Head Coach Candidates

And we already know who that guy is .....

So what are they going to do when he goes to the Chargers?

I wouldn’t at all be opposed to giving Marvin Lewis another shot...matter fact he’s my guy if they go retread. He’s a players coach, he knows how to handle these guys having dealt with and got the most out of the Chad Johnson’s of the world. He’s got a helluva pedigree when it comes to coaching defenses with that 2000 Ravens defense. His defenses also weren’t horrible in Cincy either. He knows defensive talent and he knows how to coach. He unfortunately just had some bad luck in Cincy. 1st in 2005..a season in which they were expected to make it to the AFCCG before Palmer’s knee got shredded...& then with Dalton just not being good enough to get them over the hump. But he still did some really good things there considering where the Bengals franchise was when he was brought on and the owner he had to deal with...

I would absolutely LOVE to bring Lewis here to revamp this defense.

A lot of fans are hung up on the one and done portion of his resume in Cincinnati. My thing is that team in a tough division was very competitive. They made the playoffs a lot, unfortunately they just couldn’t get over the hump. I’m with you, I wouldn’t be mad at all if we were to hire him as the next Texans HC.

The Texans "Search Committee" is one big facade. Korn Ferry is getting paid a load to give legitimacy to the search. And as for the recently added star-studded search cast, Dungy has already come out and stated he is in no way part of the Texans search committee. Every thing that I have found points to Watson and McClain being the sole driving force behind the push for Bieniemy, and Cal creating a an extensive protective cocoon should the GM and/or HC choices go south.

I have been saying that from the start. Cal pretty much probably has called Dungy,as he stated when he said he was not on a committee. And ran a few names past him and his opinion. The whole thing took maybe 5-10min in all likelihood. I can see Cal doing exactly what you're saying. If the GM and HC end up being trash, he can blame the search committee. It's totally stupid to be so dumb. Guess Cal has never looked at a public forum for his team. If he had, he would know that fans are not as dumb as he apparently thinks they are.

I think it is a case of LaDainian Tomlinson and Dennis Franchione.
I looked thru Smith's history, and he's been exposed to a lot of run first football. Offensive lineman in college, learned under the wing of Joe Gibbs when he entered the league, and worked under Mike Munchak when he cut his teeth as a position coach.

When Smith became OC, he committed to Derrick Henry as the centerpoint of the offense. And it worked. In the days of spread offense with 5 WRs, the Titans are playing Hog type smashmouth football. It doesn't matter what the latest offensive fad is. Nobody wants to tackle a 250 lb freight train for 4 quarters.

I just don't think that this type of offense is what benefits the Texans skill set on hand. And smashmouth football falls apart when down a couple of TDs. That's how the Titans will lose (at some point) in the playoffs.

what actually makes a good coach?
What actually makes a good HEAD coach? Being more of leader than a coach or a teacher. You want a guy who is able to make everyone around him better than they are in all phases of their life and in everything they do. You want a HC whose players will run through a brick wall for him.

If (when) the Titans lose in the playoffs , it won't be because their offense isn't good enough or smashmouth football falls apart when you are behind , it'll be because their defense is terrible.

The fact that they were able to win 11 games and the division with that defense says a lot about how good that offense really is.
And its not just Henry .... Tannehill led the league in game winning drives this season with 6.

They also put up more PPG than the Chiefs.

Yeah, amazing how Vrabel isn't that good with defenses. Lucky for us

I didn't want him.
Just hate seeing folks decline to interview with Houston coupled with Houston declining to interview Bienemy and Saleh. Narrows our choices and I do not want McDaniels.

Yea I didn’t want him either, honestly don’t want a DC as a HC but that’s just my personal preference. We had a chance to start righting our wrongs this hiring process and as expected we’re botching it.

There is still a chance this can all be salvaged. I have nothing against Caserio, in fact, I like his experience. However, I am keeping my fingers crossed that he doesn't just elevate one of his Patriots lackeys and instead brings in a HC that has had success without the likes of one Mr Tom Brady.

The plan as laid out by the Texans from the beginning was that they would 1st hire a GM and then the GM would hire the HC.

my speculation is that the 2 candidates folks are touting as the best, Bienemy and Saleh hadn’t been requested for interviews b/c they hadn’t gotten their GM in Caserio yet. They interviewed a few guys with outside chances to be the HC but the big candidates, they wanted to wait until they got their GM.
Now that Caserio has been hired and this HC list is about to “reset”, I fully expect Bienemy and/or Saleh or both to pop up on the HC interview list.

Let's just hope they don't follow that list appearance up with a declined interview message.

Starting to feel like...
