I disconnected dish network services last month. I only ever kept it to watch the NFL, but decided it wasn't worth the added expense.

I will just follow the team via this board and google for updates.

No offseason of OTAs and training camp with preseason games to get enticing glimpses of the team combined with everything going on in the world (I work in Medical Computing and I am freaking slammed right now with projects), I'm just totally disconnected from football. This is feeling like strike-shortened asterisk laden season, and it hasn't even started, yet.

And the first game starting at 2:20am on Thursday Night/Friday Morning isn't helping.

I'm not in any fantasy football leagues this year, either. So.

I’m definitely losing interest in all professional sports, will not spend a penny this year. I’ve considered deleting this app also but I really enjoy CloakNNNdagger and his inputs on Covid. I’m shifting more towards local high school and college sports for my entertainment.

I had Direct TV until last year at $153 a month. I have the same thing now for $65 via streaming. If you really want those stations, there are other ways besides Dish and Direct TV. https://tv.youtube.com/welcome/?utm_source=pm&utm_medium=gs&utm_campaign=1006175

'eh, about the same. It's just entertainment, after all. :tv:

I'm actually looking more forward to the Buccaneers this season than the Texans. I'll still tune in, but my expectations are 'meh'.
I'm more interested in rookies around the league than any team. Clyde Edwards-Helaire (my pick for OROY), Burrow, Jeudy, Dobbins, Lamb, Jonathan Taylor (paired up with Mack in Indy!), Chase Young.

There are was to stream games, if you really want to. A legal option for Most of the Texans games is to sign up for CBS All-Access. $5.99 (ads), $11.99 (no ads) and you will access to the local CBS broadcast. Optionally, If you download the AppleTV+ app on your mobile or streaming device...they have a offer if you subscribe to AppleTV ($4.99). You can get CBS all-access (no ads) and Showtime for $10.00 a month together (as long as you keep the $4.99 AppleTV subscription). Also, there is the Locast option. Locast streams local channels (for supported markets) including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox and does it for "Free". They ask for a "Donation" or you will see a Pop-up ad on occasion. It is $5 a month "donation" (they do that for legal reason). www.locast.org. I also use NFL illegal streams for out of market games...lol.

Thank you both, I will look into these options.

I picked about the same, but that’s way down from what it was 3 or 4 years ago. OB has seriously ruined it for me.

I honestly can’t tell you the last time I was pumped for a Texans game. Went to see the Roughnecks play just before they had shut it down, and the excitement level and energy was off the charts. What it used to be for the Texans.

And now, there’s so many unknowns going into this season. No PS games so we haven’t gotten to see with our own eyes any of these guys in action. No scrimmages with other teams so all we have to go on is Texans O vs. Texans D. New playcaller with a whole new set of skill position players. New DC with a unit you can easily make a case did not improve talent wise. We know nothing this year.

So I’d say this might be a more interesting start to a season than any before, but as long as OB is in the house, I just don’t see that excitement level needle moving much.

My interest is about the same. There are many reasons for losing interest but I for one do not find any of them worth losing interest in our team. BO'b makes it hard to maintain my level of interest but the teams changes make me curious to see how they perform. If the defense looks as bad as it did at the end of last season and the offense is as boring and poorly run as it has been since BO'b took over than I will lose interest rather quickly. Still to start this season I am all in and excited to see where we stand. BO'b may be a better head coach this season than in the past. I won't hold by breath in regards to that though.

My give a hoot meter has never been lower ....

OB was bad enough , now add Covid , the world being on fire and questionable roster on both sides of the ball with some really queer personnel decisions , no preseason , no tailgating .... no fans in the seats.

I can't remember a season I was looking forward to less ....

I feel like the best thing that could happen is a total meltdown so we can get rid of King OB.

you save me a lot of writing. I don't watch football for the national anthem, fans in the stands, etc. It is possible this season that O'Brien may drive me away that remains to be seen. crappy crappie play by players may drive me away. That will be during the season but for now I am very excited for this roster. I also believe that many fans need Sports to uplift them during this troubling time. I can turn to other Pursuits but not ready for that quite yet.

I couldn't agree more. But you know what's even more depressing? The people that created this situation in the first place are the same people that have to fix it.
This is a very good point and you look across all of sports you can see the team ownership structures that consistently make good hires and know when to move on from what isn’t working vs the ones that make bad hires, fire coaches without giving them the chance to come good, and let coaches who aren’t performing stay too long (both of which are equally catastrophic).
I can’t bring myself to hope the team fails because it is entertainment at the end of the day and I’m more entertained by a win than a loss. However, despite having explosive talents on this team it is often quite boring to watch under OB.

Serious question: let’s say there is a total meltdown this season. Is that enough to end this? Idk that owner has the gumption to make a change.

I'd like to be excited about the season. I like the makeup of the team the Texans are putting on the field this season.

We have continuity and experience on the offensive line and good depth. We have excellent TE's and quality Receivers. And most exciting for the position - speed. In the backfield we have an excellent pair of RB's who fit our system both running the ball and catching. And we have the QB to take advantage of his weapons and execute the game plan. We are going to have a potent, high scoring, exciting to watch, offense which will be capable of going toe to toe with any team, including the Chiefs.

