NFL Random Thought of the Day

Bucs GM Mark Walton was arrested this morning for beating his 5-week pregnant girlfriend...............Sunday, he found out that it was his baby.

Parity in the NFL looks to be returning since Patriots took over.

So many good teams right now. Makes it more exciting.

Except the Texans. They still can’t get it together.

Cost of L.A. stadium has mushroomed
November 21, 2019, 1:39 PM EST

Most projects end up costing more than originally expected. The new stadium in L.A. will cost dramatically more than originally expected.

A lengthy new item from Seth Wickersham and Don Van Natta Jr. of ESPN.com explores the dysfunction arising from the return of the Rams and Chargers to Los Angeles, where they will share a stadium built by Rams owner Stan Kroenke. The relationship features plenty of tension and acrimony, with the potentially shattered partnership fueled by one basic reality: The price for constructing the stadium keeps going up, up, up, up, up.

Fewer than five years ago, the Rams believed the stadium would cost $1.86 billion. By late 2015, the number moved to $2.4 billion. Since then, the project has “gone off the rails,” thanks to vendor competition driven by a $14 billion renovation at LAX airport and an unexpectedly expensive infrastructure association with a field that will sit 100 feet below ground level. Heavy rain in 2017 delayed the opening of the stadium by a full year.

By March 2018, the price had moved to $5 billion. Officials with the company building the venue now reportedly refer to it as “our $6 billion stadium.”

Complicating the expense problem is a revenue problem. The Chargers have struggled to sell PSLs, the proceeds of which go directly to defray the costs incurred by Kroenke. The Rams expected $400 million to come from those PSL sales; the actual number will be much lower than that, especially after the Chargers dropped the price for upper-deck PSLs to $100.

So the stadium is costing much more than expected, and the stadium will be bringing in much less money than expected. And the Raiders — the preferred team in L.A., despite any efforts of the Rams and Chargers to change that — will be playing their home games only four hours away, starting next year.

An extremely foolish move by some smart businessmen. LA hasn't done a good job of keeping their professional football franchises. They get the Rams back and fail to get their original colors back (blue and yellow) while awaiting the arrival of the new stadium. This when they're planning to start wearing the original blue and white uniforms again. Instead they chose to allow the NFL to dictate one uniform item change at a time.....like a game of un-strip poker. Their uniforms are pure crap and even worse was playing in the SB with this mishmash of uniforms. Huge marketing blunder!!!!!

Second blunder......thinking the Chargers were going to gain a grassroots following in LA and then thinking they could fill the same stadium at the same PSL cost as the Rams. This has cluster duck written all over it. Maybe these two nutter owners thought their timing would have their two teams playing in the SB in their new stadium. I guess they haven't heard the old saying......shite in one hand and wish in the other and see which one fills up first.

Third blunder......both teams have fallen at the worst possible time. Both QB's are playing horribly but just good enough to keep both franchises out of the running for the current crop of QB's coming into the NFL in 2020 and 2021. New uniforms for Rams might be the biggest excitement for the team when the new stadium is opened. Chargers will just be so-so and still wearing these crappy iterations of their original uniforms. If the Chargers wanted to have any possible impact with the LA based fans, they should also unveil new uniforms that feature their original look of Powder Blue and Gold.....fans might actually buy their apparel again.

The NFL stated that they investigated Myles Garrett's claim of the racial slur.............learned an interesting fact re. players wearing microphones.
&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

“We looked into it and found no such evidence,” NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

It is unclear how thorough an investigation the NFL conducted, but there’s always ample audio available. In addition to the many microphones around the field that are used by the network for the broadcast, by rule every team must have either both of its starting guards or its starting and backup center wearing small microphones on their shoulder pads. So at least one player in the general vicinity would have been wearing a microphone, although we don’t know how well the audio of Garrett and Rudolph was picked up.

Perhaps the NFL should make all of the audio from the moments before Garrett attacked Rudolph publicly available, so that everyone can hear what was said.link

The Patriots have listed quarterback Tom Brady as questionable for their Week 12 matchup against the Cowboys.
Brady was limited in Friday's practice due to a right elbow injury, and it marks the first time he has appeared on the team's injury report this season. The Patriots will reportedly monitor his elbow and reassess on Saturday.
If Brady were to miss Sunday's game, rookie Jarrett Stidham would play in his absence. Stidham has had limited opportunities this season, throwing for 14 yards, one touchdown and one interception in three games.

I dunno BS head fake by Belichick or a bona fide injury issue ?

Why the drastic reduction from last year? Co-incidence?
Some of the decrease is due to the pattern across the League of less vigorous practice sessions. Some of it is that teams are giving out "rest" during the week like candy in the form of Did Not Participate and Limited Participation. A significant decrease has inevitably come from this past year's incorporation by all teams of neuromuscular training (NMT), a training program which has repeatedly been shown in large-scale studies to reduce ACL injury risk. And finally, some of the decrease is from "protective" rules restrictions on contact resulting in knocking out a good number of what would be contact ACLs. And of course some of it is bound to be "dumb luck."

Sources: NFL teams haven't called Colin Kaepernick since QB's Nov. 16 workout
In the week since Colin Kaepernick worked out for seven NFL teams at Charles R. Drew High School in Riverdale, Georgia, no teams have reached out to work him out, visit with him or sign him, league sources told ESPN.

