2019 TEXANS PLAYER TRANSACTIONS

Leonard is a potential player. Could be good in 2-3 years. Surprised the Saints spent a 4th on him. I wouldn't expect anything out of him this year or possibly next year other than a rotational guy to get reps.

I'd be shocked if he made the 53 honestly

The fact that he started as a defensive lineman indicates potentially he may be more athletic than the average offensive lineman.

Houston Texans signed eight players to future reserve contracts.

The offseason has begun for the Houston Texans as they announced that they signed eight players from their 2018 practice squad to a contract to see them play throughout training camp and the preseason. Texans signed tight end Jerrell Adams, running back Josh Ferguson, outside linebackers Davin Bellamy, Chris Landrum, offensive guard Maurquice Shakir, offensive tackle David Steinmetz, and wide receivers Jester Weah and Isaac Whitney to future reserve contracts.

The Houston #Texans signed the following eight players to reserve/future contracts:

TE Jerell Adams
OLB Davin Bellamy
RB Josh Ferguson
OLB Chris Landrum
G Maurquice Shakir
T David Steinmetz
WR Jester Weah
WR Isaac Whitney

Wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo, cornerback Michael Hunter and offensive guard Chad Slade were the only players that were not brought back after spending time with the Texans practice squad. Slade was the most tenured Texan since he has been with the team since he was undrafted in 2015. Bellamy and Weah are returning to the Texans after going undrafted in the 2018 NFL Draft and spending their rookie season with them in training camp and preseason.

Adams, Landrum, Whitney, and Ferguson are the only players that were signed to future contracts with the Texans that have actual NFL regular season experience. Landrum played with the Los Angeles Chargers for 17 games and recorded 10 combined tackles and a sack. Ferguson played with the Indianapolis Colts offense and special teams for 26 games. Whitney played two games with the Oakland Raiders, and Adams played 29 games with the New York Giants prior to signing with the Texans.

Slade was placed on the active roster for 5 games in 2017. He was relegated back to the PS this year. With our great need for OL help this past year, it should be obvious that Slade had not progressed as hoped in the 4 years with the Texans.

this surprised me; perhaps not progressing as hoped for.
He has been with Texans for four seasons, three of them as a practice squad member (one IR). Honestly, he should out of practice squad eligibility by now. As a player, Slade could not force the Texans to carry him as an 8th OLmen when the squad was banged up and underperforming this season. I have no idea what his particular strength or weakness is, but yes he has not progressed enough to be on the active roster of a team with a near the bottom OL performance two years running. It is probably time to move on for both parties.

Really an indictment on Devlin’s coaching for two reasons:

1) He failed to develop Slade despite being given multiple seasons to do so.

2) He did not tell OB/Gaine/Rick Smith to find somebody more talented to bring to camp and compete for an OL position.

Why does Devlin still have a job with this team? The Richard Smith/Frank Bush “friend of HC” coach of the OB era.

The Texans have re-signed Seantrel Henderson for a 1-year contract. Looks like they are counting on him as a vet presence to compete and possibly take over the RT position........at least depth. I'm sure that this does not preclude their sights on all the Draft and/or FA options.

I hope that is the case, at least. It is a good policy to have a guy who keeps you from desperation reaching, but just adding Henderson is probably not the solution all the OL problems.

I've been waiting for this. Same circumstances exist as when he was first signed. Now sign Ju'Wuan James and that position ready. Draft a LT like Cajuste to beat out D or play LG. Then guy like Scharping to back up all but center.

If they don't sign Lamm you'd think they'll bring in at least another tackle. Since Rankin is a Guard now.

What is a future reserve contract and how does it work?
It is a contract which starts the next football year (March)...generally, it is for a back of the roster player so that he can work with the team during the off and pre season..usually the player who sign it are practice squad or young players not on any NFL roster. Very few of these guys make, but there are always exceptions.

Horrible news!

Per rotoworld:

Texans placed DE Duke Ejiofor (Achilles) on the reserve/injured list.
Ejiofor tore his Achilles in a recent workout and will miss the entire 2019 season. The 2018 sixth-rounder logged nine tackles and one sack over 174 snaps as a rookie.

Sucks.

Had high hopes for him coming into year 2.
