I love it. Put his a5s on the first thing smoking & finally put someone qualified.... uh, worthy of being a HC in the position. Someone like Jack Easterby, a leader of men.

Fire Tim Kelly too. Let Easterby call plays.
Well okay but somewhere in there you need to give him an Extension or trade him to Arizona.

I approve.

Then when Jack fails to live up to the Patriots legacy........ we fire him and move on from the failed experiment entirely.

Why not bring in the new head coach now so he can evaluate the talent live and have time to Implement his system. This year is a wash already. Why not give it to the new HC and let him make the most of it he can.

If you were an HC candidate, would you want to come in now? I wouldn't. I'd wait for the offseason. As the HC, no good will come out of trying to coach a team during a losing season.

Agreed, if there is one thing the Texans are famous for its firing coaches before they have overstayed their welcome. We need to keep that tradition of demanding success or being shown the door alive.

The Texans are "in the moment" if they plan to start setting the table for 2021 and 2022. The team can ill afford to wait until a GM is named which would be a seasons end at best. The team needs a football mind now to navigate the trade deadline and team's current cap delimma. They need a consultant/mentor to avoid Easterby pulling any of the levers. I still think Bill Polian would be rock solid choice and wouldn't hesitate in checking with Ozzie Newsome, Jr and the Ravens to see if he would like to come to Houston.....in a similar position but with a bit more input right out of the gate. Before anyone points out that the team has hired a head hunter firm to identify a new GM.....I think it makes too much ducking sense to have a Polian or Newsome at the table to vet their candidates versus Cal and Easterby.

How much can they really do the upcoming offseason? Limited picks and no capspace

Frank Zappa once said “Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible.”

If the Texans continue to make the same mistakes over and over again - i.e. falling in love and hiring a HC before they get a GM - then I do not have much faith in this franchise to ever achieve greatness at any level.

Find the right GM. Let his vision - one that the owners agree with - lead the way in the hiring of the next HC.

Do NOT let the QB pick the coach. Do not let the public, or John McClain, or Jack Easterby, pick the coach.

For once, try it the way that the great organizations have done it. Get rid of the boardroom mentality, shed the consensus rule BS, and end the cycle of letting the HC pick his GM.

It's very simple: Owner > GM > HC > team

That doesn't sound like the new flatter organization way to me. Get with the program dude.

How can such a horseshit idea for a thread end up with serious posts in it?
As opposed to a serious idea for a thread with horseshit posts in it?

Are you saying they should give up on the season?

Because he and Chiefs want another SB ring and Cal will honor that.

You never want to give up on a season but making decisions to setup the future is part of the business. The team is in a cap mess, low on talent and a weak position in the draft. This could be addressed now or wait until the off-season where they may be cutting players for no return versus moving them now and at least getting something in return. It's an ugly deck of cards the team has been dealt and they have to find someway to make this better. I just don't see "this team" being a playoff team this season so do you hold on to seasons end and hope for the best?

The players aint never gonna "give up" , they play to win even if they are 0-15 playing against a 15-0 team , they are gonna try to win.

Now the front office ..... they can trade players and put guys on IR ... limiting how good the team can be.

I'm in favor of the latter only because of how bad this situation is.

They lack talent at a host of positions , have no premium draft picks and no cap space , maybe the worst cap situation in the league.

They gotta take those financial lumps now or later .... If you are gonna do it , do it now(<--Click me).
