So, if Watson has a very good game and the Texans win....it was due to the Titans poor defense. If the Texans lose and Watson has a good game....it was due to 1 to 3 throws that completely swayed the game in the Titans favor and Watson really must go if the Texans have any desire to win the SB. Ok, got it......heads you win and tails you lose.
Texans will win.
Nothing else matters. :fans::doot:

This pretty much sums it up. There’s no more blaming Bill O’Brien so it’s all on number 4. Lol

You know there's zero chance McCloughan is hired here. No one else is hiring him, so that should tell you everything you need to know. You're wasting keystrokes bringing him up. Has Wolf ever run a draft? He gets by on name recognition, as far as I can tell.

Nick Martin, Tyron Smith, Jaylin Smith, Dak Prescott, DeMarcus Lawrence, Byron Jones, Maliek Collins, Zeke Elliot, Leighton Vander Esch, Michael Gallup, CeeDee Lamb. I would put the recent Cowboys drafts up against any teams.
I guess you haven't seen the Cowboys defense

They lost 4 starters to FA from a top 10 defense and didn't spend to replace them, choosing to stockpile the offense. A familiar situation to the other Texas team. That's not McClay's decision.
They drafted many defensive player over the last few years including this last draft.

Trystan Hill comes to mind.

After reading the input from everyone posting in this thread about GM candidates, and following up with my own research on the names mentioned, it’s kind of exciting. There’s some really tremendous potential with a lot of these guys. Let’s see what happens and root for some wins this year. It is much more enjoyable to see Watson lining up in the victory formation at the end rthan scrambling around collecting garbage stats or taking sacks as the clock counts down to another loss.

Has he run a draft? NO, but of all the people who've never run a draft, he is the most qualified. Wolf is only 38 years old but has been sitting in every draft day draft room since he was 6 years old. That's 30 years plus. So he probably has a better idea on how to run a draft than some current GMs.

That's exactly my point. The guy's credentials are his father's accomplishments. Not handing over the keys to the franchise to a guy because he was running around a draft room as a tyke.

He’s been running around and performing in a professional capacity within the confines of draft rooms “since” he was a tyke. He’s considered the next up and coming GM with a real eye for talent. I also like the fact that he could bring Alonzo Highsmith with....who also has a good eye for talent and is considered an up and comer.

Lynch surprised a lot of folks with his work in SF.

Eliot's tutelage from his Hall of Fame father aside, he has been an NFL Exec for 16 years. Most of that under Ted Thompson and Bill Belichick just hired him as a consultant. So that does not count for anything because he was a draft room tyke? Belichick, Saban and Manning were all football field tykes.

The Packers passed on Wolf as GM when Thompson stepped down. I'm not going to list the guys that worked under Belichick that failed elsewhere. My fingers would go numb. And let's not forget Wolf's previous job, as the Browns assistant GM. The highest position he's attained, thus far. I'm not placing the blame of the Browns' history of failures on Wolf's shoulders. But, I'm not giving him an "Atta boy!", either.

Nothing on Wolf's resume suggests he's the guy to lead the Texans organization. I don't even know where his expertise lies, and I doubt you do. Now if the next GM wants to bring Wolf in a lower capacity, I have no problem with that. He's just not the top dog.

Still my choice, too.

That’s it, I’m sold on Joe Hortiz now. Ravens front office has now landed

Marcus Peters - 5th rounder
Calais Campbell - 5th rounder
Yannick Ngakoue - 3rd rounder & Cond 5th

Man.....some organizations just know how to get things done.

I feel as though we're back in the days of Bill Peterson or Ed Biles/Chuck Studley/Hugh Campbell

I really hope they make the right choice at GM , it matters just as much , if not more than the guy calling the plays.

If they don't have the right evaluation of the current roster , its going to be a hot mess.

I hope whoever they do hire isn't being hired because they told them what they wanted to hear. "we can win with this cast" .... bla bla bla.

I want the guy who was honest and said .... This teams a mess , lacking talent and in cap hell. It's going to take a lot to fix it but at least we have a QB to start with.

You may say I’m a dreamer but I’m not the only one
Is Ozzie Newsome available? I heard he isn’t technically the GM of the Ravens and may be a legitimate hire.
I’m not too sure how realistic that is as he is listed as Executive Vice President.

I have a stupid question. Does a new GM usually gut the scouting department or do they tend to keep it mostly in place?

I hope most of them go because as bad as our talent evaluation has been over the years it is hard to believe that it is just one or two people to blame.

The few things about O'Brien that did not sit well with me, the blow up with Brady on the sidelines, BOB temper proved to be a problem. Kraft and Belichick shipping him off to Penn St right after the incident. Penn St alumni were not sad to see BOB leave Penn St., in fact they welcomed it. O'Brien was never a head coach. Then like now, because of Houston's reputation, no self respecting winning head coach wants anything to do with a dysfunctional front office. Until the McNair problem is fixed it will more of the same in my opinion.

Let’s not pat ourselves on the back too hard. you were the same guy advocating/saying Bortles was the best an in the draft...over Bridgewater. then you went full on retard with saying Manziel was viable NFL Qb.....b/c he had the biggest hands of all the qbs in his draft....0 for 2 there.

