I posted this in another thread. If you like Russel Wilson as a QB and consider him top 5, Watson has to be in the discussion for top 6.

I find even even the slightest notion of trading Watson to be the most asinine, idiotic, outrageously stupid thing ever mentioned in this place, unless it’s just someone's idea of a sick joke.
Why do you guys want the QB position unsettled again? This just blows my my mind. We finally, finally, finally, finally get the QB that’s good enough to take us there, so why even entertain trade talk?

Simple question....do you see Watson leading the Texans to the AFCCG much less the SB with OB and his staff at the helm?
If your answer was no, then someone has to go. I believe Cal is under the impression he can't do this without OB.

That is a complex question. In short, no, I do not think that Watson will lead us to an AFC Championship, but not because of his talent. There are way too many factors. The state of our entire franchise is in shambles right now. Not only BOB, but the front office, coaching staff, defense, etc. all need to be rebuilt, and by the time that happens, Watson will be an afterthought. None of this falls on Watson though. He is just in the wrong place, wrong time right now.
Then someone has to go? Trading him away helps the situation? How? What does that accomplish?
So trading him away, and making the position again a question mark accomplishes what exactly?

What? Where did I say I would trade him away? I definitely do NOT want to trade him away. My point was that I do not think any QB would be successful under our current circumstances.
Stop and think for a minute. Assuming you’re correct that BOB isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Let’s just assume, for the sake of argument it’s a fact. Well, BOB just announced yesterday that he fully intends on keeping Watson here for the rest of his career, and pay him accordingly.
So since the idea, or even the thought, of trading Watson is never going to happen, I’m interested in what other options you might have. I’m all ears.

OB isn't going anywhere since he's talking about keeping and signing Watson for the long term. See, I really like Watson but OB will be in charge of the second regime to destroy a RD1 QB in the Texans short history. I would like to see what Watson could do in the NFL with a different organization.
It's the off season and a message board. It's not like Cal is reading these posts and thinking maybe we're on to something.
Personally, I'd give two 1sts and two 2nds for someone to take OB off our hands. Just a bunch of thought exercises.

DW4 needs to make a career decision
I would much more blame on who coaches Watson's side of the ball than Watson himself. Mahomes has a coach who actually understands how to attack an defense, Watson doesn't.

because it allows building team with 3-5 starters and allows OBrien to bring in QB that he wants and believes fits his system. Another benefit is if he convinces CAL he could get to SB with "his guy" and then doesn't it hurts him. Too many of us keep
and saying here's the problem but nothing get fixed. OB is not leaving--ask Greg Olsen--if Watson remains we keep ending up same place. A +B = C unless A or B changes.

I think you miss the point here …. Its not about OB having the QB he wants , its about us having the coach we want. One that can take us to a Super Bowl - OB isn't that guy.

But to answer your question, he ain't good enough and is nowhere in the same class as Mahomes is as a QB. Mahomes is a rare gifted player.
