Texans Minicamp, OTA’s and Preseason

They’re killing Nick Caserio and David Culley.

You have to be able to answer those tough questions. Should’ve been prepped and ready. That dancing around crap will not cut it.
Does anyone, other than the media, really care? The media, including locally, want to make this a big deal when it's not. Caserio and Culley, basically in a long winded way, said "no comment". This is not what the media wants. They want something they can report and feel they have a right to have their questions answered. They don't.

Texans Camp: Day 1

Mills makes big-time throws
Rookie quarterback Davis Mills, a third-round pick, has a lot to learn, of course, but he’s got a big arm and can drive the ball. He showed his arm strength and accuracy during his first NFL practice. The 6-4, 225-pound Mills moves well enough to buy time in the pocket. He can also run for yards when necessary. He gets along with his teammates and works closely with Pep Hamilton, the new passing game coordinator who also coaches quarterbacks. The coaches expect to see daily improvement from Mills.

Miller making smooth transition
The newest wide receiver, Anthony Miller, is getting a crash course in the offense since being acquired from Chicago over the weekend. While warming up with the quarterbacks, he ran almost every route perfectly, used quick hands to catch the ball and then turned it up the field and took off. When general manager Nick Caserio acquired Miller and a seventh-round draft choice in 2022 from Chicago for a fifth-round pick next year, Randall Cobb became expendable. Cobb announced on Twitter Wednesday morning he’d been traded to Green Bay. “We feel like he’s basically an inside guy,” coach David Culley said. “They (Miller and Cobb) are similar receivers.” Miller, a second-round pick in 2018, had 33, 52 and 49 catches in his three seasons with the Bears. He’s entering the last year of his contract, so the Texans should get the best he has to offer. He made a strong impression on his first day with the Texans, but he’s got a long way to go.

Collins off to good start
Watching the Texans’ first practice, it was hard not to notice rookie receiver Nico Collins. Collins, a third-round pick from Michigan, stood out in practice as he did in the OTAs. At 6-4, 215, he’s the tallest receiver. He lines up outside, gets off the line quick, makes crisp cuts and shows strong, quick hands. Once he gets the ball, Collins cuts it up the field fast. General manager Nick Caserio traded two draft choices to move back into the third round to get Collins, who ran a 4.41 40-yard dash at Michigan’s pro day. He opted out of last season with the Wolverines, so his transition into the NFL might be more challenging. The sooner Collins can learn the system, develop a rapport with starting quarterback Tyrod Taylor, know what he’s doing on the field and figure out the coverages against him, he should be able to make a significant contribution.

Offensive line has experience
With tackle Marcus Cannon and guard Lane Taylor on the active/physically unable to perform list and tackle Geron Christian Sr. on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, the Texans didn’t have as much competition in the offensive line as they usually would have for the start of camp. Three starting jobs are secure. Left tackle Laremy Tunsil and Tytus Howard anchor the outside. They have the talent to be one of the league’s better tackle duos. Justin Britt is the center. Max Scharping, who made 22 starts in his first two seasons, is competing for the starting job at left guard. Keep an eye on Justin McCray, a five-year veteran, as he competes with Taylor at right guard. Because the Texans weren’t practicing in shoulder pads, the linemen couldn’t fire off the ball and hit anyone. Based on the talent, experience and infusion of veteran free agents, the line could be more productive, consistent and better overall than last season.

Don't know who it is speaking on 610, but was at practice and says Mills has made visible progress from OTA's and is confident that Mills should be splitting reps 50-50 with Tayler.
That was hayseed. He was saying Mills should be getting those reps since Mills was drafted.

Under NRG

Released WR Donte Moncrief with a non-football injury designation. Placed OT Geron Christian, RB Buddy Howell and WR Taywan Taylor on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Placed DBs Cornell Armstrong, Lonnie Johnson, TE Pharaoh Brown and DE DeMarcus Walker on the non-football injury list.
Hmmm didn't think I could see Howell on this list

What are you talking about? I read the transcripts. Who was the dick head basically accusing the Texans of treating DW poorly. Really? That’s how far this country’s culture has fallen. DC couldn’t put it into anymore better words that he didn’t want to discuss DW’s situation. There is an ongoing investigation on that asshole. Tell me exactly what he was supposed to say. I got to hear this.

I said they meaning 790 and 610 were killing them. Even some of the reporters were tripping. Asking them why is Watson on the scout team.
Fixed it

During a team period, Lindsay made a cutback run out the backside of the play and I thought "yeah, that's his game." Later, he made a cut back into the teeth of the interior of the defense and I thought "yeah, that's his game too." I'm not completely sure how he sees what he sees, but the 5-8, 190 lb. runner fears nothing, in particular banging inside on cutbacks or inside runs. He's well put together too, strong upper body, thick calves, legs and trunk.

National media folks developed a distaste for BrianTSmith today, with him interrupting and yelling over them and trying to ask 6 back-to-back questions in a row with his whiney voice. One asked out loud, "They (Houston Chronicle) fired Aaron Wilson and kept that guy???"

He got a pretty mouth, don't he.
He‘s terrible. Wilson was so much better

Just heard Brevin Jordan fumbled and Kahale Warring is doing nothing. 2017 UDFA Antony Auclair is, from what hear, getting more reps than former 3rd round pick and collegiate water polo dork Warring.

Deshaun Watson is participating more today and his body language is better. He is also throwing reps, but not in 11-on-11 but the day is still young
That’s odd. All the reports I’m seeing says he’s doing less today than yesterday.

On another note, what’s the deal with these offensive players on defense? Watson at safety, Tunsil at LB? Out of 90 players in camp there aren’t enough to play defense?

I don’t have the slightest idea.

Lopez and Laundry are reporting the opposite of Sarge. I stopped listening to them mainly because of Lopez. That dude is annoying

Most of Houston sports media is absolutely nauseating. I get that they have to drum up some sort of controversy so they can have something to discuss, but calling out Cully for not putting the DW with the starters is garbage. How about calling it like it is and like the rest of us see it: Cully didn't want to give any more resources or attention to a guy who flat out stated he doesn't want to be here. If Cully was able to say that in a press conference and truly speak his mind, then it would be a whole other controversy that he said it.

It was a few guys on here who has predicted them to go winless. A few predicted a 1 win season.
I've predicted 2-4 wins.

The team is comprised of a bunch of guys that have never played together, in a new system under a HC who admitted today he's learning how to be a head coach.

The players are saying the right things and their attitude seems really good. I wish that were enough.

Lopez is annoying but less than his co-talking head. Lopez book about Kerri Strug
coming out 2022 as a movie.. Lopez going full on John McClain!
Lopez will start calling himself “the admiral” to compete with John’s self proclaimed “the general” moniker.

I have not made any predictions on wins yet. I'm waiting to see how bad the rest of the league is.

How many games (for example) do you think Arizona will win if Hop decides to sit out this season?

I am still predicting Watson suits up week 1 as the starter. I don't see a scenario in which we can trade him until the legal issues are fixed, and we might as well get our money's worth from him. It's in his best interest to continue to shine on the field because if he can settle or get rid of the lawsuits and avoid criminal charges, he will still need to show he can play, and missing an entire year will not help him stay at the top of his game.
