we aren't anywhere near as good as the Bills but we are better than todays score would indicate we are. There will be a lot of losses but hopefully none of those losses will be as bad as todays game was. It is hard to envision more ineptitude as bad as what you all saw today.

Slow feet, slow reads, slow brain, slow pass, slow run. Other than 6'4" he's everything you don't want in an NFL QB. Has no business in the league. Get the guy outta town and pick up somebody who can play a little.

Trubisky has a higher ceiling and better skillet than Davis Mills. Could've signed him and Tyrod and let them battle it out

Trubisky signed a 1 year 2.5 million contract to play on the Bills this season. I agree he would have been an ideal pickup this offseason but I suspect he went to the Bills to sit behind Allen and be coached by Daboll and former Miami QB Ken Dorsey.

Kind of like Jameis took the year to be coached by Payton/learn from Brees.

Nagy messed him up so much he needs a year or so of QB rehab.

Anyone who actually saw Trubisky play wouldn't want to see that dude here. This is overreaction Monday on steroids.
The same was said of Sam Darnold. If you're in tear down/rebuild mode, with limited draft capital, you take chances on young flameouts. Think about Trubisky he had 1 year starting and was drafted 2nd. He's 26 yrs old maybe. Mills played 1 yr , was avg at best, no special traits.

Trubisky was overdrafted & had no business going 2nd overall. Plus he's had 3-4 years worth of starts in the NFL and an awesome defense to help him during that entire time & He demonstrated no growth. We know what he is at this point. Darnold at least demonstrated a little growth in NY but it was stymied by 0 support in NY. No defense, no weapons no nothing. he looks only marginally better in Carolina, but even admitting that, he was brought back to earth against dallas yesterday.

Mills' situation is closer to Darnold's than it is to Trubisky's.

It appears by the snap counts that Ingram plays when the Texans are ahead or tied moving the ball with regularity.

David Johnson is designated “catch up “ back playing when they are in long yardage passing down mode.

Lindsay is designated “get no yards” back to stall out a drive in the event either of the above backs need a breather.

Ingram needs to play more than 10 snaps.

We learned

1. The Bills are really good on defense. Really good offense too and their QB is special.
2. Texans are- none of the above.
3. Mills looked like a rookie QB making his 1st real start in the rain in Buffalo.

Their defense isn't that good. They've played Miami, Pittsburgh, Houston, and Washington which are 4 of the worse offensive teams in the NFL. I do think they have a really good football team.

I like the pass rushers they drafted this yr.

Even though they were picking late in the draft they attacked the main problem on defense with multiple picks.

Well of course their not shutout-teams-2-weeks-in-a-row good..that would make the 85' bears. But i do think they're probably the 2nd at worst 3rd defense in the league. We'll find out next sunday night when they face Mahomes and the Chiefs.

They added players vs subtracting them also. They're going to be there in the end because their qb is special. You're not going to win anything without that dude

Ideally you build for balance in all three facets of the game, offense, defense and special teams. Generally free agency is attempt to be very specific in addressing your weakest links. Drafts should elevate your core talent level with bpa. Hard to get all those elements to line up, but you really need continuity within entire organization to be on the same page.

With that said, have no idea given age of staff, high turnover rate of assets (players) how Texans will right this ship?
