Watson’s a top 5 qb. Do you agree?

After watching this season progress, for me its Mahones, Wilson, Brees, Watson, Jackson.

NO …. to get rid of Obrien , otherwise we're likely 9-7 / 10-6 every year and OB isn't going anywhere under those circumstances.

The fact is that as long as OB is the coach , this team is going nowhere fast.

Getting rid of Watson because of OBrien is stupidity to the 10th power. Anyone who condones that should question their ability to utilize cognitive decision making and would probably benefit from talking with a mental health expert.

I refuse to argue with anyone anymore about Watson. I truly believe he could be our future and lead us to a Super Bowl, but our coaching staff and defensive woes are holding him back.

In that order? Jackson should easily be top 3. Also, leaving Aaron Rodgers out of the top 5 is suspicious. I would take Rodgers over Russell Wilson any day of the week.

Suspicious? He wasn't better than any of those QB's listed this season. He also ran his HC off and isn't known as the best leader to a lot of his ex teammates. Talent isn't what makes a QB great. Its just one proponent.

How is defense holding Watson back? Even if they were trash this season (They weren't) that doesn't stop Watson from being able to play well on his side of the ball. There were plenty of games where the Texans got key stops when Watson wasn't moving the ball for a while as well.

Not gonna argue with you on this one. When it comes to ranking players in any sport it's always a matter of opinion. Agree to disagree.

Whether you want to agree with me on this or not, when one side of the ball doesn't hold up their end of the deal, it brings down everyone else on the other side of the ball.

So explain how the Texans defense didn't hold up their end of the ball all season long? There were plenty of games where the Texans offense didn't hold up on their end, so one could just as easily make the case that Watson at times wasn't hold up on his (Ravens, Broncos). There were plenty of games like the Titans where the defense got several key stops at the end to win the game and in others. Regardless, how does that stop Watson from performing? The Texans defense lost Watt this season and didn't even have the best personnel all year with quite a few new guys around the secondary . Are you trying to equate one playoff game to make a suggestion about the defense for an entire season?

Fair enough to call it opinion, but why call it suspicious? Those players that were listed had very good seasons for their respective teams. Its not like he added someone like Derek Carr in that list.

Personally I thought maybe it was a biased opinion, maybe he is a closet Seahawks fan. Like I say, its strictly a matter of opinion, but I doubt maybe people would put Wilson in the top 5 QBs in the league.... definitely top 10.

You're quoting the wrong response.

I used the term suspicious very lightly. I just thought it was biased. Suspiciously biased. Could be wrong.

Biased how? Wilson is a two time SB guy and won one already. He puts up great numbers every season on teams that aren't littered with talent like Mahomes or Brees. Put Watson or Wilson on the Chiefs and their numbers are a lot better. Wilson performed better than Mahomes did in the regular season this year with less talent.

All valid points. I just don't think that merits top 5. If you told me to pick a QB to head my team for 1 year, Wilson would not be in my top 5.

*goes to the playoffs every season since being drafted practically
*2 SB appearences
*Very good numbers every season
*Doesn't have elite weapons at receiver
*Most efficient scrambling QB the league has ever had
*Great leader on and off the field

I mean name 5 QB's over the last 5 years that have been consistently better. I'd just like to see who you think has been.

He was talking RIGHT NOW....otherwise he would not have put Watson, Jackson, Mahomes in his list. If we are talking the last 5 years consistently, then yes, Wilson is top 5. But of the QBs he mentioned, only 2 have been playing for the last 5 years.

You can't put Jackson above Wilson right now. Not because of one season. The league has shown us that one great season for a young QB means literally zilch until you see them to it 3 times. These QB's look great one year, and average the next in their first 5 years. A lot of them any way. Carson Wentz has never been the same. RG3 won ROTY and fell part. Dak still hasn't been as good as his rookie year. Luck took a step or two back from his 3rd season once injuries started hitting him. Baker had a solid rookie season and was horrible this year. Cam Newton was good every other year when he entered the league until he finally fell off all together, but at one point he was also the MVP for one outrageous season. Jackson still has a lot more to prove.

Mahomes may look better and have the better arm, but he's also had a flurry of weapons like no other QB we've ever seen have as a first time starter. Even Manning didn't have that much talent right away with the Colts. Mahomes won't be putting up those same numbers in a few years when his salary is taking up a ton of their salary cap. Right now he is loaded with weapons everywhere. Wilson has never had that luxury on offense, and has gradually gotten better and better as a passer. And again, even this season he performed as good or even better than Mahomes numbers wise with way less talent.

You are getting a little too carried away with this. We gave our opinions. I think that should be good for now.

