* Plays from under center
* 2020
73.5 COMP %3,692 YDS33 TDs3 INTs78 Long196.4 QB rating
He has thrown a small number of what look like wounded ducks so I question the size of his hands. There has been a question about his size but it has been reported he can dunk a basketball with both hands. That should answer any question about his reported 6'3" height and the size of his hands.

If the Texans by chance should trade Watson to the Jets, I would have no problem using the pick 1.2 on Wilson. IMHO there are only 2 QBs with franchise potential in the upcoming draft, Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson. Wilson like Watson wants to play in a WCO system. Very Texans worthy.

As the draft gets closer I expect Zach's draft stock to soar.

So which is it??

I know when Josh Rosen took over as the starter at UCLA they went from..

10-3 the year before him to..
8-5
4-8
6-7

Zach Wilson took over a BYU team that went from..

4-9 the year before him to..
7-6
7-6
11-1

One player of course doesn't necessarily account for an entire team turn around or demise, but we're not exactly seeing a team wanting to point the finger at what the hell went wrong.

Guys over on a Chiefs Board call Wilson the Mormon MaHomes. I've never seen him play so I dunno does he really have that kind of potential ?

What about the reports of his lack of leadership? He's Jay Cutler ish?

What have you heard about his lack of leadership issues?
Steve Young addressed this about Wilson not being a captain. Young said many on the team have been on their 2 year mission and those guys are 24, 25, 26 years old and more mature. Young added this does not reflect negatively on Wilson and that Zach has control and command of the offense.

I've heard comparisons of Wilson being a cross of Mahomes and Rodgers.

He has a great arm and plays a lot like Mahomes.

I only watched 1 game against lesser competition this yr

I'm in on Wilson. There's nothing not to like. First off, he's very athletic. Not Lamar Jackson athletic or even DW4 but definitely Mahomes/Rogers athletic. Perfect footwork -- loved seeing him sprint to a 9 or 10 step drop a couple of times like we've seen Mahomes do a hundred times. Great pocket awareness and slides in the pocket with his feet always positioned to throw the ball. Very good off schedule throwing the ball on the move. Lightning fast release. Good arm strength -- he can zip it when he needs to. Excellent touch -- takes enough off of it when he needs to to throw a catchable ball. Most important - excellent accuracy. The balls where it needs to be most of the time and can get it into a tight window. Absolutely nothing not to like. Seems to me that the only question marks have to be similar to those Mahomes faced concerning his ability to read a pro defense and level of competition. I linked the game against Coastal Carolina below for anyone interested because it was their only loss and he was under heavy pressure for a lot of the game -- seems best to watch a college prospect against their toughest competition. Looked like they went bountygate on him with late hits and hits out of bounce. He showed a lot of toughness. Too much in fact -- he needs to learn to slide and not take as many hits. There's some off the mark throws under pressure you'll see but that's kind of how it goes. He was still very impressive to me in this game (other games I watched, it looked too easy for him). If I'm the Jets or Miami, I keep my picks and take Wilson. Couldn't be happier if we land draft picks and this kid.

Sign me up.
I prefer Wilson to Justin
This Fields kid just doesn't move the needle for me. I don't think he's gonna be very good in the NFL. I watched a show on him when he was a Senior in High School, he didn't look very good there either. Can't remember the name of the show, pretty good though. They follow the 5 star QB's their senior year. The Georgia QB was on it (can't remember his name) and that Rattler kid that is with Oklahoma now were all on it.

If Watson stays with Texans, I’d be fine with drafting Texas A&M QB, Kellen Mond and let him clipboard behind Watson until 2023. Watson’s new contract demands could exceed those of what Mahomes got. The good, his contract still has enough time left to make him just as trade worthy as he is today. This is when the Texans could move him without hitting the cap with his dead money.

As for Mond....2 year development project who has the athletic tangibles and a big, strong arm. Texans could probably land this guy in RD5 unless he blows up his pro day. This isn’t a knock on Mond, but any team who drafts him will have him designated as backup development project. Watson would certainly understand that his possible replacement is in the house.

Mond isn't consistent enough as a thrower of the football (Accuracy) and doesn't appear to be a fast processor either.

If Watson stays....the Texans will need to find another QB and one to start grooming. I think the Texans could re-sign McCarron (cheap), sign Dwayne Haskins (cheap), and draft Mond (PS- 2021). McCarron and Haskins could duke it out for QB2.

Like I mentioned in my prior post.....if not this season then after the 2023 season....Texans are going to need to get serious about moving Watson b/c I just don't see him or his agent taking less money at the conclusion of this current contract.

I'm 100% for keeping Watson but in all reality there is no real reason in keeping him. The Texans are going to be better served by trading him while there's a premium demand on a top QB. After the pile of shite OB and ownership left behind at seasons end....it's a complete 2 to 3 year rebuild or several seasons of muddling in mediocrity.

