Texan's Playoff Scenarios

Win at least 1 of the last 2 and we win the AFC South and host a wild card game is my understanding. The only way we're not in according to ESPN playoff machine is if we lose the last 2 and both Pittsburgh and Tennessee win the last 2. If we lose the last 2 and Tennessee wins the last 2, we play away in the Wild Card game instead of at home if Pittsburgh loses at least 1 of the next 2. Anyone have something different?

Based on how the other division leaders are playing in the AFC, I don't see us any higher than the 4th seed when it is all said and done. KC is still playing for an outside shot at a bye while NE is trying to keep their bye. Baltimore does not look like it is losing any steam in December. It would be nice for New Orleans to take care of Indy and Tennessee as they are still trying to fight for the top seed.

It's possible the Chiefs lose one of the next 2 (@ Bears / vs. Chargers) Texans win next two, that scenario would give the Texans the 3 seed. Possible, yes.
The Steelers have the Jets then the Ravens. If the Texans stay at the 4 seed that WC game should be the Steelers or Titans I would think.

Doesn't the #4 seed play the #5 seed first game? Right now would be Buffalo... tough game

Just trying to get your stance... Josh Allen is having a coming-out party, and playing well - that is your take?

Unless I'm missing something Watson is having a better year than Allen in every statistical category for a QB, but pretty much all you do is trash him (a little hyperbole, since you do say he makes plays) for every mistake. Would you take Allen over Watson?

And don't try and lump me in with the 'Watson can do no wrong' club I see plenty of mistakes and things he needs to work on. I just don't think after less than 3 years worth of starts we should declare him the final product and move on.

It looks like the week 17 game will have some importance. It depends how much you value getting the 3rd seed.

If you want the Texans to use week 17 as a "bye week", then it would actually be better for the Texans to lose against TB and hope the Saints beat the Titans.

I'd personally go for the 3rd seed. I'd rather face the Pats in the 2nd round. And of all the teams in the AFC playoffs, I think the Chiefs have the best shot at upsetting the Ravens. That means the Texans would host the Chiefs in the AFCCG. This would be our ideal route to a SB. 4th seed would mean Ravens in Baltimore, then my guess the Chiefs in KC. ALOT tougher path.

According to the Playoff machine, if the Saints beat the Titans then we can treat week 17 as a bye week no matter what. Am I missing something?

About a 80% chance that the Texans will play the Bills in Houston the wild card week. I see disaster written all over it.

I mentioned this earlier, but I feel OB is only after the division title. If he cared about seeding, then he would have prepared better against the Ravens and Broncos.

I said this in the takeaway thread. I’m surprised the most knowledgeable fans didn’t pick up on this as well.

We need to establish some momentum, get hot and win out. Teams that seem to catch fire at the right time, tends to play well in the playoffs.

Yet we looked fantastic against the Patriots and pretty dang good against the Chiefs.
We had letdowns after both of those "big" wins (one a divisional loss). The Ravens were simply a better team.

I think the team needs to find a steadier keel altogether.

Saints would also have to win tonight. The Colts are still in it if they win out. So losing to Tampa, and the Colts winning out would force the Texans to have to win the Titan game or risk being eliminated from the playoffs entirely, dependent on what Pittsburgh does.

Big game tonight. Go Saints!!!

I'm absolutely in shock that we are talking about the Texans possibly wrapping up the AFC South title in week 16. This far exceeded my expectations for this season. I'm quite pleased that they somehow salvaged a winning season after all that has happened. That being said, I have absolutely no confidence in anything that the defense does except to be unpredictable. Just when you think they will get things together they go and lose games that they shouldn't. And then, just when you think that they will get their @sses handed to them they go and beat a good team.

When have I trashed him? All I've said is he's to inconsistent to win a championship and I wonder since his lack of progress even though the offense has been changed to better suit his skillset if he ever will be a championship level QB.

You say you want to see more than 3 yrs and I truly respect this. How many yrs will it take before you start to have doubts. 5? maybe 10?

Slightly different take - by your criteria there would have been some pretty good QB’s cut after their third year who went on to have nice careers. (HOF nice)

Do you want Watson to be your Drew Bree’s? San Diego didn’t think you could win a SB with Bree’s so moved on to Rivers. How did that work out for them?

Said ‘trash’ him partially tongue-in-cheek, and admitted as much in my post with my hyperbole comment. But since you mention it, I believe you have called him stupid, unable to run the EP system, not developing at the super sonic pace you would like etc. etc. ad nauseam. What would you call that, constructive criticism?

I would like to see at least his fourth year preferably with a different coach, at a minimum with an actual OC. I agree with you on one thing BOB and Watson are not a good match. Both are inconsistent, so together they are inconsistent x2 which looks horrible at times. However, one is in year three of his career and at times shows absolute greatness, the other, decades as a coach, 6 years as our head coach and we cheer like wild men when he manages to not waste a timeout because it’s “progress”.

I don’t hate Bob, think he’s a good man that’s awesome with his son... and actually think he could be a great HC. his downfall in my opinion is his ego, hire a damn OC, stop trying to micro manage everything, find a GM you can work with, hold people accountable (I’m looking at you Mike Dellin) and focus on leading the team which he seems to excel at.

Thanks for the well thought out post that addressed nothing and managed to say less than nothing.
Oh it says plenty and will be quite prophetic.

I will point this out when it happens by asking is yr 5 the right yr to start asking these questions.

Blah blah blah nothing useful or worth engaging. If you would have bothered to even read my post you would know how many years, I gave and my opinion.

You just pick Steelb reply post number 7 to get that post count up and move on. I’ll go back to not engaging you because it is pointless, you just troll with your normal responses. I could provide links to post that back up my arguments, but I don’t know how to post a link ;p

To the mods if this gets removed and earns me a naughty point - worth it! Might have drunk too much tonight.

Sorry you feel this way.

But you dont have to read my opinions. Particularly if the fact that I dont think DW4 is a championship QB makes you feel this way.

Nah... I apologize, for the most part you seem to be a good dude, just highly repetitive at times, which I let get to me.

I’m still drinking... so... before this turns into a “I love you man” beer commercial, I’m going on read only mode.

Hope you have a good night!

Saints are putting Indy away. They are done. If we take care of business Saturday against the Bucs we have a strong shot at wrapping up the division. I don't see the Tennessee beating the Saints.

Nothing else matters if the Texans win 1 more. Titans can beat the Saints all they want, if Texans win Saturday, division race is over.

Colts 15 minutes from elimination.

if we win Saturday we win the div. End of story. If we lose and the Saints win we win the div, end of story. If both us and the Saints lose, but we beat the Tinhats, we win the div. If we lose to them then I think they win the div. And we become the wildcard team. But some other variables might come in at that point to change it. Basically all we need to do is win one of the next two and we win the div.

If we win Saturday vs TB or the Titans lose this Sunday teh nw ewin the division and can then treat the following week leading up to the RS final vs Tennessee as our bye week for the Wild-Card game here in Houston.
