Looks like we’re reverting back to the days where the defense was all that we had to look forward to. Unless the perv changes his mind and stays.

Had Cooper Rush played more our defense may not have been quite as impressive. There were some good things to take away from the game tonight but most of them were on defense. Our offense struggled far too much imo.
Defense always smooths out first .... offense has so much more to learn .... they'll get better as they go along !

the OLine behind the starters really didn't look that good. Mills didn't have much of a chance on the 3rd down plays when Dallas blitzed because the OLine didn't know who to pick up.
I was hearing that Dallas was playing their starting DL the first half? I dont know since I don’t know their team. Gotta love a second game now where we weren’t having pre snap penalties ad nauseam on the OL. Lack of third down conversions will draw DC’s ire all week. Gotta wait till next week against TB to see what adjustments can be made.

It's only pre-season; but still...Dallas is supposed to be the better team. We should have lost.

One thing I noticed is that when the defense gave up a bad play and I looked at the number responsible, it was usually not a starter. This was the case multiple times.

Mills did not have a turnover and really didn't have any really bad plays. The take I have on his performance tonight is that he just needs snaps and experience and continued progress.

While you Lol I will take any good there is to be found no matter whether it is preseason or not. The W's are good for confidence going forward but just the same they mean nothing and we all know that. I've still seen some good things we can take into account going forward.

I would have liked our defense to have played better when Cooper Rush was playing. Still, glad to have won and there was some good things to take from our defense. I would have liked to have seen better play on offense all around. There is no excuse to have failed on so many third down conversions.

Charles Omenihue is going to have double digit sacks and a lot of TFL's this season. It looks that way as of now anyhow!
He’s looking good. Gotta be impressed with Lopez with the same sack totals from the NT position. This DL is getting good pressure without blitzing. Give them credit for the interceptions. DC said the heart of the Texans is the DL and OL and it’s good to see their execution so far. Just gotta build on it.

Of the Cowboys front four, 3 starters on their official depth chart (early) did not play.

Not sure about Gregory, but if he did play, he would still be nursing an injury.

You just have to be the spoiler huh. Man I don’t care if certain players didn’t play.

This D hasn't been overly spectacular this game, but the turnovers forced in these first two preseason games is very encouraging.
Looks like we’re reverting back to the days where the defense was all that we had to look forward to. Unless the perv changes his mind and stays.
They got 3 picks from a 7th round 4th string nobody QB. They also had 75% of Dallas QBs passes completed on them.

Didn't get to watch the game, will try to later, but looking at the boxscore and some highlights, looks like it was a really boring game.

The run D looks like it played well again this week, and a 5 sack night looks pretty nice, especially with Omenihu getting a couple.

The offense? Yikes! 0-10 on 3rd down? WTF? Without Driskel's 23 rushing yards, the Texans were 2.8 per carry on the night? Starting-ish offense with just 13 snaps, looks like they could use a lot more work.

I'll have to wait and watch the game to comment on Mills. His stats certainly look better, but 141 yards total offense in his 6 drives with 5 of those 6 being 25 yards or less, no 3rd down conversions and 1 FG scoring drive was his night?

Zero TD passes by any Texans QB in 2 games.

Somewhat disappointed to see Phillips only get 4 touches but at least he averaged 4 yards per. Lindsay and Ingram combining for 2.3?

TEs got 2 targets the entire game, both to Jordan. So it looks like the O'Brien Kelly offense is in full swing.

And where was Nico?

Looks like a practice I was lucky to miss, but I'll take a look at it anyway.

I'm not as happy about this game as I was the first preseason game.

Our offensive line and our running game, which I expected to be a strength, wasn't.

Conley dropped some passes that I think were catchable.

Mills was still inconsistent. He's got to learn to deal with blitzes, but he's got an arm on him.

The strip-sack by Martin and the sacks by Omenihu were good to see, but there were some big mistakes on the D.

I'm glad we won, but for me, this wasn't boding well for the regular season.

Overall I’m good with these first two games. For me, coming from the ashes of OB and DW, I think the first steps of the total reset is moving in the right direction. the philosophy of building this team on the backs of the OL and DL is sound football. those guys are the flywheels that set the game plans in action. It was good to see the D adjustments at halftime limiting the Boys to zero points and 27 yards rushing in the second half. My main desire this year was to see viable Oand D systems introduced that are solid and can indicate areas of needed adjustments. So far, so good. The effort and discipline are outstanding. No doubt in this short period the players are excited about it. The energy is fantastic. Loved that total D end zone dance in the fourth? Qtr. I get it what lies ahead. But i also get it that positive steps are being made. Asking for anything more at this point is a pipe dream and an unnecessary early put down of the efforts this team has made.

I was expecting more.

After the first two games I’m less optimistic about this team winning more than 4 games. & it starts up front. I thought the OL was the strongest part of our team & a new OL coach was going to establish a true running game.

We saw Dallas’ “1st team” open a gaping hole allowing their 2nd string RB to run 12 yards untouched, while our “1st team” couldn’t afford two yards to our RBs untouched.

