But he was extended when?
Help me understand how that should factor into who they decide to put on the field.

He wasn't a good blocker & wasn't showing any signs of improving. He wasn't a particularly good receiver wasn't showing any signs of improving.

Maybe, maybe they didn't want the rookies mistakes to hurt our chances of winning. Maybe.

Bye week was in the middle of the season, I can't fathom a competent coaching staff not able to recognize a liability & prepare for a substitution with a bye week in the middle of the season.

Even if he's under contract for the next eight years if he's not pulling his weight & we have a replacement, there's no good excuse to continue to put him on the field.

Heck, they benched the Baby Giraffe & he was signed for years with a huge cap hit.

I wasn't suggesting anything about who they should have put on the field. But why did they extend him ? Did he show any promise at all? Be honest here if no where else. He hasn't shown anything since his rookie year, so why was here in year 5? Incompetence somewhere imo

Maybe the former GM?

Yes, but not in the fashion it was done.

I didn't say the HC controls the details, but it is fact that both Kubiak & OB (for that matter almost all HCs) controlled the 53. If OB didn't want him he would have been gone.
That's not what our friend told me.

He would know.

If that's the case, I kinda agree. I didn't think the Texans asked him to block much. That was Fiedo's job.

I thought he showed flashes as a receiver & blamed poor QB play for his lack of production. Well, he didn't have that excuse last season.

He said Kubiak did want Schaub but wouldn't have extended him that early. That's very different than wanting rid of a player.
Maybe BOB wanted Griffin, who was a young player but didn't want him extended.

We don't have to worry about this anymore since Gaine/BOB are aligned. Unlike the former GM/BOB.

I think OB has a scheme that is too complicated to throw rookies in to the fire.

I think they have been scared of hitting cap hell with such a top heavy roster talent wise.

I think theyve spent many years making poor decisions with their draft capital.

I think OB has struggled to scheme TE production anyway which has moved the position down the priority list.

So you have Ryan Griffin with a few years in the system despite middling-at-best production, relatively few draft picks, a shaky cap situation and a load more pressing needs which have kept him around a few years longer than he should have been.

Its actually not terrible management to sideline the position somewhat given the Osweiler debacle and having upset your franchise LT.

The incompetance came in pissing away all their draft capital for a few years and out of nowhere desperately scrambling to find an LT from what scraps they had left, not to mention that they had to move for their top rated QB having already signed one to a franchise deal the previous year.

This was surely all BOB's fault.

You want to know what was crazy and hardly mentioned around here. When Brock was at the helm (starting QB) the tight end usage was pretty good. Why? Especially knowing OB struggles to get them involved.

Maybe you are saying that at times when the TE’s don’t have to be held in to shore up the OL they may actually get used? I say this because I have faith DW would love to target those big guys. I’m thinking a lot of opinions will be changed whenever the OL gets fixed.

The scheme part most certainly is OBs fault. Pissing away draft picks is on both the GM and the HC due to the collaborative nature of the Texans drafting strategy.
Very hard to scheme when you have a crappy OL/your best deep threat WR is gone for the season/Rookie TE's/QB coming off of an ACL.

Oh well, this is just one mans opinion.

Agreed and now that the former GM is gone the new GM has spent the last draft trying to improve it.
But then they are being turned over to Devlin to coach. That's not a good path to improving the Oline. I don't blame BoB for Devlin being a bad coach, I blame BoB for Devlin being a bad coach that's still employed by the Texans. Its just like any business, if you're the owner/manager and you have a bad employee you can't complain that they are a bad employee if you don't do anything about it.

I totally agree with you on this point.

The only reason Devlin is still here is because Gaine/BOB think Devlin has been fighting with a knife at a gun fight.

Exactly. I don't understand why some people don't understand the true structure here. It's like they only believe the GM is calling all the shots.
BOB is calling the shots now.

Not so much when the former GM was here or both of BOB/Former GM wouldn't be here. It's not really that hard to understand. The former GM made the McNair's alot of $$$$ the way he structured contracts.

We dont have to worry about this stuff anymore luckily. Be thankful for that, no need to discuss this any further.

OB's wife had cancer too?

Please, do tell how the structure of prior contracts made the McNairs more money.

If BOB had been a part of 4-12 he wouldn't be here. He just coached what was given to him. His words, not mine.

Look at how Casserly structured contracts vs the former GM if you truly want the answers. (Which you dont really want. All you really want to do is be contrarian and like I told TB I'm moving on and you should too.)

One guys here for whatever reason (I wanted him fired and a clean slate) and the other isn't (For sad reasons)

You notice how nobody's beating down the door trying to interview the former GM for another job?

So RS is gone 4 years after the fact for 4-12 not for cancer. You really need to take up fantasy writing.

Try specifying how any of them (allowing for the goal post rapid redeployment) made more money for the McNairs. SPECIFICS not throwing turds against the wall.

You don't know what's going on. The man lost his wife and probably decided not to take on any other jobs. Especially since he's raising his kids by himself now. Plus work for what, when you're a millionaire. Come on Steel.

Again the structure here is like no other. Neither you are are I can dissect it. Especially on the outside looking in. But my thing is look at their history.

: Fire Kubiak but kept his hand picked buddy Rick Smith.

: Fire Smith but clearly kept the guy who behind the scenes undermining him. Then hires his buddy.

Man Both Kubiak and Smith should've been fired.

Both Smith and Obrien should've gotten the boot.

I'm done replying to you

Especially if you cant see the difference in how the contracts were structured before vs after.

Tell you what, look at how/when Casserly structured deals vs how/when the former GM structured the Cushing/Schaub deals as a template.

I've done no such thing since 2010.

Really it's my belief he's the pencil pusher behind the scenes that makes the Texans org so conservative, with the McNair's blessings.

I was going to go with "said the flea on the underside of OB/Gaine's ball sack" but yours is classier.
I wanted BOB fired if you recall correctly.

I did like the Gaine hire, still do.

I haven't liked much of anything else since 2010.
