NFL Random Thought of the Day

NFL owners ain't spending a rando middle of the night partying up and down Bourban street with regular folk either..

That one surprised the heck out of me . We were just planning to stop by Pat O'Brien's for a drink and had no idea we would end up partying with Jerry and family. Initially he and his body guard came in and stayed about 30 minutes, then left and a half hour or so later came back with the family. It was really cool! I heard that when he left was when he was walking down Bourbon Street with the fans.

Wow that is a tremendous amount to give for an NFL player who many here have guaranteed us will never stand a chance.

Who is the head coach for the Titans again man he must be stupid!

I thought the GM makes decisions on draft picks/trades etc... But maybe I'm just old school and the QB's making these kinds of decisions now?

Well, I guess I got that wrong. I didn't think Dak wanted to be in Dallas. Maybe he'll demand a trade in 9 months.

'cept Jerry Jones ain't stupid enough to promise Dak anything more than just playing QB for the Dallas Cowboys. :zipit:

Prescott has just gotten a hefty contract. He is coming off an open fracture dislocation of his ankle last Oct with a cartilage cleanup in Dec. From all information I have, despite what is being put out there, his rehab has been slow with unexpected residual still in play. His next season could will be "interesting" for him, the Cowboys and Jerry.
Thanks Doc! I was stunned that they signed him. I expected him to go to another team for a lot less money.

The Chiefs have released star left tackle Eric Fisher, ending the former No. 1 overall draft pick's eight-year run in Kansas City.

The move, announced Thursday, will save the reigning AFC champion Chiefs about $12 million against the salary cap. Kansas City also released starting right tackle Mitchell Schwartz.

Wowser when did KC release Schwartz ? I thought he was IRed last Fall, but they've also cut him now, huh ?
Anyway the mighty Chiefs don't look so invincible anymore if they are now without both offensive tackles.
I thought the main reason for their loss in this years SB was the backup personnel in the OLine but maybe their starters weren't that good anyway.

Neither was re-signed due to significant injuries.............Schwartz with a back injury which inevitably will require surgery...............and Fisher whose Achilles rupture is not likely to allow him to be productive, at least in 2021.

Patrick Mahomes restructure will free up $17 million of cap room for Chiefs
Posted by Josh Alper on March 12, 2021, 2:11 PM EST

signed an extension with the Buccaneers on Friday that opens up $19 million in cap room for the 2021 season and the other quarterback from Super Bowl LV will be tweaking his contract to give the Chiefs more space.

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Chiefs will convert Mahomes’ $21.7 million roster bonus for this season into a signing bonus. That will allow them to spread the cap hit out into future years and open up $17 million in cap space for the coming year.

Mahomes signed a 10-year deal with the Chiefs before the 2020 season, so there are plenty of future years for the Chiefs to use to their short-term cap advantage. The coming years could see more of the same as Mahomes has large roster bonuses due each season.

Plenty of pass rushers are available in free agency

We’re reminded from time to time of the importance of a great pass rusher, often in the Super Bowl when, for example, a team like the Giants repeatedly harasses Tom Brady (twice) or a team like the Broncos repeatedly harasses Cam Newton or, most recently, a team like the Buccaneers repeatedly harasses Patrick Mahomes.

As 2021 free agency approaches, an unprecedented collection of pass rushers will be available, starting with the best pass rusher on the defending champions: Shaq Barrett.

The Bucs didn’t tag Barrett, and they’ve yet to sign him to a new deal. It’s entirely possible that the Bucs have looked around at the many other pass rushers who will be available, and that they’ve decided they can sign either Barrett or several other players instead — especially with the cap dropping and veterans galore likely to be looking for one-year deals.

Beyond Barrett, our Top 100 list of free agents has 13 other edge rushers: Matthew Judon of the Ravens; Carl Lawson of the Bengals; Haason Reddick of the Cardinals; Trey Hendrickson of the Saints; Leonard Floyd of the Rams; Bud Dupree of the Steelers; Yannick Ngakoue of the Ravens; Romeo Okwara of the Lions; Carlos Dunlap, cut by the Seahawks; Justin Houston of the Colts; Olivier Vernon of the Browns; Ryan Kerrigan of Washington; and Denico Autry of the Colts.
Other pass rushers who will be on the market include (but are not limited to) Aldon Smith of the Cowboys, Jadeveon Clowney of the Titans, Melvin Ingram of the Chargers, John Simon of the Patriots, Jeremiah Attaochu of the Broncos, Everson Griffen of the Lions, Markus Golden of the Cardinals, and Bruce Irvin.

