Damn this board loves to
And it's only March 11
Fk me running
Doyou really think they are going to fix the issues on this team with a bunch of 2nd tier FA's and draft picks especially after the rumored trade down.
Ballard (Texas City) is going to kick their collective asses
Cheap Bastards

He really hates Cal and Brian Gaine today, lol.So excited to watch steelb turn into the hateful fans like the rest of us![]()
Oh come on. He has always been the most hateful person on the board. The only reason he embraced Gaine and BOB and Cal was because they weren't Smith and Kubes and Bob - all of whom he HATES HATES HATES. But now that Gaine/BOB/Cal are making rational football decisions he hates them too. Not surprised. He was celebrating when Watson's knee was injured in 2017, and now he wants his neck broken. Still as classy as ever.So excited to watch steelb turn into the hateful fans like the rest of us![]()
So you guys are happy with free agency so far? Lots of people pissed and blowing off steam.
Actually, I am enjoying this a ton.
1) The Texans are behaving like they normally do in free agency...i.e. not signing the guys that they "should"
2) The Texans told us that they are going to behave like they normally do throughout the off-season
3) The Texans are leaking excuses, I mean the logical reasons that those players weren't signed
4) The same fans who have watched this spit for the last dozen or so years get surprised and frustrated
Honestly, amazed by this year after year.

Am I "happy"? Noooo...So you guys are happy with free agency so far? Lots of people pissed and blowing off steam.

Color me not surprised. The Texans have always been cautious in free agency.
What I'm curious about is what was plan B? There was always a chance they'd get outbid for Trent Brown just like Solder last year. So what's plan B? The draft?
Man, the smoke in this room is thick! What's the old adage? "Those who win in FA often lose during the season."
Sure, I would have liked the Texan's to make some exciting splash signings. Sure, I am disappointed they didn't sign Trent Brown to solve the LT issue. But I also am not in panic mode because they didn't. FA is not over and the draft has not taken place. Historically, these splash signings often don't work out as well as the fans and teams hope and over paying and spending cap just because you have it ultimately lead to future cap hell. So far my opinion of this off-season is fairly neutral and I am waiting to decide if it is good or bad. Ultimately, the play on the field will decide that once the regular season starts. This BOB/Gaine partnership needs to show progress this year or it is time to move on.
I can't either. The Browns have accumulated a lot of talent.Random thought is the same thought I've had for yrs. The McNair's are cheap.
The Rams/Eagles disagree with you.
I cant wait to see how the Browns do next yr.
Head to head comparison of Texans and Browns since 2002.
Texans Record 121/151
Coaches
-------
Dom Capers
Gary Kubiak
Wade Phillips - Interim
Bill O'Brien
Browns record 83/188/1
Coaches
-------
Butch Davis
Terry Robiskie
Romeo Crennel
Eric Mangini
Pat Shurmur
Rob Chudzinski
Mike Pettine
Hue Jackson
Gregg Williams
Freddie Kitchens
Now all that being said as of right now who would you rather be?
I can't either. The Browns have accumulated a lot of talent.
...now please note that the current World Champs haven't made a single move in free agency so far. (unless you count letting their starting LT and DE walk out the door.)
This season will be a good test to see if it's talent or coaching. Some talking heads are already using terms like "Super Bowl contenders" regarding the Browns. Let's see if all this F/A 'talent' can unseat the Champs.
The key in those moves are that Belichick selects the guys that fit what he wants to do and he has the coaches to get the best out of those guys.BB has Wynn who he spent a 1st rd pick on (do the Texans ever do this) ready to take over at LT.
He will probably sign a guy like Ansah on the cheap and draft an edge rusher high in the draft. Plus he's got Rivers who basically played his rookie season last yr trained up and ready to go. In short BB plays chess the Texans org plays tiddly winks.

I'm betting Texans are also waiting for the bargain bin to roll out.Pats will likely wait until 2nd stage of FA to add pieces. That way their acquisitions won't affect the two 3rd round comp picks they will be getting for Flowers/Brown.

Can Alliance players be signed once their season is over? I seriously don't know. Maybe that's what we're waiting on?

No whining about "I only coach the guys the GM sends me".
In the last 8 seasons, the Texans have spent more money than the Eagles for 6 of those.
Chip Kelly era
FA is not over, yet. The Texans have avoided the early, splash signings - the ones where you overpay for the talent available. The FO is committed to getting value in Free Agency. I can understand that position and also realize it is unpopular with most on this forum. I am going to wait to pass judgement. There are more moves that will be made and the draft. I know we have a lot of cap space, but going hog wild in FA like some here seem to be advocating can easily put you in cap hell in the future. Historically, overspending on talent in FA has rarely been a successful way to build a championship team. While that adage may have some truth to it for the most part, the Texans are in a position where they have a whole lot of holes to fill. And not just for depth, but competent starters. They are bare bone at CB and OL, the entire RB group needs an upgrade. You're not going to get it all fixed in 1 off-season, granted, but you certainly make it a lot harder by skipping free agency and relying solely on the draft. And especially when you've got the amount of cap space the Texans had going into this.
Yeah, it's just March, and ultimately it all gets decided by the play on the field, but you've got to have somebody on the field who can play. Rolling the dice on 7 rookies from the draft, UDFAs and street FAs, ain't going to get it done. And the Texans attitude towards the OL is just baffling to me. Well, the Texans attitude towards a lot of things is baffling to me.
I'm not hitting the panic button in March, partly because this organization rarely warrants any emotion other than apathy, but mainly because it's March, but come on man!! Talent, great talent, is flying all over the place and none of it is coming to Houston. That's almost inexcusable with the needs and money they have.
That’s fine and all but you don’t have to go wild to fill your roster just because everyone else is. The Mark Ingram deal for example. I’m not disappointed they’re not getting the big names and spending the big money, I’m disappointed that this team hasn’t improved since the last game they played. Especially when you’ve got room to make something happen.FA is not over, yet. The Texans have avoided the early, splash signings - the ones where you overpay for the talent available. Like I said, it’s March 14 so I’m not panicking or anything close to that. We’ll see what things look like after the draft and in August, but the attitude that Gaine and OB have about free agency is a concern. No, you don’t build your roster exclusively through free agency, but you do need it to fill holes to where you’re not reaching for a need in the draft instead of getting BPA.
I like Crennel getting underappreciated talent. I'm fairly confident he'll coach them up. Calvin, Roby, Boddy-Calhoun, JJoe, Hal, Ried, Gipson, maybe a couple of draft picks... I think we'll be solid on the back end.
I would rather Gaine get appreciated talent.
True.
But there are a lot of bad coaches out there. Be a shame not to take advantage of it.
I feel Crennel is a good coach. If someone were to say our issues on defense were due to talent issues I'd be inclined to side with them.

As little as some may want to admit, even when our front 7 had all the time in the world, they could seldom get to the QBs.They were
Particularly at the CB position.
disagree. cb and back field gave up pass less than 2 seconds most of times like it was nothing or get burned. As little as some may want to admit, even when our front 7 had all the time in the world, they could seldom get to the QBs.
