Are Texans sitting on their hands again?

Guessing you haven't kept up with the news on Brown but he was what I referenced on the 60 million, that's for 4 years and 32 million of it guaranteed. That's way to much for a guy that played in a very Oline friendly system guarding the GOAT QB that takes care of himself pretty well. Yes we need better players on Oline, Watson can not take 60+ sacks again, but one player isn't going to fix all our problems either.

Iguess you dont value Watson's health as much as I do. I wanted them to sign Brown and spend a 1st plus a 2nd rd pick on the OL to protectect their franchise QB. that's what commitment looks like. I hope Watson get hurt and everybody gets fired and then we can watch Cletus turn this franchise into a true clusterfvck.

They deserve what they get, I feel sorry for the fans. #again

Once again you are hoping Watson (who you never wanted to start with) gets hurt. I would guess that EVERYONE on this board values Watson's health more than you do. #KeepOnHating

I ain't gonna panic yet.
There are several things that can improve our oline.
#1 is Watson himself getting rid of the ball instead of holding on to it forever waiting for the big play to develop.
#2 build a reliable and effective run game.
#3 get a sure handed TE (a QB's best friend) and some depth at receiver so he won't be stranded.
#4 another season under their belts will benefit the cohesion.
Of course, FA hasn't officially begun yet and Texans could find themselves a nice talent or two along the line in the draft.

Well, I guess we were never in on Trent brown. I guess that’s OK, given what he received from Oakland. I didn’t think that would be his market. Re-signing Blackson is a total Texans way to start off free agency though. Hope that doesn’t set the precedent for how it’ll be this year.

That was a total smart signing..

Quality player, depth, and possible future starter on a cheap contract and team control for the next 3 years.

I hope that does set a precedent on the type of players we resign.. unlike some of the overpriced injured players we resigned in the past.

Given our cap space and window, I’d like to see this selective aggressiveness Gaine touted during the combine. Let’s throw a Hail Mary or two. If it doesn’t work out, then aw shucks. But it’s better than our go to strategy of going above market for other teams backup players

What window?

Our QB is only 23 years old and is just starting his 3rd season in the league.. Our window is going to be open for awhile.

This is not accurate at all. Brown may not be a stud signing for what he may command, but being afraid of a prospect simply because he plays for the Patriots makes no sense, nor is the reasoning accurate. Plenty of players have left the Pats and done well.

How many players?

Wes Welker in Denver? Don't really remember a whole lot more.

I'm on board with a few of these moves but I wouldn't release anyone without checking their trade value. Anyhow, if it were me making the moves:

TAG, SIGN AND/OR. POSSIBLY TRADE
Clowney - EDGE/DE - 2019 RD1 or RD2 and RD2 or RD3 Tagged

TRADE OR RELEASE
Mercilus - OLB - Possibly a RD3 or RD4 Don't think so
Miller - RB - Possibly a RD6 Don't think so
Griffin - TE - Possibly a RD7 Maybe

TEXANS TO SIGN
Mathieu - FS Signing with KC
Blackson - DT Done
Dunn - DT Probably coming back
Covington - DT Probably signing elsewhere
Scarlett - OLB Done
Fairbairn - K Done

FA's TO SIGN
Trenton Brown - LT - Projected 14.4M Annually Signing with Raiders
LeVeon Bell - RB - Projected 10.6M Annually Wishful thinking
Ndamukong Suh - DT - Projected 15.4 Annually
Wishful thinking

Hope you got a backup plan! Two of your "big fish" just got away! :fishing:

I scan five or ten NFL pages every day and I see lots of news about other teams doing all manner of things--trading, thinking of trading, cutting, signing, talking to, planning, etc. Seems like lots of teams are VERY active in one way or another.

But I rarely, almost never, see anything reported about the Texans. SO I wonder if the Texans are doing nothing (which seems sort of characteristic of recent seasons) or if the sports media just doesn't give a care about the Texans.

Or if BOB is just an extraordinary coach a singularly gifted teacher and is profoundly stealthy to boot.

Or, well, the hands thing.

i gave this a like.

Answer , obviously , unequivocally yes.

Watt is the only one on a window.. Clowney defacto already knows his worth, and Hopkins has a 5 year window with Watson.

We hit on our picks and we'll be okay.

I disagree by a year or 2. Romeo's not getting younger. Need to get it before Watson's 2nd contract. Wont be impossible after that but will be easier cap wise before then. Clowney gets tagged 1 more year and he's adios.

All teams plan to hit picks. Few nail enough of them.

Where's our Jon Bennett

Seriously.. calm down and breath.

Just hoping we're sitting out the early frenzy to not overpay and build a long term can-conscious contender rather than, 'no, we're good there, I can coach that guy up.'

