NFL Random Thought of the Day

Kahale Warring certainly have made the rounds since being waived by the Texans..............over 10 days.......... waived by the Texans on August 23, claimed by the Pats on August 24, waived by New England on August 27, claimed by the Colts on August 28, and then waived by the Colts on August 31..............now signed by the Bills.

Maturity issues?

I guess his nickname in NFL circles is going to be “3-Day” going forward.

Probably because Brian Gaine, who drafted him back in 2019, is on the Bills staff.

Tres Lance has been reported as having a chip fracture of a finger. The head coach says that it is a 7 day injury. As I just found out, the fracture is of the index finger..........of his right throwing hand. Seven days is very unrealistic if he is expected to perform well.

TY Hilton won't be seen for quite a while. Just had surgery. From what I can gather, it is a severely herniated cervical disk which required removal with fusion......likely at least 3 months.

Is this similar to what Manning had to have? Feels like this type of procedure is in my future, unfortunately. Seeing my Dr about my MRI on Wed.

Count me in this group

Sometimes your evals miss the mark.

It happens.

so many factors involved. Scheme fit. Coaching. Teammates. Besides all of those things, he is pretty limited to LT, does not or has not developed strength to play RT or kick inside. Plenty there to work with, but what is nut job Howie asking for in return? If Eagles waive/cut him hoping to get back supplemental pick in return, several teams would interested. Only Texans trade away picks like they can’t use them anyway in the actual draft (preface that by saying, in past anyway).

Manning had more than 1 cervical level which involved boney degeneration. He had previous microdiscectomy before his single level fusion. Being a QB, you would not expect anywhere as much trauma to the neck as a WR like dare-devil Hilton. Hilton can come back from this surgery (~75% can return from single level fusion). But with his style of play, it must be questioned if he comes back, how long until the next big hit that affects him out of the game.

Not originally reported, but I have confirmed that Martin had been fully vaccinated since the beginning of preseason..............demonstrating that the vaccine does not prevent COVID infection.
I think that’s what Belichick was alluding to.

I haven't seen the latest on Zack Martin, but heard that if he tests negative twice before the game on Thursday, that he will be able to play.

Saints are releasing Latavius Murray, I wonder if the Ravens have called him yet.

Duane Brown holds out during season with Texans forcing a trade at deadline because he no longer likes the contract he signed.

He gets traded to the Seahawks and now this year he misses all of training camp… again because he no longer likes the contract he signed with them.

At what point do you honor your contract instead of refusing to do your job?

Do NFL teams pay out 100% of a players contract or do they cut them without having to pay?

Depends on how much guaranteed money is left. Point with Duane is how does he get himself into a situation twice after his rookie deal that he feels he does not need to honor his current contract because its no longer “fair”?

Why would he not ask for more money? Especially if he feels he deserves it? Why would anyone ever be on the owner/front office side in these situations? NFL prints money. The players' careers are just a few short years if they're lucky. I hope every player gets all they money they can.

The same way NFL franchises get themselves in the situation of cutting multiple players every year after year after year and not paying those players all of their salary that they had negotiated for. Seems one sided.

So what’s the limit on number of players sitting out because they feel they are not being paid fairly before you stop tuning in?

Brown wasn’t all of a sudden an unknown commodity. This is his 2nd contract after his 1st round rookie deal. If you want to change your contract every year then don’t sign long term deals. Sign 1 year deals and be an NFL mercenary like Suh. The team pays you very well to be there for the offseason (which he gets to miss for some reason) and for games (which he missed with the Texans).

I don’t have sympathy for multimillionaire athletes who get to sit out of doing their job and get rewarded for it. How much the owners make in this is irrelevant.

I suspect we won't agree on this, but anyway. As was mentioned by multiple posters, teams cut players still under contract all the time. Without the players, there's no NFL, so how much the owners make is absolutely relevant. Players have a few short years at best to cash in on their ability, so like I said if they hold out to get paid, more power to them. You don't have sympathy for "multimillionaire athletes" (majority of NFL players are not, btw), but you seem to have some for multibillionaire owners.

Why even bother having contracts.

Let every player become a FA after every yr if you want to truly have what DB wants. BTW, I'm for this, only if you play well and stay healthy do you get paid for the next yr.

The NFLPA will never go along with this because they want to have things both ways, as does DB.

The guaranteed $$$$ is all that matters in a contract and after it's paid out is when you see POS like DB/Hopkins pull this crap. Ownership accepts all responsibility if a guy has a career ending injury or just out for the season, players get paid all of the guaranteed $$$$ in their contracts plus the $$$$ that's non guaranteed for the yr they got hurt.

Yep. You want to redo your contract every year deal with the consequences when you get hurt and can’t play the next year.

I have sympathy for any business owner who has employees that don’t have to honor the contract and get a raise before they come back to work. Where they may or may not perform their job duties for the duration of their new contract they agree upon.

This should tell people something.

The actual data (not the talking point) should tell people that C19 is very dangerous for old people, regardless of vaccination status. The overwhelming majority of Israeli ICU patients are old with 99% of them having other comorbidities (i.e. cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, obesity, etc). The variants are getting worse for these demographics, too.

I have no desire for a COVID talk, so my point is bringing this into focus as it relates to the NFL: Trying to correlate this Israeli data to young men at the peak of fitness in the NFL is pointless. I doubt many (if any) NFL players end up in the hospital, much less the ICU. I would be concerned about the old and/or overweight coaching staffs, though.
