Jamey Rootes Resigns

The 1st part of your post is bunk considering Rootes I believe was the guy who brought in the search firm for the last 2 HC’s. He was also on the committee of folks Bob and most likely Cal bounced things off of When it came to certain decisions regarding the team these last 2-3 years. Apart from that he’s reportedly leaving b/c he doesn’t like how things are going now. So if his side of things was completely separate, he sure as hell isnt acting like it was. Me thinks he was very much involved with football operations and had likely the same if not more involvement with that side than Easterby did/does. But now he just doesn’t have as much influence anymore and he’s upset.
Jack, is that you??

Clearly the end of an era for the Houston Texans, as Watt is the most popular and at the very least the best defensive player if not the best over all player that's ever suited up in a Texans uni to date.
Will be very interesting to see where he ends up for the balance of his playing days, and of course the obvious destinations would be Green Bay or Pittsburg, both contenders and teams for different reasons for which he's sentimental about.

Nobody can say this hasn't been an eventful off-season

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
On the marketing side yes.

On the football side (If he was involved) he was part of the problem.

We know he was in the room for a lot of stupid decisions. We don't know how much say he had and at this point I have to assume he was the best of a bad bunch. My boss asks me to facilitate some stupid things. I do them because I'm out ranked. Did he? I guess we'll never know.

There are some of us who have been saying the same thing about Easterby. Dude has likely been in the room when a lot of these bad decisions have been made, but it gets murky as to how much if any say he has actually had. I’ve had dialogue with at least a few on here who have said the mere fact he has a VP title, it means he has had TREMENDOUS say and it’s why all this ruckus is going on.

so in using that same logic then, we can assume that Rootes has had tremendous say in the decisions of the last 2 years since he technically out ranked Easterby as the President. I know folks wanna act like the business and football side of things were separate for the sake of wanting to lay everything at Easterby/Cal’s feet, but the fact that Rootes was responsible for bringing in the Korn Ferry team on 2 separate occasions for the coaching and GM searches shows that that’s not quite accurate. He’s also the only person who has been a GM as well; albeit for a soccer team. So it’s highly likely He’s been just as involved and has had tremendous say with what’s been happening on the football side for at a minimum the last 10 years....so “best of a bad bunch” isn’t saying a whole lot about that dude. So in my mind, he’s just as responsible for this clusterfuck as Cal, Easterby and DW4.

Which is why they need a full and thorough housecleaning.

I pretty sure once Easterby did his audit he stepped on some longtime front office toes that previously had been untouchable. This lead to animosity and the leaks.

Notice how the leaks stopped since Rootes left Kirby.
That's the expected results of purging critical thinkers and surrounding yourself with group-think mentalities.

You have mentioned a lost decade. I'll take it a step further that I doubt this team will ever achieve much with Cal as owner and has a dude like Easterby doing his dirty work. Nobody will want to play here. Drafted players will look for the first possible exit. Only hope is a PSL-revolt, but I'm not holding my breath for it.

We’ve been saying some iteration of this from day one. Still...

Texans need to take the next step. Hopefully it’s in the right direction.

Yes. This was my point the moment things went South with DW4. How will this team ever get free agents or keep young stars if they can't keep a stud like DW4 on the roster? Throw in your legend (AJ80) coming out and bashing the front office twice. It's not going to be a good outlook for this franchise. Honestly, unless they figure things out with Watson, they are doomed until Cal sells, IMO

So unless they bow down to DW4 the franchise is doomed?

Do y'all realize how dumb this sounds particularly when NFL careers usually dont last more than 5 yrs and DW4 already having 2 ACL surgeries odds are that his career probably wont last more than another 5 or 6 yrs.

That's the problem with discussing things with you, you take them to the extreme side of things.

The Watson part was superfluous. Should have said “This franchise is doomed until the McNairs sell.”
Of course it washw laid out the perfect case for why the franchise is doomed if they trade DW4.

But whatever

lol! Funny stuff coming from a guy that has predicts (and brags about) the franchise is doomed for the last decade+. :fingergun:

With or without Watson, this franchise ain't doing anything great as long as the McNairs own it. It feels like a Captain Obvious statement at this point.

The McNairs owning it isn’t the problem as it is the McNairs owning it and not staying out of it. I’m still hopeful that now that Cal has finally caught the white whale (Caserio) he and his father chased he will step back but we will see.

To be fair right now the media isn’t letting him step back because they have made this Watson vs Cal with a little Easterby on the side. Caserio and especially Culley are barely getting mentioned.

Agreed and DW4's got very little to do with this.

However I am hoping that Cal lives up to his word and let's Caserio handle all things football realted.

Duck all the finger pointing!!! What's been done has been done and can't be undone. Texans fans can hate the FO BS but we damm sure don't jump behind players who want to screw the organization. From a fan standpoint, Watson won't be able to fix this with a simple "sorry". He made his bed, and as the old saying goes, now he'll have to sleep in it.

Texans need to announce publicly that Watson is available and the team will be entertaining offers from Watson's desired teams. Do I care that some folks might be crying that Watson is calling the shots? Duck no!!! Get rid of him and his contract now and cash in on the fervor his availability will create. This is big ducking business not the local HS Girls bathroom, where getting even is the business of the day.

Texans royally screwed up when they gave all those terrible contracts out over the past 5 years. Now, now is the opportunity to clear the board while taking a discolored-eye (PC) in 2021. Collect the picks and players and make the windfall count towards finally getting a foundation down for the future.

I understand your perspective. The difference between us is that you are still hopeful. I abandoned all hope with Cal McNair. Perhaps he'll ultimately prove me wrong. But I've never seen a zebra change its stripes.

Understood.

But, I'm in wait and see mode with Caserio. My days of giving this franchise and its owners the benefit of the doubt are long behind me. Prove it to me first, just like they expect the players in college to prove their worth before they are drafted or a pro player has to prove it before the 2nd contract.

My attitude is the direct result of this organization's history. Earn respect. It's no longer gratis just for existing.

Spot on and I wish more fans had had this attitude back in 2010.

However as fans all we can do is hope Caserio is a genius level guy that Cal will let fully run the football side of the org. Or to pass time we can sit back and find humor in watching a real life Smokey and the Bandit film happen.

Cant you just see right now Janice after talking with DW4's mom telling Cal boy you gotta trade that sinner Hopkins pronto and Cal saing momma I dont think we should do that and Janice saying boy you came from my loins and I'm telling you what to do. Cal comes back with OK Momma.

There was a lot of mental pictures I didn't need there Steel. Janice's loins being number one of that list. *shivers*

Still pushing that imaginary scenario around these parts I see.

A scenario brought up on local sports radio this morning was what if it's not Cal that's keeping Easterby around, but Janice?

If this mama-to-mama story has any credence (and I've got reasons to lean toward true), then Janice is wielding a lot of soft power behind the scenes and might be the Emperor to Darth Cal. Obviously, just speculation here, so grain of salt accordingly.

Disliked because of the images now ingrained in my brain.
And sadly, it's probably true.

I imagine Janice is meddling as much if not more than Cal. It's a McNair thing.

So, what is the latest? Did Rootes leave because Easterby was stepping on his toes or was it because the McNairs ignored his and Korn Ferry's GM selection?
