I get questioning sources, but when it comes from people who are actually in the building, not that David Carr is, I mean, you either have to bury your head in the sand, or realize there may be something to what's being said.
I think Carr’s contribution support what the “Easterby is a red herring” guys have been saying.

Carr was never as bad a player as he ended up being viewed as and ended up being at the end, after practically being beaten into failure and being mentally wrecked.

Victim of circumstance. Just like Schaub was much better than he's remembered for due to Albert Haynesworth's dirty ass, historically bad defenses, historical levels of team injuries, etc.

It happens. It stinks.

There was another thread that was partially derailed with David Carr/Charlie Casserly talk that I found very interesting. I personally have a ton of nostalgia for the early years of the Texans and I have to confess I actually liked David Carr and think he's bashed a bit too hard by Texans fans. Sure he had major issues and I'm not going to sit here and say he was great but I seem to still have fond memories, the first touchdowns in the very first game against Dallas, some gutsy performances in some 2003-2004 games as well, remember the overtime shootout against Minnesota in 04? Man that was so good. 2004 seemed to be his peak, there was a run there when we were like 4-2 where he was playing really well, the win over KC, then he kinda fell apart with the rest of the team from there. Remember that time he was suplexed onto his head against Green Bay and then played like **** the rest of the game? Good times.

I thought he was going to be the next Steve Young, sure I was wrong but I seen flashes of real potential at times in his first 3 years. I was honestly actually kinda disappointed when they cut him for Schaub, at the time I thought that was a lateral move, those first 2 years it really kinda was, Schaub stayed hurt most of the time and wasn't that great until his third year. Maybe Kubiak should've given Carr another year in 2007?

Anyways yeah random old school thoughts on my mind tonight.
That Minnesota game you are referring to is where AJ caught a TD pass in the end zone and was hit low and did a flip ? Also does anyone remember AJs first season when we were playing the Bills and he broke through 4 guys trying to tackle him.... Man that dude was a beast.

Well, David Carr has weighed in:

I agree with him. The franchise has been doing goofy things since the beginning and picking David was one of them.
He's right. The old owner had a blind spot for him just like the new owner has a blind spot for Assterby.

I remember that Minnesota game. He took over that game. I wish I could find some highlights of him that game. I think they lost in OT or final possession of 4th.

Does it say something that these clowns are piling on? I mean, I don't give a flying **** about all the regurgitation and piling on, but we're always questioning sources around here. It's one thing to question the validity of something Schefter puts out, as opposed to twitterdufus1857321, but then we get opinions from people who've actually been there and we still have to put some BS spin on it.

Example, Wade Smith and Cecil Shorts had their say about OB, and people here tried to discredit that for all it's worth. Andre Johnson says something, and that's still not good enough for some. I get questioning sources, but when it comes from people who are actually in the building, not that David Carr is, I mean, you either have to bury your head in the sand, or realize there may be something to what's being said.
Yeah, but Deshaun LOVED THEM ALL just a few months ago. . .

Today, I couldn’t be more honored and humbled to sign a long-term deal in Houston, the city that I’ve grown to love so much and now call my home. Thanks to Cal, Janice, the entire McNair family, Coach O’Brien, Jack Easterby and the whole Texans’ organization for helping to make my dream a reality.
~ Deshaun Watson
I'm disappointed and annoyed by BOTH SIDES. Neither the Texans nor Deshaun is without fault.

But in the end, I'm a Houston fan. I won't be a fan of whatever team Watson is able to manipulate his way to.

Meh, he had a piss poor work ethic for a pro athlete, much less a starting QB. He admitted that he was last in/first out, not dedicated to film study or becoming a better QB, and never realized his physical potential because he was weak-minded and did not put football as a high priority for his career. Of course, none of that was helped by playing for an expansion team, so both sides are to blame.

That said, he's utter garbage as a TV analyst.

Yep. It's too bad that the Carr/Texans relationship had soured, because Derek was a steal in the 2nd round.

It still amuses me that we used to argue with Derek on his forum when he was a teenager. I never blamed him for standing up for his brother, but he sure could be snarky about it. lol

Yup. Still think he would have been a fantastic pick at that juncture. Just wish he had a different last name.

I don't blame him for standing up for him either. Must be pretty hard to have someone in your family be the target of scorn of millions of people.

He was kinda savage as a poster but he was smart. Came across as an adult. I really thought he was Roger. If I would have known that was Derek, I would have wanted the Texans to draft him.

The funny thing is that he was the stud varsity QB at Clements back then. He damn sure wasn't doing his homework.

Carr was better than he was able to show here. The Giants staff said he was very good in practice. However, in a real game, the hits he absorbed here took over. Carr honestly has a PTSD type of thing from the hits. We saw flashes of star and then a few plays later he was driven into the turf so hard most QBs would have left the game. Not Carr, tuff SOB is what he did get to show. No QB here has she that side yet and maybe never will.

I hold the organization responsible for the debacle that befell the Carr experiment and what is currently happening with the Watson situation. For whatever reason, this team has either stood pat with shite talent on the OL or failed to identify proper OL talent in the draft.....or failed to hold their OL Coach accountable for the OL's performance. In the end, the two supposed "Franchise QB's" have been beat up playing for this organization. Carr exited an NFL tacking dummy and Watson wants out in an effort to keep his health long enough to see another contract before he suffers the Carr Effect.

