The New New JaDeveon Clowney Thread

Putting everything on O'Brian's plate more like it. That is a recipe for disaster, like game planning, clock management, challenges, evaluating talent and most importantly, coaching.

I'm wondering how he can do all of this and have a really sick son at home.

I know I couldn't do the job properly.

Not knocking him, as I have a soft spot for people with mental illnesses, but the guy is a multi millionaire. I’m sure he has some type of home health service come in and help the family out while he’s at work. Unless Mrs. O’Brien takes on the load while he’s at work? Anyway, it’s clear that there’s way too much on his plate, and if that’s what he truly wanted, it’s all on him now.

Reading into the situation a bit, this is starting to sound like BOB is getting worried about his job security. Desperate people do desperate things, and this situation absolutely reeks of desperation on our part

True, but at least Tunsil is a really good player who should solve the LT riddle for the next 5-7 yrs. There's major value in knowing that Watson's blindside will be protected and Watson will have the talent around him that he needs to succeed.

A good young OL of Tunsil/Howard/Fulton/Scharping/Henderson that has a chance to grow together and in typical Texans fashion is cheap has alot of value and may be worth a 1st/2nd.

The stink of desperation sickens me. JD PLUS a 1st AND 2nd AND possibly a 3rd!?!?!? I love Tunsil, but that is just a weak attempt at a Kevin Costner from that shitty trade day movie. Jesus Christ I can’t believe the think tank on Kirby feels it would be appropriate. This is gross negligence.

Not going to happen if they win.

You think the team will turn on the HC that did what was necessary to protect Watson?

You think Watson will appreciate Tunsil protecting him instead of the crap that was Davenport/Clark.

If Watson is the team leader everybody around here thinks he is, there will be no dissension in the locker room.

You're hate/hoping BOB gets fired is blinding you.

I’m going to laugh at all you idiots who said LT isn’t elite. Don’t think you’d pony up Clowney, a 1st and 2nd/3rd otherwise

Tunsil is good, but I can name 10+ tackles that are better. He may become elite as he gains more experience and others retire, but he isnt right now.

Im actually hoping that Clowney holds out until week 9 to save us from BOB giving away the next two drafts. What coach or GM is going to come here if we dont have draft picks?
(Answer: not one worth having)

Maybe so, but this team is further away from being a SB contender than just a LT, and giving away a ton of picks doesn’t help you fix that.

This reeks of the Osweiler situation where the Texans once again are trying to smooth over more mistakes by being the suck ass talent evaluators they are. You can’t keep giving away picks to fix your fuckups. And it's not just the picks you're giving up to get rid of JD and bring in Tunsil, it's the picks you lose from trading JD the right way next off-season.

What a clusterfuck of an organization. They need an Astros type stripping it down and completely starting over. Unfortunately that would likely require an ownership change and that ain't happening.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that you've never read this:

Lol, nope and I’ve never watched Ophra or gone on a Nutisystem diet. I was too busy working and retiring in my early fifties. You?

So I like Tunsil .. alot. He's gotten better and makes me somewhat less edgy about our new guys playing G for a year and then sliding out, BUT lets keep everything realistic yeah?. HIs run blocking does leave alot to be desired, but he has the tools to make it work. If you want to get 'technical' then the PFF grade that he received this year (70 overall?) would basically have him listed as a "NFL STARTER" 70-84 .. so your claim of him being "ELITE" now isnt approrpiate ... YET! Stock trends up no doubt, but while you do seem to be receiving some hazing, I think responding with factual supporting data is always better than "fighting fire with fire" .. just my 2 cents.

Jadeveon Clowney on the other hand was graded at 89.5 from PFF (look im not a huge PFF guy honestly, but its one of the few data points that we have in conversations like these) and that puts him squarely in the "PRO BOWL" range (which he has been now for 3 years in a row) and on the cusp of actual "ELITE" level play. The point is that Houston is so inept in the front office that they whiffed on the two tackles they selected in the first 3 picks (so far at least) and decided that G would be the best spot for them now, and have created a clusterfk of poor play on the line, so NOW they are almost handcuffed to the idea of getting rid of a true ELITE level player, and taking a RISK (although a positive one IMO) that Tunsil continues to get better. That leads to the fact the Houston offensive coaches suck dick. Mike Devlin will find a way to hinder or destroy Tunsils development and the team would be in a worse spot IMO.