The window of our core players as a whole. I get that we have a QB but as with other teams with a promising young QB on a rookie deal (chiefs, Jets) they’re all making moves in order to take advantage of not having to pay a huge cap figure for their QB therefore loading up and giving them the best supporting cast possible. We’re resigning Angelo F’ing Blackson. Gained seriously needs to find a way to bring in Earl Thomas or Adrian Amos tomorrow or we’re gonna look like idiots with the fifth most cap space overspending on backups and 2nd tier players

So the season begins and ends tomorrow?

So the season begins and ends tomorrow?

No, but you better believe those guys won’t be without new deals 48 hours from now. Maybe even by the end of day tomorrow. We have the money, we need to do it. I don’t give a damn if we go above market. Start filling some damn holes with quality players. And no, drafting a CB in the 5th round doesn’t fulfill a need. That’s a flier that you hope is on the roster in 3 years. Fill the damn holes with free ageints that fit our system then go into the draft looking to upgrade or inject young blood into positions. I’m tired of this conservative crap. What are we saving money for?? We’re too damn cheap to up Tyrann’s offer. We’re too damn cheap to give clowney a reasonable extension. We’re too damn cheap to sign starting caliber players. I’m just sick of the same old bullshit year in and year out.

And I get that Tyrann’s deal was on the high side but the dude is still 27 years old and that contract wouldn’t have killed us. We know what he’s capable of. And yes, we don’t know what clowney asked for but with all this money I really don’t see an excuse for losing young core guys to teams with less cap space. Especially teams that are contenders and light years ahead of us in terms of top to bottom talent on a roster. If clowney comes out and has a double digit or close to 20 sack season, we are screwed because we’ll be paying out the ass for him

Texans don't give a damn what you think

So go follow the Patriots... need a link to their fan MB?

It seems the cheapass bastards are going for the cap saving championship rather a Lombardi.

OB is that you?

No see that’s the problem. Is everything we’ve done, is to be exactly like the damn patriots. We’re not the patriots. We never will be. The McNairs will never the Krafts, Bill O’Brien will never be anything close to Belichick. I don’t care if we go above market because we as Texans fans have toiled in mediocrity for YEARS. And ppl still continue to sell the stadium out, which is nauseating. Until it effects ownership’s pockets, nothing will change. So I don’t care if we’re aggressive and strike out. I’d rather go down swinging than sit on our hands and let good players get snatched up.

SteelB is that you?

Damn instant gratification generation wants everything today and screw tomorrow

Sadly, The Texans ownership doesn’t seem to be the only professional sports team in Houston doing this.

Yep

The Rockets may win a championship this yr despite their cheapass owner.

This is becoming a Stros town. The biggest reason why? Crane spending $$$$ to bring a championship to this city. (Verlander)

Igive Crane a pass for not spending $$$$ right now because he spent the $$$$ when it mattered most.

SteelB is that you?

Yeah...because guys like Tyrann Mathieu, Ja’Wuan James and Trent Brown agreed to deals today therefore will be unavailable tomorrow. Maybe tomorrow it’s Roby, Darby, Amos, ET, Clinton-Dix, etc.. those guys won’t be sitting around until we decide that their market is a fair number that we’re willing to pay

Idont expect them to win a SB next yr. Inever have, what I did hope for is they would change the way they do business after the old man died. It's obvious now that it's not happening and long term that's very disappointing.

Same. Even though he did low ball bregman, I give him a pass because his team has brought a championship to this city recently and are still positioned for success for the future. Tillman is a cheapass in every sense of the word even before his rockets ownership, however morey is a great GM and has my trust.

Gaine, not so much. He’s done decent but so far he’s just rick smith that is actually capable of drafting

How much did you pay or save?

Not sure what you mean, but I save over $1,000 a year by refusing to renew season tickets until we finally find a competent ownership group or we start taking even the slightest bit of risks on players like most championship teams do in order to bring more than AFC south championships and first round exits to the city of houston

Nope, just telling you what it takes to win a championship.

Feel free to disagree, then look at all of the contending teams in the big 3 sports and tell me I'm wrong.

Good for you... save that money. Plenty of others waiting to take your place young whippersnapper

Thekneelers made me start missing games and guess what I haven't missed them at all.

Until 2017 Ionlymissed 3 games between 2003 and 2016.

Not that that matters to the Texans org., I'm seriously considering selling off my 4 seasts this yr even if it's at a loss.

Asa season ticketholder it's rather ironic that you get billed for your tickets just before FA starts.

That’s good. It’s a free market. That’s the great thing about America, ppl can support what they believe in and spend how they please.

I’m getting the notion that you keep flaunting your age, you even have it in your bio. Idk why you’re so obsessed with that but you imposing it as if you have infinite wisdom over everyone on the boards is getting tired. You don’t even know my age, so let’s have a healthy debate, but you’re not Yoda.

I’ve never liked that as well. The day the McNairs move on or when there’s a serious change in team philosophy is the day I’ll decide to renew