Then there’s the looming possibility, if not likelihood, that the Broncos will cut Super Bowl 50 MVP Von Miller.

That's what makes the Colts so scary already. They have their new QB in Wentz and still possess the cap assets to make their defense very, very good for next season. The Colts, not the Titans will be the team to beat in the AFC South.

Man, I hope they add Hassan Reddick in FA. That guy was misused until last year and his best football should be ahead of him.

Despite reports during the regular season that the Raiders would lose a sixth-round draft pick for violating the league’s COVID-19 rules, the league office confirmed today that the Raiders won’t lose a pick.

The NFL told PFT that the Raiders have been fined $800,000 for violations of the NFL-NFLPA COVID protocols during the 2020 season, but they will not forfeit a pick.

The Saints, who were stripped of a 2022 sixth-round pick for violating the COVID-19 rules, were the only team to lose a draft pick for violations. Several NFL teams, coaches and players were fined various amounts during the 2020 season for COVID-19 protocol violations.

It is unclear why the Raiders were not docked of a draft pick despite the violations that led to the $800,000 fine, but the team was likely able to appeal to the league office and convince the NFL to hand down only a monetary penalty.

There were several incidents that led to the Dolphins releasing Wilson, sources tell NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Wilson was hours late for his team physical, late for his onboarding process and the 22-year-old didn't show up for voluntary workouts he had previously committed to Thursday and Friday.

Young, stupid, arrogant, and about to be broke. He'll be standing around like a buffoon wondering where all his friends are when the money well dries up and is replaced by collection notices. Ducking stupid arse!!!!!

The WFT should go with the Redhawks. Use the old "R" in a circle logo with a redhawk feather hanging off the circle. Maroon helmet, Gold Ring, White Background Within the Ring, Maroon "R", White, Gold, Maroon Feather, and Gold Facemask.......beautiful thing, the rest of the uniform can remain exactly as they are.

According to TMZ, the Washington Football Team might be a permanent name.

"Team sources tell us owner Daniel Snyder is strongly considering sticking with the Washington Football Team -- for good reasons that we'll get into in a moment -- but we're also told the Washington Football Club is also in the running." Source

Rule proposal will give kicking team a better chance to recover onside kicks
Posted by Michael David Smith on April 3, 2021, 6:32 AM EDT

Since the NFL changed the kickoff rules to prohibit a running start by the kicking team, onside kicks have become much less successful. A new rule proposal aims to change that.

The proposed rule would require the receiving team to have no more than nine players lined up in the “setup zone,” which is defined as the area between 10 and 25 yards from the spot of the kickoff.

Currently, NFL teams always put either 10 or 11 players in the setup zone when they’re expecting the opposing team to onside kick. According to the NFL’s tracking data, receiving teams expecting an onside kick line up with 10 players in the setup zone 87 percent of the time, and all 11 players in the setup zone the other 13 percent of the time.

With only nine players in the setup zone, fewer players on the receiving team will be in a position to recover the onside kick, and the kicking team will have a better chance to get to the ball. The NFL is also considering the fourth-and-15 alternative to the onside kick, but regardless of whether that rule passes, this rule would make onside kicks more viable.

There's a good chance Jags take him instead of Lawrence - they often do something unpredictable in the draft.
Unless Trevor starts getting frisky with his masseuses, there's zero.zero chance of the Jags taking anyone but Lawrence.

Britt Reid charged with DWI in crash that seriously injured 5-year-old girl

Posted by Michael David Smith on April 12, 2021, 1:57 PM EDT

Former Chiefs assistant coach Britt Reid, the son of head coach Andy Reid, has been charged with driving while intoxicated for a crash that seriously injured a 5-year-old girl.

The Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office announced today that Reid has been charged with DWI, a class D felony with a potential prison sentence of one to seven years, according to 41 Action News in Kansas City.

Reid, who has a previous drunk driving conviction, acknowledged to police he had been drinking before he slammed into a car that had pulled over to assist another car that had broken down. Prosecutors say their analysis concluded that Reid was driving 83.9 mph and that he had a blood alcohol concentration of .113. Prosecutors also say Reid had “prior alcohol contacts in Pennsylvania and Arizona.” Reid’s previous drunk driving conviction in Pennsylvania had been well documented, but there was no previous reporting of any incident with Reid in Arizona.

Ariel Young, the 5-year-old girl in the car, suffered what her family described as permanent brain injuries, although recently the family has said Young is slowly but surely getting better.

The crash happened just days before the Super Bowl and resulted in Reid, then the Chiefs’ outside linebackers coach, not joining the team for the game. The Chiefs have since said he is no longer employed by the team.
