Should Bill O'Brien tell the truth to the press/media?

Should Bill O'Brien tell the truth to the press/media?

  • Yes, transparency should be expected for followers of the Texans.

  • No, he can lie all he wants, I just care about wins and losses.

  • Yes/No, other reasons (post reply)

  • Just show me the results.

Because they were being stupid. We were starved for a QB. BO's quarterbacks had been Fitzmagic, Keenum, Savage, Yates, Mallet, Hoyer (leave anybody out?) They never checked out Osweiler, they just took him, sight unseen. It was like buying him on EBay. Caveat emptor, buyer beware.

Site unseen my ass. They saw him for practically half a season. Poor judgement sure, but they saw plenty of him on the field in action.

I don't disagree and in fact said I don't blame Kubiak for that but if we are going to give him credit for "made Osweiler look good" something no other NFL coach has been able to do since and blame BoB for Osweiler looking bad, something that we also have to blame every coach Osweiler has had since, then Kubiak should get the blame for Manning looking bad. You see how stupid this can get when you just try and blame all a team's problems on one person. That last sentence was directed at Kdog not you TB74.

I'm sorry I cannot get down with that.

2012: 37 Touchdowns 11 interceptions well over 4600 yards. 13-3 record
2013: 55 Touchdowns 10 interceptions, well over 5500 yards. 13-3 record
2014: 39 Touchdowns 15 interceptions, well over 4700 yards. 12-4 record.

That's all in Kubiak's system. So I don't really understand your point here bud.

I have no idea what those numbers have to do with the conversation since we were not talking about Kubiak in Houston at all.. Also your win-loss numbers are way off and 2014 was BoB's first year so yeah not sure where you got your information but you might want to get a different source.

2012: 12-4
2013: 2-14
2014: 9-7

Those seasons took place when Kubiak was in Houston.

Yr 2 without being saddled with RS.

This is yr 2 of the 3yrs it's going to take to clean up the mess that RS left. 11 wins was a good start though.

Still with this narrative? Offensive looks like as big a mess as ever because OBrien is running it

So if Kubiak did such a great job then why was Manning, a Hof QB, the league's worst QB that year? I actually don't blame Kubiak for that but if we are going to give him credit for Osweiler having a good game while there and then blame BoB for Osweiler sucking here then we have to be fair. That defense saved the team's collective butts way more than the Texans defense ever has.

Also the fact that it was his first year proves he had very little to do with building and coaching the team, Kubiak was handed a race car that was already on the track towards a SB win. He just had to make sure he didn't drive it off the road and he did that so kudos to him. But when it came to building the team and leading it from start to finish, like when he was with us, he had no more success that BoB has had. The holes and problems were in different places but they were still there.

He wasn't handled a race car. He was handed two terrible QBs and somehow managed it. Imagine how OBrien would have handled it.

Kubiak adjusted to different personnel. OBrien is still getting a pass because he doesn't have his perfect personnel.

Because the OL has been neglected for yrs.

The OL should be better next yr because Howard/Scharping are upgrades that will get better with experience. Sure do wish they would've traded for Dillard and drafted an OG if Howard wasn't there in the 2nd rd.

The young guys have to get some experience.

Plenty of film study

After the Texans' 30-0 loss to Kansas City in the playoffs, O'Brien took off a couple of days before returning to the film room. First, he evaluated each of the Texans. Then, he turned to prospective free agents and watched tape before filing his report with Smith.

When O'Brien finished, Osweiler was at the top of his list of quarterbacks.

"We study all these guys," O'Brien said. "We watch their (regular-season) tape (and) their preseason tape. When you threw the tape on from (last season), it was impressive. He played in some very tough games, some very meaningful games.

"It's not easy to be a starting quarterback in this league. It's one of the most difficult things in sports to do. I think we got the right guy."

The Texans coach gushed over Osweiler during Tuesday's AFC Coaches Breakfast, talking about what he discovered while watching every snap from the former Broncos passer.

"I think the first thing you look at is his film, how he plays the game," O'Brien said. "He's a big, tall guy with a strong arm and he stands in the pocket. When the rush is bearing down on him, he delivers the ball. Now, look, it's not always clean, but there's a lot that goes into that. I think the one thing I like about this guy is that he's got good leadership ability."

The Texans pounced on Osweiler only after an extensive review of every available quarterback, with O'Brien saying the team "spent a lot of time studying a lot of different guys, college guys, pro guys," but felt like "Brock gave us the best chance to win
."

"I thought the New England game was one particular game that stood out to me because they were really, in coaching lingo, they were 'getting after him.' They were hitting him and he was delivering the football and getting right back up and calling the next play. One of the main requirements for a quarterback in this league is the ability to stand in there -- when everything's flying at you -- take a hit and deliver the ball, and that's one thing in that game that really stood out to me."

On the Raiders tilt: "(Pass rusher) Khalil Mack must have hit him, I don't know, eight to 10 times in that game? Stood in there, delivered the ball, maybe statistically it wasn't his best game, but to someone who's been coaching that position for a while and has really studied it, that means a lot to us."

Not everyone believes that Osweiler's ready for prime time, but at least one NFL coach is completely sold.

It was a top 10 OL when OBrien got here. He dismantled it

This is what a HC says to please his owner and Os was the best FA on the market.

I thought the ones on offense looked pretty good on Saturday. But I’m reading about how awful the offensive line is and how much better a HC Kubiak was than O’Brien; which has been discussed many, many times before.

Was I watching a different preseason practice...I mean “game”?

Why do you keep pushing the Kubiak vs O'Brien angle? Kubiak is gone and won't be coming back, it's not a choice to be made

They were old and on their last legs.

Do you think BOB said, I think it's a great idea to let DB/Brooks/Jones go?

I dont, I think the Texans org didn't want to spend the $$$$ to keep them. That's the 1 constant with the Texans org. There are parallels between the Brooks/Clowney situations.

Yes he thought he could replace them because he's a genius after all. I guess it's not his job to keep good players.

Certain parties have an agenda they just can't get enough of

Those were the Broncos records with Manning at the helm and Kubiak the head coach. Those numbers refutes your comment about Manning not being great with Kubiak.

No The Broncos numbers with Manning at the helm and Kubiak the HC/OC

Did you just not even try to do the most basic of research? True Manning was at the helm but John Fox was the HC (except weeks 10-13 of 2013 when it was Jack Del Rio) and Mike McCoy was OC in 12, Adam Gase in 13 and 14. Kubiak wasn't the HC till 15 and Rick Dennison was the OC. Before that Kubiak was HC for the Texan's, you know that team who's MB you're on. Forget research did you just forget who was even the HC for this team prior to O'Brien? TB are you drunk and/or high man?

It wasn't his job, it's his job is to let the gm know what type of players he wants and the gm goes and gets them.

His actual job is to coach the players.

O'Brien didnt want Mallet, Hoyer, Jaelen Strong, Savage and XSF?

He wanted Hoyer as a placeholder because he knew the offense. The others who knows. I don't think he wanted Mallet. Savage was a guy BOB wanted and failed to develop.

& you know this how?????

Don’t know about Fitz but I’d bet money he wanted Mallet. Young QB, history with him in NE, cannon for an arm, yeah Mallet checked all the boxes that BoB likes in a QB except for the “Can set an alarm” box. I honestly think that’s why he didn’t seem that excited about Watson at first because Watson was said to have a weak arm.

He also has Height.