Defensively, we have a sound front line which will be improved at pressuring the QB, led by Watt and second year player Omenihu, with Dunn holding down the middle. We have our all-pro inside backers McKinney and Cunningham; and outside we have Mercilus and Jacob Martin and last year starter, Scarlett. And we have two rookies, Blacklock, DT, and Greenard, OLB, who have had excellent camps. And we have Cole as a cover inside linebacker. We are going to have a much improved secondary, led by Justin Reid at safety and Bradley Roby at CB and second year player Lonnie Johnson at CB. We added veteran safety Eric Murrey and drafted CB John Reid who impressed during camp. Third year Texan A.J. Moore is outstanding on special teams and after an excellent camp will be the dime backer.

I'd like to be excited about the season. But I'm not. It's going to be interesting to follow the team and the progress they make this year, but the politicization of the NFL and the players have killed the excitement. I'll keep tabs on the Texans, but the rest of the sport is of no interest to me. Politics is killing pro sports. What will be interesting to see is just how deep of a hole the NFL is digging themselves into.

My interest level for football and sports in general have been on a steady decline with exception of basketball (that’s due to the fact that I love the sport of basketball).

That’s been mainly due to my work (on the road a lot then when I am home, I just want to be home.)

This will be the first year I am passing on running a fantasy football league. The Texans interest level has dropped due to just the way this team has been ran. It’s really hard to be interested in a team when you know there no chance with getting to the next level because they not only refuse to make the obvious changes but double down on them.

So BOB gets 1 yr as GM to clean up yrs of bad personnel decisions. You weren't willing to give him a chance in the 1st place. If they were to fire BOB tomorrow would you hold the new GM to the same standard?

BOB the HC is another matter.

For those not Excited about new season does the new Watson contract change your mind?
To me, it doesn’t matter much who the players are. I feel the best will not be gotten out of them with this current regime.

I can only hope that the added 4 years for Watson will have him here longer than OB will be here. Of course, that means something has to happen bad enough for a McNair to make a change. That, of course, makes Watson look like he’s not worth the deal.

The Texans made the decision to remain who they are for the next 4 yrs with both BOB/DW4. Expect more of the same old same old. My question is how long will it take for the Texans to get out from under the guaranteed $$$$ in DW4's deal?

If Watson is a top 5 NFL quarterback should he not make plays in any system if he has the time to throw iquality Receivers and tight ends?

The bridge between stupid and useless is short.
I'll watch like usual and probably participate in the game day thread. I'll be happy when we do something good and pissed when we do something stupid. Likely, I'll be embarrassed at work around other football fans Friday after kc massacres us...

But whatever happens, the feeling wont linger as long as it normally does (3-4 days.) I just dont care as much until OB is gone.

I expect to laugh at ob's run for 2 yards 1st down offense, stupid challenge/non challenge habits, and short bus time management again.

If I'm understanding it right they can cut loose in 2022. But they'll have to make that decision by the fifth day of the 2022 league year in order to not vest the 2023 season guarantees, and will have to eat $35M of his guaranteed 2022 salary.

But again, that's just my read of the early breakdown of the deal.

I'm not understanding the contract.
Here it said DW4 is guaranteed nearly $111M.

In another article, it says $77M.
(Which seems to be the sum of his remaining salary under the rookie contract, the $27M signing bonus, and the $35M salary for 2022.)

My understanding is the first 3 years are fully guaranteed, the remaining years become guaranteed at the start of the year pro prior. So the latter are 'guarantees', they just aren't fully guaranteed from the start.

Still, at the minimum, the Texans will have to hand out the $27M signing bonus this year and the $35M in 2022.

That pretty much tie them up for 2023, and so they will have to hand out the roster bonus for 2023 or take that dead cap (on the signing bonus).

In another word, they can't cut tie with DW4 without taking a lump.

They won't owe him anything in 2023 if they cut ties before the start of the 2022 league year. But yes they'd still be on the hook cap-wise for 2022 as that's fully guaranteed.

By then, they would already be out of $62M (27+35). If they cut him, they basically gave Watsob $62M for not playing a down on the new contract.

I don't see that happening.

The signing bonus isn't tied solely to any one year. It's paid in full already and spread cap-wise over several years. They're technically only on the hook for 5.4M of it for 2022. So they'd pay him 40.4M that year for nothing.

And I'm not advocating it.

I’m probably a little below the same as always vote.

I gave up my season tickets because it was painful to spend all that money for a weekend to see a “Broncos” game type performance. I know the team is gonna lose some at home but to invest all I invest and get that type of game.... just horrible.

I’ll be watching Thursday and hoping for the best. But biting my nails because I’ll be expecting that 51-7 crap.

I just have no faith in OB the coach. I’m excited to see the new offense but it may take a couple of games to get it going. Which the texans don’t have with those first four games...

hoping for the best and I’m like @Mollywhopper I just love football

I thought the Texans can get out of the contract after on 3 yrs with a minimal cap hit.

They're basically locked into DW through 2023.

The first three years ('20-'22) fully guaranteed at signing, then 2023 becomes guaranteed as of the fifth day of the 2022 league year, with the '22 season being a 51.2M dead cap hit should he be cut.
