Houston Texans sinking (article)

Seems that way from the article.
They're aren't making the playoffs for the 1st time in 5 yrs and are currently sitting at 2-7 so according to this jacka** they need God'ell to tell them who they should hire as the new GM. What in God'ells past actions would tell this jacka** that God'ell would have a clue as who to hire to run the Texans org. More likely being the politician he is God'ell would tell him to hire the most PC person he could find to run the Texans.

What the Texans should do is axe the boardroom style of mgmt and Cal should hire a guy to help him find the right people to run Janice org like Bob McNair did when he hired Dan Reeves which lead to the Kubiak regime. I would reccommend Ozzie Newsome for this position.

Ok maybe I’m reading the article wrong, easy to do considering how badly it’s laid out, but I didn’t see anything where the Texans said anything about Goodell. Only quote I saw said:

“Jack would be the first person to tell you he’s not a personnel guy,” Rootes said, according to the Houston Chronicle. “Jack will not be the general manager of the Houston Texans.”

After that it’s just writer bias and him saying the should have Goodell hire their GM for them. Speaking of the author I looked him up and apparently he is president of a an association that covers high school sports?

The New York State Sportswriters Association (NYSSWA) covers high school sports, producing rankings and selecting all-star teams throughout the year.

So all in all I give it about the same standing and credibility as any post made on this forum because it pretty much could have just come from this forum.

The following sentence says pretty much all you need to know about his journalistic prowess

The problem is that the Texans’ fortunes have fallen off a cliff in near-record time. The origin of their decline can be traced to Nov. 23, 1981, when Texans owner Bob McNair died at the age of 81.

Music to my ears. It is this type of constant media reporting that puts pressure on the McNairs to decide it's time to SELL. As to the article, listening to outsiders is what has caused many of the Texans headaches. For all practical purposes Bob Kraft has been the Texans defacto owner and CEO since 2012.

Years ago I said the Texans would be worse off once Cal took over
I believe I called him Cletus back then and was hoping I was wrong.

Deep down you know that anybody that dresses exactly like his dad is obviously going to be worse than his dad but I try to find humor watching him trip over his d!ck.

The Houston Texans boardroom round table brain trust has gone from Bob McNair, Cal McNair, HC and GM to Cal McNair, Jack Easterby, John McClain and Deshaun Watson.
And the last 2 have zero idea of what they are doing. Cal has no idea either, but he is the Owner (by and large). Meaning that Easterby is the only one who has really has done anything to do with team building or working with a HC and GM. A very sad state of events to say the least. Why don't we just make Watson the HC seeing he is playing his own style and the other top brass don't care. And just added a "GM" so to speak for show. And let Cal make the roster moves seeing he has 25% already. It would go:
Watson: Cal I need a better OL and a few other WR.
Cal: Will do. I'll tell Tim the ball bo.. I mean GM to find help in FAs and the draft.
Watson: Thanks bro! Hey how long before I can be a godfather for one of the kids? Just like Rick Smith?

And Easterby is a deacon at best and Cal is a silver spooned philanthropist
It's a fact. McClain is a reporter and Watson is a wet behind the ears 4yr QB.
Man these posts dont bode well for the Texans fuyure. Each one of these guys have their own agendas.

Wins for the most depressing posts of the day.

Cal- Top guy
Easterby- Personal guy from NE OB and Cal snagged when they couldn't get Nick Caserio. Was a scout and then promoted to an office personal job.
Watson- Boytoy of Cal. Gets what he wants till he messes up.
McClain- WTH is he on the list for? Former decent football reporter who is now just getting old.

That's who run the ship. So, how do you feel it will sail/sink?

I’m not ready to say the sky is falling yet. Let’s see who they hire as a GM and HC and then we can see if the sky is falling or if Atlas is done taking a break. This year is a wash anyway so who cares if Watson is calling plays, RAC is calling plays or Toro is calling plays.

Again let’s see who they bring in, you know what they say about broken clocks and blind squirrels.

So you're saying we should give up hope for a SB this year?

I really wish this were an option, but I don't see Cal selling it simply because what else would he do? This is a cash cow that requires very little success to turn a massive annual profit. And he's never achieved anything on his own.

According to Forbes, they have consistently been one of the most valuable franchises in sports since inception, and they earned that value mostly by marketing alone. This franchise has never done anything worthy to deserve it.

I'm not sure it is Cal's call, Janice is still in charge and she has 4 children and more grandchildren who are not sharing in the pie. It is one thing to be a money making cash cow and another thing to be a complete embarrassment and joke to the city of Houston and the rest of the sports world. I hope it's not wishful thinking on my part.

Easterby - Not a personnel guy in New England (or anywhere else). Was not a scout. Hired prior to the Caserio fiasco. In fact, created the Caserio fiasco.
Pretty sure it says scout in the description. But he is also a certified chaplain...not sure how that fits in to his role with any team. Seeing he is listed as personal.