The Patriots game is going to be interesting. First of all Brady, who couldn't make it through Friday practice due to a significant elbow tendonitis and being labelled QUESTIONABLE for the game tonight is still expected to play (also see my post re. Brady in the Texans Talk Injury Report thread). Undoubtedly, his velocity and probably accuracy will be affected, and probably more so as he accumulates passing attempts. My guess is that he will be placed on a limited passing snap count. It is to be seen if he can make it through the entire game. If this wasn't enough, the WR situation is far from ideal. Mohamed Sanu has not been able to pass the Concussion Protocol today and will not play. Phil Dorsett with his high ankle sprain is OUT. So Brady is left with Edelman who is still dealing with a shoulder injury he sustained in week 8, Meyers (15 career catches), Harry (3 career catches) and Matt Slater (last catch, 2011) at wide receiver WR.

Who came up with 3,507

Such a weird number.

That dline for 49ers is a monster.
If they can do this to Rodgers, they will be tough to keep out of the SB and be a problem for any offense they face including Saints and Patriots.
They are fun to watch.

Jimmy G is starting to round into form coming back from has ACL.

Yea they were overwhelming last night but on the hand JDC and teammates just beat them in their own stadium a short time ago.

Watching so far how the pass interference replay rule has worked out, I think it's pretty clear that whoever is in charge of officiating in NY (I think it's Al Riveron) is clearly pissed off about this rule and is trying to sabotage it. Some of the most obvious calls haven't been reversed when challenged by coaches, and Texans had at least 2 of those, the pick play vs KC, and one vs Baltimore. But the reverse percentage is much higher when it's an automatic review (last 2 min or scoring plays). Yesterday, a Jets TD was wiped off the board when they reviewed it and found a pick was set before the pass (was about the same as that play vs KC). And that DPI non-call that was challenged and reversed vs NO yesterday was ridiculous by the standards that have been set by NY so far.

I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but it just looks so fishy that the only calls that get reversed are the ones that are auto reviewed (so, coaches don't participate, refs are just self policing themselves) and the ones vs NO who started this whole thing.

And in general, I have a major gripe with Al Riveron. I think the quality of refereeing went down significantly since he took over. I also think the quality of replay reviews have gone down significantly since he became the one reviewing them. I don't necessarily have a problem with a common standard of reviews (NY doing all the reviews vs the old system of refs on the field reviewing their own plays), but the standard has changed in many cases from using common sense and multiple synchronized video angles to see what happened and make the right call to using 100% bullet proof evidence that refs made a mistake or the call will stand.

Yesterday in the Patriots vs Cowboys. With 6 minutes left Cowboys trailed 13-6. Cowboys had the ball with a 4 down and 10 yards to go on the Patriots 12 yard line. They kicked a FG. Does anyone know why they kicked the FG instead of going for the TD. I can't see how three points helped them. They still need a TD to win. Any one of you Cowboy Fans.............

1. Quite obvious that Lamar Jackson is the medias newly-crowned GOAT for 2019, rightfully so

2. I really respect a well-coached, tough, disciplined team, John Harbaugh and his staff are among the best.

3. Finally, BALT is playing with fire and they just MIGHT get Jackson killed at some point this year

Good take on it. The evidence of reversals or lack there of and when they do occur does suggest your theory. I know many will disagree but sometimes I just want it all to go away...that is until my team gets hosed but even with replay we’ve gotten hosed.

I think it would be kind of cool to play an entire game with no replay review. Ok maybe just a pre season game but I’d like to watch an entire game with no replay. Pre 1986

There have been so many Pass Interference calls that were obvious and should have been reversed but were not, I see no reason for having the rule.

One can only imagine that it's exactly the reaction those in charge of refereeing are looking for with the way they've been handling this rule...

Canton?

He will because of his longevity and the numbers he's put up because of it, but he never led the league in rushing. In fact, he was better than the 9th leading rusher in a season just twice in 15 years. That doesn't speak to dominating, HOF RB to me. Arian Foster was in the top 6 four times in his short career.

Gore has had a great career. HOF? He'll probably get in, but its hard to think of him as that for me. His longevity is more impressive than anything.

Man, totally forgot Ed Oliver (UH) was drafted by the Bills. I'm watching the Bills - Cowboys game and Oliver just bull-rushed the C-G gap and slapped the ball out of Prescott's hand. That looked really impressive.

Have no idea who was singing at halftime. But halftime singing performances always suck and no one in the stadium ever gives a damn.

I get what you're saying here, and by and large I agree. And today's were particularly dreadful.

That said..

..they don't always suck. And every once in a blue moon seemingly most everyone gives a damn.

That performance was dope as f*ck.

1:45 in the video Rudolph tried to rip off Garrett's helmet first. Not saying it excuses Garrett's response, but Rudolph should probably rethink that approach to dealing w/ DLinemen hitting him in a way he doesn't like.

Why can’t these two be classy like Andre ? When the titans hobbit CB ripped andres helmet off, Andre just rained blows down on his head, like a gentleman.

That clip WILL NEVER get old.

Prince was a true entertainer and artist unlike so many of these unoriginal cookie cutter acts.

As soon as Connor Williams was injured, I said it's an ACL. I was surprised later when it was announced that "imaging" demonstrated no ACL.........and he was allowed to return. Then I found out that ATT Stadium as is the case with all NFL stadiums except Cincinnati's has no MRI. So the Cowboys relied on plane x-rays to rule out a partial ACL...............something that cannot be done. When he was allowed to return and continue play, he completed the rupture of his ACL.............ACL #27.

Former NFL WR Terrelle Pryor underwent surgery this morning and is in critical condition after being stabbed in the shoulder and chest last night at his Pittsburgh apartment. He was stabbed by a woman who is in custody. He underwent surgery last night, and although in critical condition this morning, is expected to survive. There are no further details that have been released about the incident.

Lions 2nd string QB Driskell has now been placed on IR. Stafford cannot play because of his back injury............leaving the Lions with their 3rd string undrafted QB Blough.:toropalm:
