Pay Roby and Reader unless bidding gets outrageous. Extend at fair market or let them walk: Fairbairn, McCarron, Hyde, Dunn, Fells, Weeks, Cole, Rod Johnson. The rest I let walk. Any capologist commentary concerning where we stand w/ cap space after extending Watson and Tunsil would be appreciated. Anyone know how much cap space is projected?

we still have 2 months to decide?
I expect Watson, Tunsil, and Reader’s agents to take Butt Chin’s dumbass to the wood shed. I doubt they hire anyone of note to replace Olsen. Unless they hire a GM and he brings in his own guy. Other than that, expect Butt Chin to screw the pooch.

My point was that's it's still January... before the SB. When does free agency start?

O'Brien will not be doing the numbers crunching/negotiating.

Outstanding let-goes: Miller, Joseph, Webb, Clark. Outstanding keeps: Reader, Johnson, Hyde, Jones, Weeks.

2020 pipe dream:

- Cut/renegotiate Hargreaves and fuller. Leaves us at $81m.
- Cut Fulton, Kelemente, and Mancz. Should put us around $94m or so.
- Resign Roby, Reader
- Go and get Patrick Peterson (if released) or Chris Harris Jr.
- Sign Leonard Williams to play opposite JJ
- Back up the brinks truck for Matthew Judon or ngakoue
- Robby Anderson as Fuller insurance

obviously you’re only gonna be able to resign your guys and maybe bring in 1 guy on top of that barring drastic changes. If we can get ngakoue or Judon or hell even Dante Fowler I’d be ecstatic. You then can use your 2nd on a RB or a solid #2 receiver in a deep WR draft

Cole injured too much or what is your rationale for letting him go? You wanting to draft a qb or why let McCarron go? Pretty sure I remember hearing that Weeks has never missed a snap was why I was thinking to resign him but I'm sure you could save a little $ there but not sure if it's worth it.

What does Leonard Williams bring that we don't already have? I'm not familiar with him but nothing jumped out looking at his stats. I don't think we let Fuller go. Too much talent to not be patient and hope he gets the injury bug under control imo.

Didn't Williams already sign with Giants?

Exactly. Unlike Fuller, Cole’s not the difference maker that Fuller is to be injured as much as he is.

I think McCarron is just a guy and his skill set doesn’t match DW4’s. I’m Sure there’s a better and cheaper fit we can find.

McCarron's skillset is closer to what BOB really wants his offense to look like.

I would love for them to sign Judon, I would pay big $$$$ for him. The Ravens are going to do what it takes to bring him back.

The edge most likely to be available is Quinn. What do you think about adding Quinn? He was very productive last yr.

He’s another good and cheap option as a 3-4 DE. I think we can get him on a 1 or 2 year prove it deal like we did with Roby. I’d love Chris Jones, but I don’t think we’ll prioritize a big name on the DL that isn’t an edge guy over a solid guy in the secondary

Not even sure how it’s a conversation about Fuller. Only comment I’d add is that it is possible to design an offence that works without Fuller in this league so why can’t OB design one for us when Fuller is out.

Stills has speed (not to the same extent) so it isn’t like you shouldn’t be able to employ similar concepts.

On the DL Omenihu-Reader-Watt should be something the front office works to keep together. We know the rotation behind has been solid due to great coaching.

If Omenihu progresses like he should, we retain Reader, and Watt stays healthy then we are going to be fine up front.

We've already got a poor mans Chris Jones in Reader who is much more of fit for our budget than Jones is.

I thought about Judon, but i think he'll want to go back to Baltimore to finish what they started last year; plus i think he'll be too expensive. From what i understand, Quinn is awful against the run & we don't need anymore of that on the defense...especially if we wind up losing Reader. I'd like for them to take a look at Bud Dupree...or maybe Shaq Lawson.

lotta if right there.

It's not me, but as I said before, I would fill this team with vet mercenaries. Alot of players at 30 or a little older who can still play. I would give them 2 or 3 yr deals, real money, short term. So I'm getting either Suh or Gerald McCoy depending on if they're staying in 3-4 or 4-3 is next.

Lining up watt reader suh sounds good but in a 3-4 we'd get murdered in run defense. Watt and Suh are free lancers and not gap sound.

Watt and Suh as dt's in a 4-3 front might be amazing.

You’re asking why OB can’t design a decent offense? Join the club lol. And I’m saying cut fuller if and only if you can get Robby Anderson (who will command around 8-10 million a year give or take) or another guy who can stretch the field.

Usually I’d say it wouldn’t be a question that fuller is safe but with his injury issues we may have to make tough calls on guys like him in order to improve the roster in FA and retain our guys

ive seen hurts’ stock fly all over the place from first to fifth round. He won’t be there late day 2 early day 3 but if he is I’d snatch him up in a heartbeat as a backup QB/Taysom Hill weapon. Dude is a freak athlete and I think is a much better thrower than ppl give him credit for. Was a powerlifting champion here in houston at channelview HS.