In 2006, he returned to The Palmetto State in the malleable role of character coach for the University of South Carolina's athletic department. He continued to refine this position until 2011, whereupon the Chiefs brought him on board to tailor it further for their organizational needs. As a scout, character coach and semi-chaplin. As he had attended school, after his stint in Jacksonville, seeking to learn more about God.

Considering she has been quite and not rumored to be interested in selling it must be Cal. Also, it is her tie to Bob who even if he was a bad owner, was still a good man and I assume husband

Has there not been issues about the validity of the things on his resume?

Yes, but not about that part. And seems Houston changed it... Didn't see anything about who or why they changed it.

March 2020, an executive with a team other than the Texans pointed out that Easterby’s online bio contends that he served as “assistant to the director of football operations” in Jacksonville in 2004, his first NFL job. We explored at the time the question of whether Easterby actually served in that capacity in Jacksonville. Ultimately, we decided that although questions definitely existed the available evidence, 16 years later, wasn’t sufficiently clear to justify pursuing the matter.

Today, we took a fresh look at Easterby’s bio. And we noticed that something had changed.

The claim that he served as “assistant to the director of football operations” has been removed. In its place, the online bio says that “Easterby gained his first NFL experience in the summer of 2004 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, helping in football operations, scouting and public relations.”

We asked the Texans when and why the change was made. Here’s what the Texans said: “Meaningless oversight in a bio from an entry-level position in Jacksonville 16 years ago. This had no bearing on our decision to hire him. . . . His employment paperwork was accurate with the correct description of his internship.”

A bit different article but explanation of who changed it. But, I'm still confused about him going to seminary school after the Jags job. It's not listed
All I can find is
Jack lettered in both basketball and golf at A.C. Flora High School and Newberry College, where he earned a degree in sports management. He subsequently took seminary classes at Erskine College and Liberty University.

That really doesn't seem very pertinent - to the position, that is. I suppose it would be helpful when applying for a high school assistant coach …. who teaches philosophy, and remedial social studies. Where the heck are all the ex-football guys …. like the Kubiaks or the Staubachs …. or Mathews and Munchak ? I'd trust the last 2 with my life !

Oh no …. I wasn't reacting to your post. I meant it to reference his qualifications …. or more appropriately, the lack of them. I've been thinking the same thought …. it's not - where do you start, but with whom. Eric Bienimi seems to be the consensus choice …. but it's obviously more than just we and the Jets who need a rebirth. I was watching a helluva football game the other night …. most entertaining I've watched in a long time …. I think it went in to like 3 OTs ! I was listening to the quietly calm voice of Herm Edwards …. so brilliantly analytical and so ultra knowledgeable, holding all of this wisdom, but never needing to put in on display ! Really …. it really shocked me …. I had forgotten what a tremendous person Herm is …. in all matter of ways ! It made me ask, of course he doesn't need or want a pressure position like GM …. but who are his disciples ?

I'm betting Janice isn't quite there yet.
Probably not but I'm guessing other children and grandchildren not named Cal are beginning to get a little restless and early yapping like a bunch of yorkies has begun. Continued bad press and more embarrassments will only make the yapping get louder. Eventually Janice says, this was Bob's dream and he's not here to run it anymore. Cal simply cannot manage the organization as well as Bob. It's time to move on and start a new Billion $$$ chapter in the The McNair Family. It's going to take more continued negative press and embarrassments for this to to happen anytime soon.

All I can say is with the people who are picking the GM and HC...we will be very lucky to get either one with any real qualifications. By which I mean one who is well known in righting an NFL team.

Hope I'm wrong

I likened him to Sheriff Buford T Justice's son Junior in Smokey and the Bandit. I also joked that Cal with his 44" waistline, his top priorities and primary responsibilities were stocking his Kobe Beef and bottles of Opus One.

Lol at people thinking the McNairs would sell because of some random jokers the internet that managed to turn their computer on and use a website template to post their opinions and then calling themselves journalists. The Texans are a cash cow, they will keep being a cash cow and 90% of the people that go to the games don’t care that much about what the record is they just want to have a good tailgate, drink lots of overpriced beer and be able to look back on it as a fond memory and there isn’t a damn thing wrong with that.

They’re not going to sell and frankly why should they, they don’t owe us or the city anything. Rockets haven’t delivered a championship in 25 years do they owe the city anything? Took the Astros 50 years and then it was shall we say questionable, do they owe the city anything? Texans have been around less than 20 years and have already done better than the Oilers and you guys are acting they should already have multiple super bowls. I tell you some of you would never make it as lions, Washington, Browns, Bengals, fins, Jets or bunch of other teams fans.

Even if they did sell what in the hell makes you think that a “football mind” would have the money to buy this team. Manning ain’t buying it, Romo ain’t buying it pretty much no football guy has the money to buy it so it’s just going to be second verse same as the first.

I'm betting the people they run with don't even know they're associated with the Houston Texans.

They're cashing "McNair Industries" checks, not "Houston Texans" checks.