I would start a serious rebuild with the trenches and work my way out. 2022 or 2023 would be about the right time to grab a QB in the draft. Let the team develop, then grab your QB knowing you'd have him for 5 years before giving him a new contract. The other position players would be easier to keep under contract as long as OB isn't the one handing out their extensions.

Kellen Mond might've played himself into a small bump on NFL scouts radars. He could justify that bump with a big Pro Day which should have more scouts than what was probably expected.

If Watson stays I'll mention it again, Mond may not be a bad RD5 investment knowing he could be "Clipboard Cady" for Watson and McCarron for the next 2 seasons while cleaning his mechanics up. Guy has a power arm with the ability to throw all NFL passes. With Watson and McCarron on board....Mond would be a low cost-high reward type of investment to develop. If he doesn't develop, then the Texans should be in a position to draft a QB in the 2023 NFL Draft with their RD1. If drafts have been handled better, a new rookie QB could be entering a much better situation in 2023 than Carr or Watson did.

How much has Mond improved inthe last 3 yrs?

Sunk cost IMHO

I've got him slated in my Mock as a RD6 pick....that makes him a QB3 or just above a PS QB. I figure if the Texans get Darnold (Jets trade) or Tua (Miami trade) and re-sign McCarron then that makes Mond a nice developmental QB who has a big arm but needs to refine his mechanics. Low risk high reward type of investment.

Mond only played 10 games in 2020 which included their victory over North Carolina in the Orange Bowl. Had he got those games against North Texas, Colorado, and Fresno State in the books.....he was on pace to have a really special 2020 season not to mention a probable 12-1 season.

He's not consistent enough to be a starting NFL QB.

The first thing I read on this kid was from Walterfootball which included this red flag. Take this remark for what it's worth. No one is disputing his football talent.

Here's what I found on Walterfootball, "...On the negative side, they say Wilson comes from a very wealthy family and comes across as an entitled, selfish know-it-all - his parents are a pain to deal with too...".

Criticism of BYU quarterback Zach Wilson misfires, gets blowback
The reaction to the anonymous quote in the Walter Football article was quick and hot.

My compadre Jay Drew worked on a story this past week interviewing more than a dozen people who worked with Wilson. Not one mentioned anything close to the allegations.

One of Wilson’s offensive linemen, Chandon Herring, tweeted: “I played with Zach for several years & have nothing but respect for the dude. He is entitled to nothing and works longer and harder than most to reach his goals. Don’t listen to people who haven’t trained, worked, or played with him to tell you about his character.”

Teammate Kyle Griffitts called it “Click bait, not worth it.”

Wide receiver coach Fesi Sitake added the tweet: “Someone clearly had a plan to damage Zach’s reputation. But as you look around, everyone & their dog is coming to his defense, which only increases his stock & displays his true character. So whoever that random troll is that started this, your plan has backfired. Good job.”

Weber State-bound Corner Canyon receiver Noah Kjar also came to Wilson’s defense, tweeting, “@zachkapono was my QB my freshman year, and he was the biggest example to me. He led our team all the way to the semis with a team that wasn’t nearly as good around him. He made all of us play better. He’s a great leader. These guys don’t know what they’re talking about.”

Current teammate and blocker Connor Pay joined in on Twitter, “Couldn’t be further from the truth. Zach is a great ballplayer, but he’s an even better person.”

BYU’s offensive line coach Eric Mateos, who is in the running for the best staff follow on Twitter, took the sarcastic route and used a clown emoji at the end, posting: “Agree. Zach is very inconsiderate. He would text me after 10 @ night asking me why he didn’t get an under-center snap exchange clean. Can’t believe what a dirtbag he is. It was particularly annoying how interested in Blitz Pick-up he is as well. He should definitely come back.”

Cornerback coach Jernaro Gilford, whose guys go up against Wilson daily, tweeted: “I will second that Zach is one of the most selfish/stingy guys I’ve ever met. I mean I’ve only been asking for 3 years on a daily basis that he throws my guys a INT in practice and he might’ve given in 3xs in 3 years. Just selfish! I hate it in practice and love it in games.”

Reactions here don’t include a train of fan tweets highlighting photos and testimonials of Wilson signing autographs with kids, making appearances in hospitals, going out of his way to meet, greet and spend time with families, spending hours after practices and school signing shirts, posters and autographs requested through the school’s sports information department.

Anonymous sources these days have ruined the news business. From the political to the societal, from academia to frontiers of journalism, it has created an army of weak, spineless, chicken keyboard warrior recreants who hide and fire potty arrows.

Can we please finally stop referencing walterfootball..

Adam Schefter responds to Zach Wilson’s reported character concerns, predicts when he’ll be drafted
“Wow. I mean, first of all, everything you said there just floored me and it floored me because number one, I think he’s gonna be the second quarterback picked, not the third,” Schefter said. “I think he’ll go second. I’ve heard nothing but great things about the guy, and that he got quote unquote “special intangibles.” I hung up the phone, literally before I came on the show, with somebody who was telling me all about him, and it couldn’t have been any further from what you said. I can’t even believe we’re talking about the same guy.”