How am I getting carried away? I brought up bullet points to make an argument for Wilson and also provided multiple examples for why one season doesn't put anyone in the conversation of elite over guys that do it almost every season.

You claimed that a guy who has had one stellar season is better than him right now, and called it suspicious for him to be even mentioned in the top 5 earlier to start off this conversation.

It seems to me that you're just having a difficult time holding up that opinion after looking at the facts. Wilson has like 7 years of strong consistency now.

I am not having a hard time.... I just don't feel like firing off opinionated paragraphs right now as I am busy with other stuff.... may revisit later.

I'm just trying to see why Russell Wilson isn't up to par to you?

Where is he not measuring up after all of these years of consistency?

And that's the whole conundrum …. you aren't going anywhere with this coaching staff and you aren't getting rid of this coaching staff as long as Watson is here to will them to a 9+ win season.

So … would you give up Watson and start over if it meant a new staff or do you prefer the status quo for the next decade ?

Why give up Watson and start over? I want to keep Watson and get a new head coach and improve our defence.

Actually I disagree. How do you figure we aren’t getting rid of this coaching staff with 9 wins? You think 9-7 and a 2nd or 3rd place finish in the division is enough for BOB to keep his job??

No.

How do you know if starting over with a new staff wouldn‘t lead to something worse? And how do you know that the current status quo wouldn’t eventually lead to getting to the next level?

The answer to both of those questions is the same. You don’t.

I would give up Watson and Nuk if it meant getting back the draft picks we lost in getting Watson and Tunsil. But only if it also comes with all new coaches and front office. That’s how unhappy I am about the situation the Texans are in.

Lol that’s basically our offense. Dang it boy

To clarify, I’d keep Tunsil. I just want the picks back.

Watson and Nuk are being wasted here with O’Brien. At least I can get rid of O’Brien and have the resources to rebuild.

Basically, I’m trading Nuk, Watson and O’Brien for 3 first round picks, a 2nd and I keep Tunsil.

You must not have been paying attention the last 18 years …. It takes a catastrophe for this franchise to make a change.

No , I don't think 9-7 and missing the payoffs gets this coach fired. Hell it might get him an extension ….

Last year they get punked at home in the opening round of the playoffs , they don't fire him , he's not even on the proverbial hot seat , he's now the GM too.

This year he gets downright embarrassed , gives up a 24-0 lead in a divisional playoff game , his offense puts up a hot 17 points , the defense gives up 7 straight TD drives and …. crickets , aside from McClain telling us "Its Not Happening."

It took 2-14 for the Texans to move on from Kubiak …. it'll take something similar to get rid of OB.

No.

Honestly you don't know if a new regime is going to do any better but …. 6 years in , its pretty darn obvious that this one isn't capable of anything more than mediocrity.
Same mistakes year after year …. with a few new ones thrown in for good measure.

We've been shown for 6 years what this guy is capable of and it tops out at getting trounced in the divisional round. If you are content with the status quo , maybe a wildcard win and then getting sent home …. I can understand your disagreement.

To me , this team has a lot more potential than that and OB isn't getting it out of them.

If you read the entire thread you’d see that JB made your exact point already and I agreed with him and you wouldn’t have wasted your time writing all this.

I haven't been on yet today , always start by responding to quotes ….

Several teams have tried and looks to be successful. The 49ers are in the Super Bowl as we speak.

Agreed this team has a lot of talent. Unfortunately our coaching staff sucks

You could say that about anything in life.

You make projections and speculate based on patterns of history where you can make sound predictions on what to expect. The Texans haven't been hard to predict at all.

Depends on how good you think DW4 is.

Most fans see him as a good not great QB around the league. My friend in Vegas hangs out at the books and this is what other fans think. You can now begin to kill the messenger. Can DW4 get better? Sure Will he get better? He will have to change the way he has played all of his life.

In a heartbeat

Bwhahaha too funny

He is. Just at this present moment, he is not in my top 5.

You are entitled to your opinion, of course. But I feel compelled to point out that it is very possible that Wilson finishes second in MVP to Lamar Jackson and it's a virtual lock that he finishes as the second best vote getter at QB. Wilson was performing well enough to be the front runner for the award for much of the season, and he didn't fall off. Jackson just took over and beat Wilson to the award.

Wilson is a top 2 QB this season. Say what you want about his career (I'm with Tex on this one), but any argument that he's not top 5 THIS SEASON is fixing to get shot down by MVP votes.

Look. I, and everyone else understands the ‘conundrum’. Keep Watson around and the situation would never change. WE GET THAT!

But the second part is where you’re going off the deep end. It’s just a hypothetical that wouldn’t ever happen and it’s just silly, in my opinion.
