Welcome to Houston David Culley, Head Coach

2021 Generation Geritol--Lets'see, now we have the oldest US president, the oldest head coach in the NFL and possibly the oldest QB Brady playing in the Super Bowl? Also, Easterby is very religious as our new head coach is, so if we go 0 and 16 next year, it's an act of God. Lord have mercy! I better start going to church.

Keep it Movin!
And I'll tell you one thing further. I hope Culley comes in and works to establish a proper culture and attitude, and I hope that he makes strides and builds the foundation. And since he's already 65, I can easily envision them setting McCown to take over for him in the future once he decides to retire.
How can he with Esterbunny running the show?

The more I find out about him, the more I like. People here are upset b/c he’s not the sexy pick, but I don’t believe Caserio felt like he could wait 2 more weeks for the possible hire of EB. Coaching staffs have to be filled out and the longer they waited, the slimmer the pickings in the assistant coaches pool becomes.

I think they got the right guy for what the players sorely need and what they wanted all along; a Uniter ...and a guy whose been around the block. True He’s never been a coordinator but Harbaugh thought enough of him to make him his assistant HC...a position that in theory is supposed to be above a coordinator...take that for what it’s worth.

My first comparison personality speaking but not necessarily in coaching terms, is Dungy who is also a man of faith and understated and even gentle demeanor.
I dunno, but have no clue how DW4 does or will think about the new HC ?
Dungy is a man of faith?

Caldwell is a man of faith?

Pagano is a man of faith?

McDaniels didn’t want any part of them. He hired Eberflus, a man of faith, they kept him because of it.

Reich is a man of faith?

I think we’re Indy South

Cully won't be the oldest HC. Pete Carroll is. 67

not a single person they are talking about bringing aboard this coaching staff was going to get scooped up in the next two weeks...or next six months. Being the last to hire a HC automatically put them behind on assistants so at this point make the right hire and don’t rush to make the wrong one...

So that's how the 5 month search for a HC ends? OK. Don't know anything about the dude, so I'll give him the benefit of doubt, which I guess a lot depends on Watson now, but of the other 6 HC jobs that were open, did he interview for any of them? For that matter, were any of the Texans "finalists" interviewed by anyone else? Did the Texans really interview a bunch of guys that were on no one elses radar? Eh, sounds about right.

It also sounds like Kelly is sticking around, RAC in some capacity, McCown moving to the coaching side, and we're looking at Lovie Smith?

Any song lyrics tweeted by Watson? From "It's Football Time in Houston" perhaps?

A, you don’t know that, B, no such thing as “the right hire”. In 2014 BoB was “the right hire” according to fans. you also do nt know that Culley ISNT “the right hire”.

I think they got what they wanted. A coaches coach. HC shouldn’t be too worried about coaching players or schemes. His job is to make sure the coaches are coaching the players & teaching schemes.

Instead of being on the sidelines calling plays, he’s making sure the process is adhered too but staying relevant to the situation at hand. Kinda like Belichick does.

Wait a minute...

How close is an Asst. Head Coach to a Coordinator? He has been Asst. Head Coach for 3 or 4 years and interviewed in 2014 when BOB was hired. This guy has plenty of experience and could put an offense in like Baltimore ran. Let's give him a chance before we bash him too bad.

The asst head coach tag is used to keep coaches from jumping teams a lot. They give them that title so no other team can hire them away to the same position.

The Texans aren’t 2 years away but you guys probably know better than me. My point is I wouldn’t want to start a rebuild with a 65 year old coach. Most coaches are given 5 years and he’ll be 70 then. However, he might be vegan and that won’t be an issue. :)
I am 74 years. I remember 65 like it was a 1000 years ago. If a guy is in good health, 65 is not old and coaching for 5 years is nothing.

Good Lord, I just read that the Ravens were last in the NFL in passing.
Don't worry. The Texans will run the same offense they've run since 2014. It's all Tim Kelly knows.

Lovie Smith? Tim Kelly? Did you type this with a straight face?

This guy is letting the coordinators coordinate. Culley will focus on "culture".

Easterby = Little Finger/Cal = Fredo Corleone
I was going to say once Culley is fired. But yeah, this a setup for McCown to become HC in a couple of years.
So Culley = Bo Porter???

I like it but what if McCown is the HC equivalent of Osteensterby the Nfl executive? why not pick a pick a good HC when there are good candidates out there?
My god cal is a truly stupid clueless man.

Lol, Pete Carroll, Dungy and Harbaugh are like that too...HC’s who don’t call plays on offense or defense but instead focus on managing the game. It should be noted though that all those guys like that..Belichick, Carroll, Dungy and Harbaugh.....ALL of them have SB rings....

Caserio ought to be fired. I was his BIGGEST supporter coming here, but to hire Colley over EB if it's true, no ******* way! I'm done with this team.

At my age 5 years is an easy lick. At 65 I’d imagine 5 years is a blink of the eye.

Ummm.........don’t know if you know this or not....but coaching staffs consist of more than an OC and a DC....hell you SHOULD know this, you and everyone else on this board bitched about Devlin for years on here...so yes, I typed it with a straight face.

NC is a POS, why not just hire the Jags Laudry guy, could have saved us some $$$.
What the hell did we hire NC for, worthless! I'm absolutely embarrassed!

Going to need to upgrade my 55" TV to maybe hmmmmm.....maybe a 65" or 70" TV to be able to see the new Texan's masterfull run up the middle on 1st down, couple of passes and punt in the 1st Qtr. Kelly playbook of OB leftovers!

Lol, who in the hell knows if EB is going to be a “good HC” and Culley won’t be? And making pronouncements on what kind of job Culley will do before he’s even coached 1 damn practice...lol, some of you guys are ridiculous....and I see it’s about time for me to take another hiatus from this board..
