Jamey Rootes Resigns

Mr. White

Retired OLine Coach
This is a move that everyone saw coming. Glass half full prediction is that maybe part of the "culture" is going to be more about football than business and marketing.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/john-mcclain/article/Texans-president-Jamey-Rootes-resigns-15939250.php?utm_campaign=premiumchron_breakingnews_20210210&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email

In 2005, McNair promoted Rootes to president, a position he retained until turning in his resignation to Cal McNair, who has run the team since his father lost his battle with cancer in November of 2018.

“I love Cal like a brother,” Rootes said. “This idea (resigning) isn’t new to me. When Bob’s health started to decline, I thought it was important for the organization to have stability during this window. When Bob passed away, I felt like I owed it to Cal to be here.”

I’m good with that. Isn’t that what everyone wanted? Less marketing department, more football? I swear, most will b1tch about any damn thing. Even women can make up their minds from time to time.
“The Texans need to stop this marketing with a football program bs, and get serious!”

10 minutes later: “What, the business/marketing guy resigned? The sky is falling!”

I wish this was true, but in our collective hearts, we know it is not.

The focus has shifted from marketing to evangelizing. Football is just a means to an end with this franchise.

They should complete the circus by signing that Osteen con artist as the team spiritual advisor.
"...a technical violation of the 1972 ABM Treaty...

...I'm asking for hands to be uplifted for just a moment. God the Holy Ghost is calling out to embrace you

I want you to reach deep into your hearts and your pocketbooks, and take his hand
Some of you are in a state of rebellion right now

Bless me, Father, for I have sinned

You're saying that..."

While I agree with this and Rootes was very good at his job, it was past time for change in the Texans org. Whether this works out,( doubtful) remains to be seen.

I think if Cuck had hired anybody but the Foxboro clan fans would understand more. ( Well maybe not those fans that can't seem to understand that DW4 doesn't want to play in Houston anymore.)

Fact is the media guys have been able to control the narrative. I think we can safely say that now we know where the leaks were coming from.

It’s his team now. Cal has officially bought in to Easterby’s BS.
JE is just carrying out Cal's wishes.

Rootes was part of the needed housecleaning. Unfortunately Cal (like his dad) didn't fully clean house.

I get the housecleaning, but the Texans will continue to be the laughingstock of professional franchises. It begins and ends with Easteby's head directly inside of Cal's backside. Until he is gone, we will continue to be a joke. I truly am disgusted with this franchise.

Disagree,

This kind of crap has been going on long before JE stepped foot on Kirby.

This is all on the McNair family. They have always wanted their franchise run a certain way and JE/Caserio are just the latest to try to build a winner under the constraints the McNairs put them under.

Unfortunately the Texans will never be contenders until those constraints are lifted.

The business side and the football side are two totally separate different operations at do not interfere we each other. One is X and Os. The other is not.
Do you mind sending Cal an e-mail to let him know? Seriously, I don't think he understands this basic separation of church and state.

The Texans morality litmus test appears to apply to everyone getting a check from the organization now.

I wonder if Jack is still conducting his investigation on the SI article. How dare people tell the truth.

Still waiting on the football. That still doesn't look like it's coming around any time soon. And because of the clusterfuck going on there, and with Rootes out on the business side, their marketing program might be about to take a hit too.

And nobody is crying that the sky is falling over Rootes resigning. From what I'm hearing, this is something that's been in the works for a while. The timing of it is just bad with everything else going on with this franchise.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
Rootes has his book where he brags that the Texans have sold out every game despite not putting together a winning product on the field.

How I read this is that the marketing genius doesn’t believe he can market against the public outcry the Texans are facing now.

What public outcry?

What public outcry?
At this point, it's mainly a media outcry and the silent screams of insanity by a small group of rabid fans.

Actual public outcry of average (i.e. casual) fans could start when Deshaun and JJ are shipped off unceremoniously.

I figure the overwhelming majority of folks do not give this franchise anywhere near the same level of scrutiny that us diehards do. We are kinda' nuts that way, much to our own detriment.
