Houston Texans sinking (article)

I'm betting the people they run with don't even know they're associated with the Houston Texans.

They're cashing "McNair Industries" checks, not "Houston Texans" checks.

Not only that but this idea of them being embarrassed is only found in movies and TV. I’ve known lots of rich people, though never been one, and the one thing they all had in common is as long as it doesn’t affect their cash flow they don’t give a damn what anybody thinks of them and they have enough money they don’t have to.

Even if they did sell what in the hell makes you think that a “football mind” would have the money to buy this team. Manning ain’t buying it, Romo ain’t buying it pretty much no football guy has the money to buy it so it’s just going to be second verse same as the first.

I still find it so funny that we get upset because someone is "not qualified" to make the decisions they're being told to make.

I likened him to Sheriff Buford T Justice's son Junior in Smokey and the Bandit. I also joked that Cal with his 44" waistline, his top priorities and primary responsibilities were stocking his Kobe Beef and bottles of Opus One.

That's who was thinking about when I called him Cletus.

“What’s the point of having @&$# you money if you never say @&”% you”

Cal living that Bobby Axelrod life as he should. Too much hand ringing in here over things most don’t have a clue about themselves but think they do.

The Oilers were in 2 AFC championships games by their 20th year (by their 10th year as a member of the NFL). Texans have been to zero.

In your opinion, what's the best way to get there from where we are & how long are we talking?

They're aren't making the playoffs for the 1st time in 5 yrs and are currently sitting at 2-7 so according to this jacka** they need God'ell to tell them who they should hire as the new GM. What in God'ells past actions would tell this jacka** that God'ell would have a clue as who to hire to run the Texans org. More likely being the politician he is God'ell would tell him to hire the most PC person he could find to run the Texans.

What the Texans should do is axe the boardroom style of mgmt and Cal should hire a guy to help him find the right people to run Janice org like Bob McNair did when he hired Dan Reeves which lead to the Kubiak regime. I would reccommend Ozzie Newsome for this position.
You saved me lots of typing.

Best way to get there? Get football people in the building and get coaches who know how to coach. Then get football players on the field that can play.

How long does it take? Good question. It’ll be such a shame to waste the talent of a Deshaun Watson because you can’t get the 1st part right.

So you consider 2 AFC championships, before it had merged with the NFL, in 30 years to be better than the Texans record in 18 years? Ok.
I didn’t mention the AFL championships because I knew those would get dissed, new league and all. But 2 AFC championship games in their overall 19th and 20th seasons (9th and 10th as a member of the NFL), yes, that is still better than what the Texans have done.

So then you consider just appearing in those games, and getting destroyed by the Steelers both games, better? We’ll have to agree to disagree on that.

As opposed to the Texans never reaching that game and still getting destroyed in earlier rounds? You go ahead and disagree all you want.

Actually it was their 18th and19th seasons thanks to Earl

It's AFL as in America Football League. When we merged into the NFL it became the AFC. So in other words they won the equivalent of the SB. From 1961-67 the Oilers were winning alot. After the merger, they made the playoffs multiple times. So, yes they were better than the Texans.

Division championships (9)
AFL Eastern: 1960, 1961, 1962, 1967
AFC Central: 1991, 1993, 2000
AFC South: 2002, 2008
Playoff appearances (23)
AFL: 1960, 1961, 1962, 1967, 1969
NFL: 1978, 1979, 1980, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008, 2017, 2019

You should also point out all-time record under .500 of 447-473-6 including this years 7-3 with a playoff record of 17-21.

we also had to endure back to back 1-13 seasons following 4-9-1 ans 3-10-1 seasons.

Don't make it out something it's not

First yeah I know it was the AFL, it was a mistype.

Second the AFL overall had pretty bad teams compared to the NFL as evident by how badly the NFL beat AFL teams for the first 10 years or so. Saying the AFL championship was on the level of the Super Bowl is like saying the Rose Bowl is on the level of the Super Bowl.

Third if you want to factor in after they became the Titans then that’s a different argument but it was also be completely irrelevant to this conversation as they were no longer the Oilers nor in Houston.

Fourth if, for the sake of argument, you do factor in their record as the Titans then comparatively their record is even worse that the Texans as in 60 years they have had 15 playoff appearances for a 25% appearance ratio. That’s including the AFL years if you only count NFL years it’s 20%. During that time they have had 5 division championships 3 as Oilers and 2 as Titans.

Texans, comparatively, have had 6 playoff appearances in 18 years for a 33% ratio and all 6 of those included a division championship.

So no they have not been better than the Texans.

Also I’ll take any of the McNairs as owners over Bud Adams every day.

Not really "equivalent"

It's the Super Bowl because it's the Champion of the AFL vs the Champion of the NFL. The best against the best.

It would be equivalent to of winning the AFC.
