Frank Zappa once said “Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”

If the Texans continue to make the same mistakes over and over again - i.e. falling in love and hiring a HC before they get a GM - then I do not have much faith in this franchise to ever achieve greatness at any level.

Find the right GM. Let his vision - one that the owners agree with - lead the way in the hiring of the next HC.

Do NOT let the QB pick the coach. Do not let the public, or John McClain, or Jack Easterby, pick the coach.

For once, try it the way that the great organizations have done it. Get rid of the boardroom mentality, shed the consensus rule BS, and end the cycle of letting the HC pick his GM.

It's very simple: Owner > GM > HC > team

Nah, Steel knows dead $ keeps Watson from a trade. That's why he keeps saying 4 more years.
You know what makes that repeated and repeated, "4 more years" so irrelevant? Each and every time he makes that statement, he's saying the Texans have assembled a Super Bowl competing team and somehow failed miserably when they made Watson QB1. So, with Watson leading this NFL juggernaut.....he'll be the sole reason they won't be able to add a Lombardi Trophy to their case at Kirby during this short window. It's stale statement that takes nothing else into consideration.

The players aint never gonna "give up" , they play to win even if they are 0-15 playing against a 15-0 team , they are gonna try to win.

Now the front office ..... they can trade players and put guys on IR ... limiting how good the team can be.

I'm in favor of the latter only because of how bad this situation is.

They lack talent at a host of positions , have no premium draft picks and no cap space , maybe the worst cap situation in the league.

They gotta take those financial lumps now or later .... If you are gonna do it , do it now(<--Click me).
Choices......a really bad 7-8 win team or a really bad 3-4 win team? At least the latter puts the team at a premium point in their draft to either obtain talent or possibly trade back and snatch additional picks. The Texans draft starts in RD3....so their new GM will have to be on his toes in finding any and all ways to optimize the teams picks and assets.

Oh, it's relevant. His contract will be the albatross that will make the Texans org unable to put sufficient talent around DW4 to win a championship even if you thought he was good enough to bring a Lombardi to Kirby, which I dont think he is even if his contract wasn't so toxic. This is going to be a case of history repeating itself, particularly if DW4 gets to start having input on who the McNair's hire and whether guys can be traded or not. When all of this fails in another 4 yrs is when the true housecleaning can truly begin. I already kind of feel sorry for the next GM/HC. The only thing that can change this direction unfortunately is the McNair's selling the team and I dont see that happening in the next 4 yrs.

The draft can be optimized by trading players for draft picks. This isn't a 1 yr fix. But with the glut of good players that are going to hit the FA market this yr it would be wise to dump as much salary as possible so you can add 2 or 3 pieces in FA to help the defense and maybe even trade up into the 2nd to add another starter. The defense would look much better if say they added 2 FA LB's that can run and cover, plus say add a S in the draft. You should be able to find a starting S in the 2nd or 3rd rd that can play right away.

I'm gong to tell you how much better this team will be next season. Coaching is the big issue. However, they will be able to add and subtract players which will give way to the statement: " it is AMAZING how much GM "so and so" and HC "so and so" were able to transform the Texans in one offseason!"

Depends on how much cap space they can cut to bring in more talented players. The talent level isn't good enough and certainly isn't as good as you think it is.

Someone posted the numbers and Watson’s contract has similar numbers through the 4 years of Mahomes’ contract. I believe the team and Watson are in a great place with his contract. When 2022 or 2023 arrive the team and Watson can sit down and create an extension that works for both parties while keeping the team within the parameters of the cap. That extension probably keeps Watson around long enough to hit his 35th to 36th birthday.

I know it won't slow you down. I dont like anyone telling me what I'm supposed to think.
Who told you what to think? And ain’t that being a little flawed there. Because a certain member keeps trying to sway others to think Watson is such a bad quarterback. Thus the reason why he continues to say another 4 years.

powda

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
He can say whatever, however he feels like doing it.
That's the way it works, isn't it?
Why does he has to do it the way you like? :kitten::brando:
Ok, no more joke after that one.

Read the thread. No ones going to tell ME what I should think.

I've never said he's a bad QB.

I said he's an avg QB.

Quit misrepresenting my posts.

This is as good a thread as any to argue, I guess. The novelty of arguing with the same people over the same topics will eventually be extinguished in due time. Or maybe not. I think the Hatfield’s and McCoy’s are still arguing about a fence, or some damned thing.
It was a pig all right! Sheesh no one will kill several people over a fence. Pork chops and chicharones that's worth it.

Why do you have to say it 50 bazillion times? Why do some just have to respond each time even after saying they won't? Some roosters just have to crow.
This is a very simple question to answer.

Because he continues to say that I think DW4's a bad QB and that's just blatantly false. If you posted something and somebody responded with falsehoods I feel quite certain after seeing your posting history over the yrs that you would also respond to said post.

Why not bring in the new head coach now so he can evaluate the talent live and have time to Implement his system. This year is a wash already. Why not give it to the new HC and let him make the most of it he can.
You can not hire a HC or GM until after the team they are currently with is out of the playoffs. Now, I'm not sure if it is a college coach or GM. In that case I guess it's probably different

No you actually said he was S______. And he couldn’t run a pro offense. Not only that but we’re stuck with him for another 4 years. Like it’s a bad thing. Then you had the nerve to say he’s the reason why Obrien was fired.

Everyone on this board knows your true feelings towards Watson. That’s not a misrepresentation at all.
