Texans random thought of the day

As little as some may want to admit, even when our front 7 had all the time in the world, they could seldom get to the QBs.

Agree, It could be scheme, talent or combination, but with a front seven of Watt, Mercilus and Clowney, the defense just does not seem to bring that consistent intensity, pressure and ferocity that you would expect from that trio. I know it might be an unpopular opinion, but the tape doesn't lie.

I would say the Eagles also spent generously in FA.

They rebuilt their entire receiving corps and Wiesnewski plus made trades to improve their secondary/RB's

Rams almost pulled it off this yr. Probably would've except BB took a young HC to the woodshed.

The article was about signing high dollar free agents like Solder & Brown not $2.5 mil guys like Wiesnewski..

True.

But there are a lot of bad coaches out there. Be a shame not to take advantage of it.

I feel Crennel is a good coach. If someone were to say our issues on defense were due to talent issues I'd be inclined to side with them.

Agreed. It sucks to lose Matthieu but it looks like crennel has a plan. He's reloading the secondary

The offense is a different story.

NFL Power Rankings: Browns hit top 10 via free agency/trades

Forget how the dominoes fell in free agency -- where do the teams stand now?

The initial wave of the open signing period started before it officially started, then hit a crescendo at the end of Day 1 on Wednesday. By Friday, Ryan Tannehill getting traded drew a collective yawn. When the free agency frenzy starts with such a bang, subsequent transactions inevitably get reduced to a thud. The mind can only be blown so many times before it turns to mush.

In that flurry of early trades and signings were a few social-media busters, like OBJ relocating to CLE and Le'Veon taking his mixtape to NYC. But don't sleep on the smaller, less-covered transactions. We didn't.

Some teams improved a rung or three, others were worse for the wear. Still others were worse for the financial wear, but are making a run at winning now. (Think: The Jags and their new Super Foles quarterback.)

A week after the marketplace maelstrom, now is as good a time as any to reorder the whole lot. Below you will find your team's significant moves covered, or exposed. Reveal your take to me: @HarrisonNFL is the place.

Let the dissension commence!

NOTE: Team movement below reflects changes from the post-Super Bowl LIII Power Rankings.

RANK 12

TEXANS

Previous rank: No. 12

Forgive Texans fans if they want to fast-forward to January to see if their team will ever make it out of the early rounds of the playoffs. Winning nine, 10 or even 11 games just isn't that much fun if, after sitting through the draft, minicamp updates, training camp "diaries," preseason matchups that cost full price to see but don't feature anybody playing, and the regular season, you just end up seeing your team lose to the other guys, 21-7, when it counts. Will this be another version of the almost-championship-caliber Texans team? Honey Badger, Kareem Jackson and Kevin Johnson no longer roam Houston's secondary. In their stead are Tashaun Gipson and Bradley Roby, who are more than capable. So the Texans aren't particularly better or worse at this stage. If we were to blink our eyes like Barbara Eden and grant the Texans a need filled, though, it would be a mammoth, hearty tackle who keeps Calais Campbell and every other AFC South monster off Deshaun Watson's tail all afternoon.

I was hoping free agency would stop the belly aching, but maybe it'll take actual football.

I see. You believe our current progress in the offseason is no cause for alarm and we're superbowl bound.

No harm no foul to you. Be the fan you wanna be watching out for sugar and rainbows in a kaleidoscope.

I dont see it. I reserve that right and until I see this team get a ring, I demand it.

Have we seen our talent level improve or get worse?

Its most definitely gotten younger and cheaper.

True.

Now what we need to do is give the new guys a chance before castigating them. Not saying that you have done so.

At this point in time patience and optimism is all we have to hang our hat on.

We need a countdown to the draft clock on this site.

What leads to your optimism?

Oilers Jerseys and history to Houston.

Am I the only one that feels like it is a push to hold on to an old identity than simply create a new one? (Still after all this time)

I mean I was a fan of the Oilers.... I would have been on board with keeping the old identity back in 2002 but now I like being separate from the Oilers/Titans.

Let the past be in the past.... focus on doing what the Oilers never did for Houston and raise Lombardi... dont worry bout bringing the old Jersey back... give us more reason to celebrate the current one

I'm proud to be a Texan, I dont yearn to be an Oiler/Titan.

Houston texans poll (info from the score app from the texans website )said capers was the worst coach in history.

Not much to choose from and I agree

I think some things were out of his control. Ryan young got hurt(IIRC) and the boselli fiasco. Set us back. WWSNN should have been taken out and let banks run the show. Veterna QB sees thing differently and let WWSNN learn. Esp when it was apparent that he was not looking downfield anymore and just running.

Why do so many people want the history of another team?

**** them. Make your own history.
Agreed, I mean I love the heart of JJ and Hop, but it only gives the Titans (the league) one more reason to mock the Texans as illegitimate, like the redheaded step child of the league trying to fit in with their bigger brothers. "I have a history too!!!"

I know the Titans are going to unveil their throw back and it will be used when they face us because now the Titans fan base probably think Texan fans want to be Titans.

I hope they DO taunt JJ and Hopkins by wearing the throwback and I hope the Texans humiliate the Titans at home.

The Oilers were part of Houston. When the Adams Family moved their franchise to Tennessee and then changed the team name to Titans......the NFL should've pulled their rights to the Oilers.

If I were Cal, a Texans Throwback Uniform would feature the current logo and uniforms only in a Battle Red, Columbia Blue and Liberty White. It would be a neat way to pay tribute to the Oilers.

Is the term "luv ya blue" trademarked?

Because of owner's agreements, "Luv Ya Blue" is currently owned by the NFL. It would be interesting if the NFL would allow the Texans to use it, if they were approved to use a throwback color scheme instead of the original oil derrick logo.

Is Columbia blue trademarked? I think something along those lines can be done if they want it badly enough.

I think the use of Columbia Blue in a throwback uniform would only require NFL approval. I think it could be really cool if done right. I can't believe Cal hasn't sniffed this yet b/c the revenue made from this move would be crazy good.

It's pretty stupid really. It was dumb making it seem like the Ravens are the expansion team and that the Browns franchise has been around since the 40's. Jim Brown played for the franchise that now calls itself the Baltimore Ravens, not the franchise that currently calls themselves the Cleveland Browns. No rewriting of the history is going to change that. Unfortunately, Earl Campbell played for the franchise now in Nashville. Johnny Unitas played for the franchise now in Indy. Doing something like the NFL did for the Browns isn't changing any of that.

Are there New Yorkers whining about not having the Giants and Dodgers history? They both left New York over 60 years ago. Nobody gives a rat's ass. The Oilers have been gone 23 years now. Let it go.
