Texans random thought of the day

You can get into Texans game for same price as two dozen Shipley donuts
bought a ticket shortly after reading this, opted for club level as I'm a dad now and I like comfort and less lines. price was nice. 🍒 not much of a line to get in either... waited behind three or four ppl to scan my ticket, really not bad.

seats always looked somewhere from 50-60% full.

can still smoke/vape in NRG areas (as opposed to the juice box).

couldn't make the leap to get cracklin and queso as I usually walk a mile and a half before I uber home, and greasy sweat isn't an ideal effect this early in the season. ( tacos and guac were fine.)

special teams looked A+++ (what about that kick that laser beamed back through the end zone!)

Jags got slapped with penalties. maybe those o-line timing drills are working for us.

Well, this certainly beats the goofy look OB gave when he announced, "this loss is on me" so I should be the one who takes it up the arse.....dammit Watson!!!! Bill said, "he should take it up the arse" so get your damm pants off your knees and wipe that silly arse grin off your face....hail, you didn't even dress today.

Kudos to the coaching staff getting him into the game plan so quickly. That TE pick TD was just nasty and it probably went back to DC and Danny’s past connections? or OB’s -TK’s Patriot plays that never got called before?
I'm sure I've seen the Texans run that pick play before, but WD40 was too busy looking for D-Hop to throw it to the slot, or QT couldn't run the right route.

The Texans have several players with ties to the Browns who may be playing with a chip on their shoulder in this week’s game. Pharaoh Brown and Tyrod Taylor at the top of the list. Also LB Kirksey, S Murray, CBs Mitchell/Thomas, DT Taylor on IR unfortunately. OL coach Campen… Texans will be playing hard and will still play with that chip on their shoulder for another week. I’d love to see an upset!

The Texans were in nickel the majority of the game against the Jags. If KPL makes it back from injury this week i’d expect them to have 3 LBs on field more often against Cleveland’s ball control offense. Losing Taylor hurts, he had shown to be a decent NT in his short time as a Texan. But it does give Roy Lopez the opportunity to outplay his draft status and secure the starting NT job the rest of the season. He’s the only DT on the roster currently I see filling that NT role in Lovie’s defense. The other DTs (Collins, Blacklock and Demarcus Walker) are more of the 3 technique variety.

Although I do see Snacks Harrison is still available. There has to be something wrong with him though to not be on a team… pro bowl NTs are usually taken this time of year.

Edit: Looks like 7 kids with three of them 18 months old or younger is the reason Snacks hasn’t had time to stay in football shape. Sounds like he’s effectively retired.

Texans move up in the rankings!
Rank

Houston Texans

Houston Texans
1-0
Previous rank: No. 32

The Texans were viewed, almost universally, as the worst team in football on Sunday morning. They certainly didn't play like that in an impressive 37-21 win over a Jaguars team that looked overmatched and unprepared by comparison. Houston was led by Tyrod Taylor, who finished with 331 total yards, two touchdowns and zero turnovers. It was a great start to the season and a welcome change of conversation after a summer of Deshaun Watson uneasiness. Said Taylor of the performance: "It means everything to me and I know it means a lot to the guys in the locker room."
We're #29!!! Still, not bowl eligible. But, it's a start.

Did anyone see Garrett and Clowney meet at the QB simultaneously in the 4th quarter? Wasn't sure if Mahomes was getting up from that one.

The Browns shutdown the Chiefs rushing game. Taylor will have to work his short game magic again, because I can't see the Texans doing much on the ground or being able to protect long enough to go deep.

We’ll see if Amendola gets more playing time with another week in the system. Also, Anthony Miller coming back for another slot threat… who will lose snaps? I’d assume the 2-3 TE sets. I did like how the team incorporated multiple TE and RB grouping personnel at the same time. Wildcat with Ingram and Lindsay split out wide. 3 TE sets.

Interested to see what wrinkles will be added to the game plan this week. Hope it measures up to what we saw in week one!

I normally don’t care that Clowney is playing against us. But with Myles Garrett on his side... glad my name ain’t Tyrod Taylor

The team has added another DB to the practice squad. This time it’s former Eagles Safety/nickel back Grayland Arnold. This to go with Cre’von Leblanc last week and Jimmy Moreland on the active roster. The team is not settling for the current secondary grouping post Roby trade and are searching around to find a diamond in the rough.

Grayland Arnold and Jimmy Moreland in particular have reputations as instinctive ballhawks. Arnold had 6 ints with Baylor in 2019. Moreland 6 “pick sixes” his college career.

Running the 12 personnel wil help with this. I think Tunsil has a big game. The run game may not be as good this week. But as long as Ingram can convert 3rd and short at a reasonable percentage the Texans will be fine, as long as TT doesn't turn the ball over.

I'm really worried about how the secondary holds up, because I think the defense will have to play 8 in the box to stop the Browns run game. The Browns OL is really good.