In all honesty, everyone involved in this Watson shite-show should be viewed as failures. Watson for going public like HS girl going through a drama segment in life and Cal/Caserio for not getting together with Watson and ironing this situation out behind the scene versus letting it fester publicly.

I would much rather see Watson lead the Texans to the ultimate success but that's going to boil down to his desire to play here and Caserio's ability to make the tough moves to get the cap under control and backing that up with a great draft in 2021.

Watson and the new coaching staff need to sit down and discuss what they'd like to do offensively and give him input into developing an offense that better fits his skill-set. This must happen sooner rather than later so the Texans can develop a plan for trade, cuts, UFA signings, and the draft.

While I agree marginally on the carr portion of your post, I feel like it makes him exempt from failure. No doubt, the Texans needed more ol talent. Also, carr was last in, first out. If he dedicated himself and realized his talent, he would have been far more successful.

I don't mind Watson giving feedback on an offensive scheme, but he shouldn't dictate squat. Just as he had no business in a gm/hc hiring decision.

Giving Watson input into the new offense is just that, input. It could make the offense much better in the long run. Watson dictating what direction the offense should take, crosses the line. Cal and Caserio need to let their sack swell a bit, bring Watson in and remind him that they represent the FO and the folks that cut his checks.....you're the player that signed a contract to play for the Texans. At times, in terms to the offense, you have been here long enough to get some input into the offense. Watson no doubt would have valuable insight since he's the one on the field with these players and the staff should want to hear this. Watson cannot be allowed to dictate things but he could be given some limited input in the offense......beyond that, he is paid to play for the Texans.

I could see the Colts being a big player for Derek Carr if the Raiders really put him on the market. If the offensive line is healthy, their weapons in the running game and with the receiving threats available.....Carr could be in for a really good time.

IMHO. This is much ado about nothing. When Brady joined the Bucs, Arians basically said, "it's easier for one person to learn an offense, instead of changing it for 10 others". So, Brady learned the Bucs offense and as the season went along, they slowly integrated plays he liked or requested into the offense.

Every week, a good OC will review the game plan and based on feedback from his QB will add or delete plays the QB and personnel is comfortable executing. I've seen a HC hire a new OC and have him keep the playbook and terminology, but add his wrinkles and the new OC has to learn the terminology. Other HCs allow the new OC to completely install his playbook.

My point is there is so much crap going on with the Texans, worrying about Watson and the offensive input or lack of is way down the list. I'm more interested in will Fuller be on the team and what they will do about the RB position.

Fuller can be signed on the cheap....maybe a one year deal with the hopes of a healthy, clean, and productive season leading to better contract opportunities in 2022. Re-negotiate Cooks contract (if Watson stays) via extension to help with cap situation.

They can get a RB in the draft. My hope, Trey Sermon (Ohio St) will be on the board when the Texans draft starts. Fournette has played himself into a permenant roll with TB. LeVeon Bell on the other hand will be available and the Texans should pounce since they could easily get him on a one year prove-it type of contract with a second season option.

Watson is NOT Brady. That's the difference here. Brady can learn a system fast (proved it this season) and then offer ideas for the staff to go over. We will have to see if Watson can learn a system fast. Be it here or another city we shall see.

We need to draft a RB. A REAL RB not the 10 carry type. If we go RB by committee, that's fine. Fornette just showed us what a true 3 down RB can do. And then the backup is a shock to the D. I think we should stay away from Bell. He is a problem waiting to happen. Plus, if Watson stays, you then have 2 players who feel like they are bigger than the team. And can go off at any time

What are you talking about? Who compared Watson with Brady? My response was to @OptimisticTexan post regarding input into offenses. Brady had to learn the Bucs offense and his input was considered but not until he learned the Bucs' offense. My point was QB gets input into the plays and game plans but not the offensive philosophy and what Watson wants in the offensive philosophy isn't a priority right now.

And this is why I hope we trade DW$ for Mucho picks and wait until 2022 to get a QB. Use the high picks on talent if it's there or trade down for more. The Texans could be the first team with 17 Losses this year.

Did Tim Kelly get fired and I missed it? Where is this Watson learning a new system stuff coming from if Kelly is still the OC? And what has been out there over the years is that this system takes about 3 years to really get down. If anything, another system would probably be easier to learn.

It wouldn't bother me if the Texans didn't win a game next yr and that goes for whatever team DW4's traded to also.

However with proper coaching I think the current OL is good enough to justify drafting a guy like Wilson and history not repeating itself for a 3rd time.

We can hope. We can win with a lesser QB, a strong D and RB...and a good WR would be nice too.
Get a bunch of picks in a DW4 trade. Get lucky and hit on your QB and use the rest of the picks to rebuild the rest of the team while you're rookie QB is on his rookie deal and that should give you the best chance to contend for a SB title. This is a best case scenario.

Very well said, I can't remember what year it was or specific numbers but one of those years where he set the record for most times sacked he was also one of only 2 or 3 quarterbacks that started all 16 games that year.