He was also the guy roasting DW4 (yes long before Steel) and then vanished once Watson started tearing up the league. Now he has had some troubles and he came back....

Maybe a silly question but any opinions on hiring Daryl Morey now that he is available for Texans GM? I can't recall of a major sports general manager level move to a different sport.
Morey now admitting an NFL team did contact him to determine his interest in becoming GM. He stated he was not offered a job but his analytics was reason for contact. Said he told them he did not think he knew enough about football and did not want to be interviewed. "I didn't want them to think I was an idiot. It was an intriguing idea."

Looking like Rick Smith is possible to be off the table. Sources are saying he is Falcons bound. Which I can't believe I am saying this but...if up to Cal I won't probably take Smith over many he may be looking at (bad feeling that he is looking at nobody's).

Yesterday 610 played audio of Rick Smith talking with some national guy about the DW4 pick he made with the Texans. Story goes that he had problems moving up to get him but finally was able to strike a deal with Cleveland after KC moved up to take Mahomes. Once he secured the deal he turned to the rest of the front office personnel in the war room and tried to garner support for his pick...a pick that he personally really wanted... but he found no support from anyone...& once he told them about the deal he had in place with Cleveland, no one really wanted any part of it...so he turned to BoB, got BoB on board and once he did that he pulled rank on the rest of those jokers and said he was taking the kid anyway.

So this pic that floated around with him in the draft room all giddy and everyone else seemingly disinterested had some truth to it although folks here tried to make it all about BoB.

Must’ve been a lot of the same type of thinking going on in here with the hoarding of draft capital in the war room. 4 years later, I’d say the draft capital given up was worth it.

The Texans need a miracle worker as their new GM. They have severe problems at these positions-
RB
WR
DE
DT/NT depending on how they want to play it
CB

They have moderate problems here:
TE (they’re liabilities at blocking)
Center
Safety

It’s a huge task for someone to come in with even decent cap space and a full compliment of draft picks to work with; the Texans have neither of those things. The only saving grace in all of this is, really good leaders have the type of ego to be willing to take on a job like this. Some actually thrive on this kind of challenge.

But the biggest obstacle in getting a highly qualified GM here - the McNair’s. Since Bob passed away there has been very little stability within the organization. Out of everything else, that is the highest hurdle to jump.

I think it's that and the power Pastor Jack has within the organization. Doesn't sound like there's too many that want to come in here having to answer to Easterby.

Then there's the fact that there's several GM jobs that are going to be open. Wonder how many have the Texans as their 1st choice? That goes for HCs as well. Gonna be a lot of openings there.

Yeah the right GM can take care of four positions with our third, two fourths and the fifth. I think there are good running backs avail in 5th.

If we could get a starting guard round 3 and CB like Alabama's Jobe round four I'd be very pleased. It can be done, I'm just not optimistic.
Edit: that's what is so aggravating, the hope it could be better then the draft actually occurs...

And when you look at it, there's really not much time between now and the 2021 draft.

This was a pretty bad year to be experimental with your FO, but that's exactly what the McNair's choose to do. In order to "win" the draft in 2021, you either have to have a very experienced front office, or you have to be very, very lucky. Well, as it stands right now the organization should be collecting good luck charms from everywhere.

In case anyone is wondering, James Liipfert is the Texans Director of College Scouting. One guess as to what organization he came from.

Do you think Liipert will continue under new GM? I'm not convinced this scout team is what we need.

Nick Caserio... My top pick and I bet a top 3-5 GM fast. My other is a sleeper and Watson would love it...Doug Williams. Former QB so he knows what he's got to do to help Watson.
Don't you think we need a GM that knows more than just what Dashaun needs? There is another 50 percent of the team. Doug Williams would not be on a list of GMs for me.

If Nick Caserio comes over, Liipert will likely remain. And I’m far from convinced trying to imitate the Patriots is what we need. Unfortunately though, it wouldn’t surprise me if we not only see Caserio here but Josh McDaniels as well.
I would not mind McDaniels, but I know he has a set deal in NE to be HC. He turned down Miami for that reason. And Kraft probably has a very good amount of money on the table for him. Think about it, he was set to take the Miami job and suddenly after a meeting with Kraft...he dumped Miami. Plus, he will have full control in NE. That is not a question, as he has learned from and would be taking over for Hoodie.

6 rings with 1 amazing QB and a few great players and at times not very good. Yet still found a way to win. I don't mind that culture at all. Only question is what HC comes after Nick arrives? Seeing McDaniel is all but out of the picture. I would love to see Harbaugh. That is a no nonsense combo and if they get along...watch out. They would be able to build a great team.

Tom Brady was the culture of the New England Patriots winning teams. Not Nick. Not Josh. Maybe not even Bill Belichick. Look at that team now.

Speaking of culture, supposedly Easterby was going to bring that winning Patriot culture with him from New England. Since he got here this team unraveled quickly.

I'm not interested in experimenting with New England Patriots personnel. Too deep a record of failure once they leave that system; and Tom Brady.

Tom Brady was part of that culture, with Belichick Casserio & all the other pieces that went through that machine.