Its not really a good trade for Houston at all, but it reeks of desperation like the draft day selections. IF Tunsil would develop into what Clowney has become then it could be a win/win for each team. Some health concerns on Clowney are understandable, but he has only missed 1 game over 3 years. Gouging for extra picks by your front office is just smart, and if they can get Houston to pony up then its not a talent/talent deal, but a deal that is just taking advantage of an inexperienced group of negotiators for Houston.

PFF GRADING
The Player Grading Scale:
100-90 Elite
89-85 Pro Bowler
84-70 Starter
69-60 Backup
59-0 Replaceable

Texans' Bill O'Brien calls unresolved Jadeveon Clowney situation 'unique'
The unresolved status of Pro Bowl outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney remains in a holding pattern.

The Texans have continued trade discussions with the Miami Dolphins, whose coach, Brian Flores, met with the former top overall pick recently.

Clowney is extremely reluctant to play for a team that he doesn't consider a playoff contender, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly, after playing for an 11-5 squad last season that won the AFC South division title.

Clowney is steadfast that he won't sign his $15.967 million tender unless he is going to a preferred destination like the Seattle Seahawks and Philadelphia Eagles, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly. Clowney fired longtime agent Bus Cook, is in no rush to hire a new agent and is considering not hiring an agent at this time and representing himself and possibly missing regular-season games at a cost of $939,235 game checks per week.

I dunno it might be unique and if so thanks to you coach.
If you an your buddy Gain would have just made the deal to move up and draft Dillard none of this would have happened.
I'm ususally a company guy but not in this case I'm 100 % behind Clwney and all he's doing is taking advantage of the rules & regs like the owners do.
Wonder who's advising him ? I know officially he doesn't have a new agent after fiiring Cook but this has gotten pretty complicated and he's clearly getting advise.

This is all conjecture on our part everyone knows, including Cal, OB is the smartest man in the room and will come out on top

Me? I'm not impressed by people that try to make themselves look impressive. That's me.
Lol, you mistake a deep love of life and positive attitude about all it entails for trying to look impressive. Otherwise I’d read your book or turn negative to impress some members of this forum I guess for self esteem or whatever it’s supposed to endow.

Well your work was definitely not in football judging from your assessment of our head coach. I mean you really think Kalil is a starting LT?

There's really no thinking involved. It's a fact he has started every game he has been active. Now, is your question, should he be starting for the Texans? I would say, no.

It's all about their franchise QB who they are most certainly desperately trying to avoid sending on any more bus rides to away games like last year.
And my understaning is that Lamar Miller is out for the year because Davenport missed a backside bloc on the guy who busted Lamar.
So understandably there's no one on the current roster they Texan have any faith in protecting Watson.

Do you like Clowney? O'Brien: "It's not a matter of want. It's a matter of difference of opinion in value, relative to the contract. It has nothing to do with want. This is where the business end of things come in."

Would you welcome Clowney to come back if you didn't trade him? O'Brien: When he comes in and signs the tender, we can have those conversations. Have to do what's best for the team.

Level of crap here is stunning. I’ve never even posted anything about Khalil. Certainly from a talent judgement standpoint. OB, have I ever once said I like the guy. I post positive comments as a rebuttal to the bs that goes on here, primarily to simply show another point of view. Good *od the level of anguish that goes on here over that guy. YOU can’t change a damn thing other than your character reacting to him. Cal has a short fuse. I truly believe that. It’s going to play out sooner than later one way or the other. Just save some emotional room for the good.

Did we have all these repeat posts on the old board?

I've noticed that when you type a response and hit 'Post Reply', it acts like it's thinking and not posting your comment. What I've learned is to refresh the page after about 5 seconds before you just go and hit 'Post Reply' again and the comment seems to show up.

Maybe people will read this and it'll help out....even if it's the slightest bit.

Question to #Texans O'Brien on Clowney – "Would you welcome him back?"
His answer : "Anytime he wants to come in and sign the tender, we can sit down & talk and go through all those things. Again, it's all about what's best for the team." @KPRC2 #ClowneyWatch

Wow, no wonder Clowney is just chomping at the bit to come back. That's just a ringing endorsement if I ever heard one. :winky:

So only you can criticize ob. If someone else does it's bs. Like clock management?

If cal had a short fuse he would have fired O'Brien for missing out on Dillard, for signing Kalkl, for getting lamar and warring injured, and a billion other reasons
