Brian Gaine Fired

To me This is just an opinion. Perhaps you didn't watch the games, but regardless of scores, the effort was plain to see. Spin it how you like, but the talk on why Kubiak was fired was overwhelmingly that the team had given up. Understandable with Schaub setting the pick 6 record and Kubiak's insistence on sticking with him.
The final scores are not OPINIONS; they are FACTS.

OPINION is "the talk on why Kubiak war fired was overwhelmingly that the team had given up."

This Swearinger? :

Calling Obrien unprofessional your definition of hating? There was some unprofessional actions here, but on Swearingers part.

Can't believe I'm defending Obrien but he was right in this instance.

Brooks? He didn't like it that Obrien removed players pictures in the hallway, wasn't having fun at practice.
Was used to Kubiaks way and didn't like the "Patriot way" instilled by Obrien. Guess Obien was too tough compared to Kubes. Good player, wish he could have adapted and remained a Texan.

Brock? This old timer was about ready to go to blows with him too.

I see a team that still plays hard for their coach. The ones that don't quit. Don't know why ? but the players are a better judge of their coach than I am. We'll know when they give up on him.

How did this devolve from a Brian Gaine thread? :)

Appreciate your post.

:coffee:

.where did I use the word hate? I said didn't like Obrien.

And I also said there are some that like him and some that might not like him. It comes with the territory. I also heard that Clowney doesn't like Obrien. Does that mean he want go out and play hard for him and the Texans? I work with some gentlemen who do not like our coordinator but they still put out. So I don't get that question there bud.

And that 4-12 season them boys gave up. Especially in the last five games or so.

Kubiak should have been fired for being a mediocre HC and giving us over a decade of RS.

I mean the Texans org is still suffering from a PR standpoint from the mess RS left behind.

We all know your Keenum/Kubiak bias... perhaps I should have mentioned your colored glasses
Bias? Nah.
It's just the same with every other player or coach.
I only "defend" the over-the-top "opinions.

I never claimed that Myers was a great Center.
I never claimed that KJax was a shut down corner or most-ready CB.
I never claimed that Keenum was a bona-fide starting QB.
I never claimed that Kubiak didn't have flaws.

Those that had over-the-top OPINIONS on them had been proven wrong; some still try to pin things on me.

IMHO, the firing of Kubiak was justified.
However, I always thought it wasn't the best idea.
There was no denying that Kubiak has a good offensive mind.
Before firing such a guy, you want to be sure you have a capable replacement.

I'm not aware I said that you hated Obrien. I apologize if I did.

I think the word hate came in earlier in the tread from some writer claiming ex players hated Obrien.

If by capable you mean better than a .500 HC, you would be correct.

You do know Obrien and Brock were about to go to blows?

Swearinger is on record going off on Obrien, as well as Brandon Brooks stating he doesn't like Obrien. Google it old timer.
Brock was a punk, Swearinger by his own admission admits he was immature and difficult early on and the only thing I could find regarding Brooks was that he didn’t like OB because he was another Belichick...that’s good, right? I’d personally put my credibility behind DHop and Watson who love the guy....and have excelled.

Again if you read deeper you would see the point I made. Which is, this is typical because it goes on in every locker room and every job. But hey I understand , some of yall good peeps has to come to O'Brien's protection.

Actually not true at all. I’ve got no thing for OB but I do believe this. This guys roster has been trash for a long time. Say what you will with that QB mess but he didn’t have one. Kubiak got his QB early. Even you have to admit our depth was depleted, especially at key positions...then look at all the injuries. Actually this is the first year hopefully he gets his QB for a full year. I like the addition these past two years even though we know nothing about this year’s draft. What is important is that no doubt he’s been involved with roster building with BG. He’s had some success, better winning % than Kubiak. It would be insane to dump him before the right criteria are in place. I’d say this is the first year, if no crazy ass injuries occur, that we see what he’s about. He doesn’t have to win it all but you want to see a path developed in that direction. If he fails I wouldn’t have any problems moving on. Look at the Steelers and some others. They haven’t done much lately but they have great coaches and they know what they can achieve with the right pieces. It’s like the Astros and Bo Porter. What was he supposed to do with that roster? Let’s look at this year because we can’t afford another mistake here.

The roster that he acquired was not trash. I wish yall would stop with that false narrative. That team before the meltdown year in each game they played were very close, just came off a season in which we won 12 games. They went 9-7 in his first year. They have had a top 5 defense at least 3 years under his command. (Meaning HC) and when healthy his offense looked explosive especially with Watson at the helm. So again let's throw that trash comment where it belongs, that's right the dumpster.

It's really been his coaching in key situations and injuries.

No he inherited a 2-14 team. With a complete late season meltdown on the 12-4 team. And that roster was depleted to the point of no viable backup to a key starter. Dumpster stuff.

IMHO, the firing of Kubiak was justified.

Kubiak’s firing probably was justified, but it should have come with a Rick Smith firing. He’s the one who never thought of a possible life after Schaub, something that still plagued this team years after Kubiak was gone.

Kubiak took over a franchise that was sunk and built it into a playoff contender.....slowly, but still. Part of the reason was one of his flaws. And yes, he did have them. Being blindly loyal to his coaching buddies was one of those flaws. It wasn’t until he was likely forced to make changes (son of Bum), that he broke through to the next level.

I don’t know what the argument is because no sane human can read all the bullshit here and stay that way, but O’Brien isn’t taking this team to the next level either. This very average HC has been plodding along racking up division titles in a down division, and keeps getting embarrassed in the playoffs.

Is Kubiak better than OB, OB better than Kubes, it doesn’t matter. What matters is Bill O’Brien isn’t the answer to getting this franchise to the next level either.

When the Texans hired him BoB was considered one of the top prospects for a HC, he had dragged Penn out of the mud after the Jerry Sandusky scandal. Say what you want at the time BoB was considered a great hire.

Why was he considered a great hire?

His offense at Penn State wasn't good. He was oc of pats for one year, but belichick replaced him with McDaniels as soon as he could.

Agree that he has had trash for QBs.

Now here’s the kicker, that’s his fault. Hoyer, Mallet and Savage were all his guys and while Osweiler may not have been he was only hired because BoB couldn’t get any of the Dan QBs to be half way decent. Even with Watson reports were that was a Smith pick and given how, shall we say, disinterested BoB looked right after he was picked I would agree. I mean you just drafted your best chance ever at a franchise QB and you look like your vacation was canceled.

Yes he was and your bias is showing, again, O’Brien blew away expectations for Penn state after the program was devastated. Also despite what you think O’Brien leaving was considered a blow to NE and the Penn state job was a promotion even if it was college.

Plenty of college coaches that had turned programs around.

He was a very questionable playcaller even in New England. Which is why Belichick brought back Josh McDaniels as fast as he could. It was in the middle of the playoffs too.

2011 they went 9-4 (6-2)
2012 under Obrien they went 8-4 (6-2)
2013 under Obrien they went 7-5 (4-4)
2014 they went 7-6

So how exactly did he change their program around again?

They had winning seasons after the long term assistant coach was outed as a pedophile and their legendary head coach was found to have been trying to cover it up and was fired. If you can’t see how amazing that is then I don’t know what to tell you. To many on here are hung up on stats, numbers don’t always tell you the whole story.

I’m not saying BoB is going a great job, I would rate him B- to B, but let’s not act like the Texans just found some random guy off the street. When he was hired it was, on paper at least, a win for the Texans.
