Welcome to Houston David Culley, Head Coach

Canada Eh
Logged on after god knows how many years to lament how far this team has fallen. God we suck.

I guess I can wait to be pleasantly surprised but this feels like a dark age for Houston sports. Least the Ags don't suck
looks like I’m not the only one. Sheesh.

Well, surprisingly Florio doesn't blame Easterby

The Texans are working toward a deal that will make David Culley their next head coach, according to multiple reports.

Culley remains in Houston after a long day of interviews. Bills defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was the only other candidate who got a second interview with Texans General Manager Nick Caserio and team chairman Cal McNair.

Culley, 65, is a surprise hire to most, but he will become the second minority coach to get a head coaching job this cycle, the first Black coach. The Jets hired Robert Saleh.

The fact that Culley blew away the Texans in his virtual and in-person interviews is not a surprise to all who know him. He served as the assistant head coach for Andy Reid and for John Harbaugh and worked for Bill Cowher in Pittsburgh.

Culley currently is the Ravens’ assistant head coach/passing game coordinator and receivers coach and received a strong endorsement from Harbaugh.

Culley has never served as a coordinator in his 27-year coaching career, which makes him “an outside-the-box” choice as John McClain of the Houston Chronicle put it.

And I'll tell you one thing further. I hope Culley comes in and works to establish a proper culture and attitude, and I hope that he makes strides and builds the foundation. And since he's already 65, I can easily envision them setting McCown to take over for him in the future once he decides to retire.

That wasn't his 1st coaching job. It took him awhile, but he Coached Arizona 1st
Yeah, I loved the hire of Arians. He’s actually pretty funny too. My comment was solely based on age. Arians is only going to be around 2, 3 maybe 4 years. It obviously worked out here as I was not expecting a Super Bowl trip in his second year. He’s says no but if we win he might retire. If that happens it still paid off.

The Texans aren’t 2 years away but you guys probably know better than me. My point is I wouldn’t want to start a rebuild with a 65 year old coach. Most coaches are given 5 years and he’ll be 70 then. However, he might be vegan and that won’t be an issue. :)

Rapoport saying Tim Kelly will be the OC
which if true, he’s only sticking around b/c Watson was likely adamant that he wanted Kelly to be his OC....likely b/c under Kelly, Watson had more control of the offense than he did under BoB.

Culley is also another offensive mind for DW4 and Kelly to bounce things off of seeing he was a Qb in college, passing game coordinator in B-more and he’s familiar with Reid’s offensive concepts.

Solid hire imo, but it will depend largely on who he brings in to run the defense, and his position coaches, especially for the DB’s and o-line.

of course if DW4 still wants out, none of this will matter.

I guess we'll see how this works out, but given the recent Texans sh!t show, I have 0 faith they they've made the right hire.

Oh, and when I find myself agreeing with majority of what Texian and steelbtexan say, the Texans must be in some real deep sh!t...

I’m going to wait.

If 4 is good with this, it was the right hire. If 4 wants to run off to greener pastures... well.

Well, however the new guy (what's his name....) fills out his staff will be interesting. And how they handle one of the league's best QBs, or, a boatload of draft picks, will tell us a lot. You guys know this could go both ways here. Odds are, at least mathematically speaking, we're due for a break.

Yes. O'Brien was a piece of **** that was a power hungry thug from the beginning and fellated by fans and media alike allowing his ego to garner the mass of the sun. And even after his failure after failure after failure after failure still had his sycophants defending him. I'll never understand the heaps of adulation that guy received for literally zero reason and actually actively showed thousands of reasons why he SHOULDN'T.

That guy created a wreck worse than anyone could ever imagine. And we're seeing it play out.

Culley is coming in with none of that. Just the wreck to repair. Which is a tough task.

Easterby = Little Finger/Cal = Fredo Corleone
Cal McNumbnuts, instead of firing fat Travolta, promotes a mediocre HC to GM despite blowing a 24 point lead in the playoffs and NEVER had any experience as a GM.

Cal McNumbnuts heeds the advice of a pseudo preacher who’s NEVER held a personnel position to dole out terrible contracts to players.

Cal McNumbnuts hires a man that has NEVER even been a coordinator or more than a position coach to be the HC.

this move makes perfect sense.

Whereas BoB was a control freak, Without knowing the man, Culley appears to be the direct opposite in that he’s gonna hire his coaches and let those guys coach. I think he’ll be like Pete Carroll as a HC...a motivator ....galvanizer while steering the team in the general direction. It’ll be a player’s team under him.
