Head Coach Candidates

welsh texan

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
I heard one of the talking heads on the radio say that might be the way to go. Get a good OC, then it's just that OC in Watson's ear. & not the OC & the HC.
Also the D is the real problem with this team, that and the offensive scheme which seems improved even just by showing OB the door.
You get to hire one of the best DC’s in the league as your HC and hope that they can get the most out of what we’ve got on D with the limited draft and cap space we have.

I kinda like no head coach at all, just a defensive and offensive coaches, with the Gm finale say in players who make team. That would be different

What do you think of Dennis Allen, DC for the Saints? Has head coach experience for a lame duck 1.25 seasons in Oakland. Has led the Saints defense for 5 years now, making them a top tier defense. He would be a retread worthy of a second look, considering his first stop was destined to fail.

I would like to bring him in as a DC. Unless he comes in and bring a pretty good offensive minded OC.

If DW4 hadn't played 9 bad games in row BOB would still have a job. This isn't the last HC that will suffer the same fate.
If Watson keeps playing as he has. You are 100% right. Watson has to be better. Is it the system? Is it work ethic? Is it lacks the tools? We will see, because a good HC is not going to just let him walk all over him. Watson is on Cals "good list" and I have a good feeling that no HC will stay over Watson. Meaning, by him being on the committee to pick a GM and HC...it will limit us to some degree. Some are going to think exactly what I just said and not come in for even an interview. And whoever is picked better have a system and tools to help Watson or something is going to break. Either the HC or QB... My bet is that the QB will get Cal's vote until his deal is out.

The lost decade.

Thanks for nothing Cal.

Yeah gents Watson has to put up better numbers than this.

Last 4 games

101/143 1284 yards 11 touchdowns 2 interceptions

Rushing

23/139 0 Touchdowns.

This is unacceptable

He needs to put up Mahomas type numbers.

Passing
97/136 1213 yards 12 touchdowns and 0 interceptions

Rushing
2/0 for zero yards

He doesn’t need a rushing attack or a at least a half decent offensive line. He has to be able to do this all on his own. He doesn’t need a top 10 defense either. His defense can allow 30 points a game because he should lead the offense to 40 per game.

You gents are 1000% accurate here

Curious, whats your source for stats? I'm seeing way more rush yards for mahomes. Also dw has 3 fumbles vs 0.

These are stats from the last 4 games. Patrick only rushed the ball twice for zero yards. He had two games in which he barely threw for 200 yards. It was his improved rushing game and defense that stood out in those games.
What a luxury to have right.

Watson and the Texans don't need none of that. Watson should be able to overcome those type of obstacles. He has to improve.

So now I'm in agreement with the likes of Steel, Corrosion, Maverick and this other member who escapes my mind right now.

I would be another one in agreement Texas. He has to improve or go just like any other player or coach. You don't get free rides. Sadly, it's not going to work that way. Cal will keep him even if he doesn't get better or worse he gets a bit worse.

No, but it would be nice if he'd show improvement. Barely beating the jaguars should not be the bar. I would love to see him do well consistently against the non ubershit teams. 4 years in, you'd expect the same fundamental mistakes not being repeated.

If he hasn’t shown any improvement to you. Then ole buddy you haven’t been watching these games.

What are these fundamental mistakes you speak of. Hmmm are these same mistakes every freaking quarterbacks makes . If you don’t agree, then you’re just hating.

On top of that lil buddy. Would a better offensive line help with these mistakes? Would a better running game help the process out a bit? Better yet would better coaching help move the needle Mr. Expert?

If you're thinking WCO, see if you can persuade Kubiak to take the OC job with an extra title of HC Assistant and a promise of a job similar to Elway with the Broncos in the future.
That way, you can get his offensive line coach, too.
And Kubiak is very experienced with building/rebuilding an offense now.

Then hire a defensive minded HC.

Would that work?
Wade Phillips?? :chef:

Wade Phillips?? :chef:
The only "problem" is Wade would be the oldest HC in the NFL, and therefore not a viable long-term solution.

It may work if the Texans can lure another young star on the rise, Kellen Moore from the Cowboys - solely as an example, and not a must - giving him the title of Special Assistant to the HC (not a lateral move that is prohibited by league rules), with certain milestones as qualifiers for a possible HC gig.

With both Phillips and Kubiak in tow, they can be insurance policy for one another while the young gun is being groomed; not unlike a scenario that I had proposed with young Kyle Shanahan some years ago.

2024 / Rebuilding Block 4 After Playoffs / Texans
I believe Jiim Harbaugh is going to be interesting this off-season. He, like many Michigan coaches just can't compete with Ohio St when it comes to recruiting and it rears its ugly head each and every season on the field. I don't think Michigan would fire him and I don't think they would block him from moving on.

One thing I believe Harbaugh could do, hire a top notch coaching staff. He's a fundamental kind of guy that I believe could coach up the players the Texans decide to keep for 2021. The big question, would Harbaugh be willing to take the position with a GM in place? Would he be willing to work with the GM and making the team better? If he would agree to these terms, I'd be pretty excited to see him arrive and put his stamp on this team. I'd be even more excited if he could convince Mike Singletary to join him......in a RC type of roll.

Michigan could always look at O'Brien...........hahahahahhahahahahahahahah.....damm-it fart with an attitude!!!!

So who is top pick for HC? I am thinking more top candidates will shy away unless assured Watson is not making any call. I think Cal is going to go with an offence minded HC and GM who are not likely to be on our radar. Looking at maybe college OC type

Greg Roman, Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator
The 48-year-old Roman has drawn rave reviews for adapting the Ravens’ offense to Lamar Jackson’s skill-set with the pistol offense and turning Jackson into the one of the league’s best quarterbacks. Roman, who is in his fourth season with the Ravens and second as offensive coordinator, had similar success with the 49ers, getting the most out of Colin Kaepernick when San Francisco made it to the Super Bowl in the 2012 season. Roman was the Texans’ tight ends and quarterbacks coach under Dom Capers from 2002 to 2005.

Brian Daboll, Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator
The 45-year-old Daboll certainly has had some great mentors, winning five Super Bowls in his 11 seasons under Bill Belichick as a Patriots offensive assistant and then a college football national title in his one season as Alabama co-offensive coordinator under Nick Saban. After that Alabama title, Daboll to the job as the Bills’ offensive coordinator and has put together one of the NFL’s strongest offenses, including turning Josh Allen into legitimately impressive quarterback.

And a possible sleeper...

Lincoln Riley, University of Oklahoma head coach
The Sooners are off to a 1-2 start this season, but the 37-year-old Riley is thought to be the top offensive mind in college football. He’s taken Oklahoma to the College Football Playoff in each of his three seasons as head coach and has success with quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Jalen Hurts. Riley was linked to the Dallas Cowboys job last offseason before the Cowboys went with Mike McCarthy.

Man Harbaugh sure has problems with upper management. Not sure McNair wants that or any other NFL or most college teams.

I like Riley and he would be good with DW.