If we can’t run the ball, we’ve got nothing. If we can’t stop the run, we’ve got nothing.

Think about it from the perspective of Dallas. Here they are supposedly contending with Washington for their division. They were expected to dominate a no-talent team which is projected to be the worst team in the league. Pre-season or no, they lost . This was their 3rd pre-season game, the game they should have been preping for the season opener. And they lost. Against a bum, no talent bottom dweller team.

Can’t really judge that when all the starters aren’t in there and those that are play just 13 snaps or so. These PS games just suck to high hell for us fans to really evaluate anything.

OMG! It’s a game where starters play very little, the majority of players who did play are backups or about to be cut. What these teams look like in these games right now do not tell you anything about what they will look like in the regular season.

God I hate preseason games.

Then why the negativity about the Texans play?

Good thing is I've heard Tampa's dress rehearsal is next week.

Positives - Brevin Jordan, Roy Lopez and Mark Ingram look like being good acquisitions for the team. There are others. I especially hope that Davis Mills can continue to improve.
Negatives - our ability to stop the rush needs to improve drastically. I know it was only second and third stringers in our line, but pass rushers will be first stringers when the season gets meaningful.

I disagree. Mills made some vet type throws, never locked in on any one receiver, nor did he force passes. The 3rd down stats don’t tell the whole story. If you watched the game you’d know that no QB, not even Watson, could have made anything happen with that piss poor performance by the offensive line on 3rd down. Dallas’ defense literally sent everyone blitzing on 3rd down every time, yet the offensive line kept going no block mode leaving Mills wide open to get demolished.

I don’t get why Conley was allowed to keep playing after the first three drops where the ball literally bounced off his hands. Had he made those catches, I believe Mills would have probably had at least 1-2 touchdown passes. The kid did a hell of a job for being a third round pick. Keke Coutee impressed me last night as his hands looked very much improved.

Lopez looks to be a huge steal this far!

Our OL is still in some flux with Tunsil, Cannon and Taylor still out. And Heck still learning the RT position, particularly picking up the blitz. If we have our starters set by start of the season, it may still take a few games to start gaining cohesion as a unit.

Good thing we finally have a GM that knows the importance of having a good offensive line, as NE pretty much stayed having a great offensive line to protect the GOAT. I trust Caserio with the responsibility of building a good offensive line. I still say that 2023 will be the year it all comes together and the Texans make the deepest run in franchise history.

Then why the negativity about the Texans play?
Negativity? Did I not mention the run D playing well, the pass rush looking alive, Omenihu in particular? Is it negative that I mention the 1st, 2nd and 3rd units on offense going 0-10 on 3rd down? I mean, I don't know how to put a positive spin on that. Perhaps I should listen to more Vandermeer and John Harris for pointers there.

And either way, what happened last night is still NO indication of anything with regards to the regular season. All starters are not playing and those that do see a handful of snaps. That is not how football games are going to be played from September to January.

The Super Bowl champs got embarrassed last night. So did the Seahawks. The Packers lost again. You think that gives some kind of indication of what these teams will be like come September? Not only no, but hell no. These are games where 85 players are being rotated in and out. These are games being played by a lot of guys who will be looking for jobs next week.

Preseason is for evaluating individuals and preparing for the season. Preseason gives you zero indication of what the team you put on the field on Sept. 12 is going to look like.

That said, my evaluation of Omenihu - good. I'm liking what I see out of the rook Lopez, BUT that has to be taken with the knowledge that he's playing against 2's and 3's. The defense is forcing a lot of turnovers, BUT getting a lot of turnovers against a 4th string QB also has to be taken into consideration. Not saying Dak Prescott will never throw INTs, but he'll be a **** ton better than some guy named DiNucci.

The offense looked pretty bad last night, BUT the offense that will be playing the WHOLE game Sept.12 saw very few snaps together. You can not judge what this team might look like then on that.

Regarding offense and Tim Kelly, need to improve up tempo play calling. Understandable working the clock end of half or game but when you have the momentum and need to score, push tempo up a notch.
Fairly common issue with many teams not just Texans but that’s a facet needing hard look to capitalize opportunity’s, in order to steal some games they would lose otherwise.

That's on the QB. He has to recognize the extra rushers & tell his RB/TE to protect.

It's the preseason. Teams are getting young players reps, determining the back end of the roster, and trying to stay healthy. The Texans have fewer young players at the back end than other teams, so they should look better at the end of these preseason games. I didn't see anything I didn't think I would see.

The punter looked good. That will be important this season.

Texans got 5 sacks last night but were any of them when that vaunted starting Dallas Oline was in the game or were all the sacks vs bench-warmers ?

At least one was on Dallas' first offensive series, the strip-sack fumble recovery. But IMO that was more on their QB than the line.

I will agree with you in regards to the defense against the run but as far as the D vs the passing game, their only saving grace was the length of time Benjamin DiNucci played against them. Had Cooper Rush been in the game longer, we probably lose that game.