So Anger is signed already. If Fairbairn is resigned (Texans should resign imo) then Weeks has to be resigned. Dude is money and Fairbairn needs all the mental help he can get. Those three should stay together for the next couple of years. Weeks ain't gonna break the bank.

Agreed …. You just don't screw with special teams when they are working as intended.

Cut corners somewhere else …. Its really not worth it to pinch pennies and mess with your kicker.

Man , I don't want to give up on Fuller just yet. Dude is a game changer when he's on the field.

You just gotta figure out how to solve his hamstring problems …. it may be something simple that could be fixed with a good yoga instructor and proper stretching.

You don't have to extend him …. but use this year to solve the problem - if not , let him walk next season.

I also think it’s too early to give up on Fuller. Remember, this was his first season back from ACL repair. It’s important to note that rehab isn’t the same as training. Guys that are as fast as Fuller can produce tremendous forces on their bodies. Clearly his muscles/tendons weren‘t ready to handle the rigors of a season. In a perfect world you’d rehab to regain normal function (which takes time) then you’d have time to train to re-build strength/speed/conditioning. Peterson came back very quickly from an ACL but he’s probably an exception. Plus, although he’s also quite fast, RBs spend much of the run juking, cutting, setting up blocks ect., not sprinting at peak velocity like a WR does on deep routes.

As a side note, yoga/stretching isn’t the answer for muscle injuries in sprinters. Muscles tear because a force was place on them that exceeds their tolerance and tissues tear as a result. Looking at the paragraph above, I’d be willing to bet due to his rehab from the ACL injury Fuller couldn’t have invested the normal amount of time to really train and properly condition his body. As muscles fatigue they cannot produce or tolerate the same forces and they become more apt to get injured

Talent wise fuller is a high end WR2/Low end WR1. I agree has all the talent in the world. I’m just saying, if you have the opportunity to bring in Robby Anderson, who is essentially the same player fuller is (ran .01 difference in 40 at the combine) without the injury history, I think you do that. Maybe you could even trade fuller to a rebuilding team like Miami for a 2nd who is willing to take on the risk for a potentially elite player if they feel what they’re getting is better than what could be drafted at the position, or even a contender like Pittsburgh or New England who need a field stretcher and weapons for their QB’s. You save the cap and you restock on picks for young talent.

My fear is when fuller goes down and you don’t have that burner to stretch the field the rest of the offense suffers and hopkins can’t be a one man wrecking crew forever

Robby Anderson didn't attend the combine... he ran.04 slower at his pro day than Fuller's 4.32 at the combine

John Hightower is the guy you're looking for in this draft to cover for WFV's injuries. Burner speed and a pretty good route runner too. He's slight though.

You can probably get him with the Miami 4th.

Texans need to make the 4-3 Defense their new alignment for 2020.

I might be wrong but I think Taysom Hill is an UFA this season. He might be ready to move on from the Saints where he’s a QB3. Texans could use a guy like this as Watson’s backup.

Tampa Bay was #1 vs the run this year with Suh and those guys. Thing is, with Suh and Watt you could be scheme tolerant. You could line up Watt, Reader,Suh, and Merciless as the front in 4-3 or Watt, Reader, Suh in a 3-4. They could upgrade Brennan Scarlett spot in the 3-4 or in a 4-3 get a Vet mlb, move Mckinney to strong and Cunningham to will.

Who will?
Can't tell you positively, but they will certainly find someone to do so. From what I'm hearing, Olsen’s assistant/right hand man, football administration coordinator Kevin Krajcovic, is likely the person who will now work with O’Brien and his team to manage the salary cap. If they don't have a permanent appointment for that function by then, if Cesario comes in right after the Draft, he will chose the position.

Why was Olsen released ? Did he clash with O'Brien ?

Why are they always just promoting the assistant?

I just find it hard to believe that the assistant will be an improvement. Crazy strategy

Hill is much more than a backup Quarterback. He’s going to get paid handsomely by someone. He’s extremely valuable. I think the Saints capologist (a position the Texans don’t have anymore) will find a creative way to keep him in NOLA. He is a RFA. I expect the Saints to sign him to a first round tender (4.5 million).

Obviously ownership likes continuity. See: the Gaine hire

Unfortunately this mentality bleeds down to the coaching staff.

I agree with you on this complaint about the Texans org.

I really like this idea.

Then draft a CB and a S plus a coverage LB and the defense will look alot better..

I really liked what I saw from Lenoir-Rhyne's Kyle Digger. Big fast guy that can play Nicole LB and single high saftey. I liked how he was able to cover the TE well yesterday. Guys a stud and would be my pick in the 2nd Rd.
