Texans random thought of the day

Man this board is tough! Here we have the Texans having won 10 of 11 and currently with the #2 seed in the AFC (even if it's only for a few hours) and yet the majority of posters are acting like a spoiled kid who is crying because their bike isn't as cool as the kid around the corner. I don't know what some of you were expecting, but if you were told in mid September that the Texans had all but virtually clinched a playoff berth with 2 games left you would have called that person crazy.

I'm sure fvcking glad this board wasn't around when the Oilers were here.

There it is, sir.

You must not get the concept of running the ball even if it's not successful to take time off of the clock to shorten the game. Do you want Watson throwing the ball 45/50 times a game? I dont.
Sticking with the run, even when its not working, helps keep the defense honest and sets up the play action game. Of course running the ball and its working does a better job of it. And if you watched the second half, BoB minimized using the run and went pass heavy when the run was completely shutdown.

I get 3 yds and a cloud of dust just fine. We don't get 3 yds. What part of 3rd & 7 don't you understand? What part of predictable don't you get? Does OB know there is field between the hashmarks? Pass there and the clock still runs.

Steel truly thinks this team is talentless. So since Obrien has no talent he has to scale back his creativity a bit.

Yep, and that still wasn't good enough for the mob of haters.

Yes I do think they suck on the OL. Look at yesterday's OL performance as exhibit #1.

The WR corps is really hurting now that Fuller/Coutee are gone. Although I think Thomas/Carter have done about as well as can be expected under the circumstances. (Thanks Gaine)

Why aren’t we running slants and rubs then?

I’m not seeing any adjustments to the opponent, I’m seeing a game plan followed for sure but he’s stuck in that game plan without being able to see the opponents game plan.

Run the ball up the middle every first down, please stop O’Brien.

Tell me, what more do you expect, he's got 2 WR's that have only played 2 and 3 games with this team respectively. He did scheme Hopkins open 10 times. They cant run the ball due to the crappy OL.

Once again they moved the ball between the 20's and bogged down because most of the time that's where talent matters the most and with that said they still scored 2 TD's and 5 FG's with Carter/Thomas/Blue as primary playmakers. Amazing they did that well if you really think about it.

Even moreso given that the Jets were playing at home with absolutely nothing to lose...

I’m right there with you on the crappy OL.

My question is why O’Brien doesn’t call plays with that understanding.

He’s not calling anything that burns a defense for being too aggressive.

The schemes, the route trees, the drop.....

Makes me crazy watching sometimes.

He is calling plays with this understanding.

The reason he's calling these types of plays are.

1. The OL sucks
2. New Wr's
3. Limiting Watson's mistakes
4. Keeping Watson healthy, this should be #1 for this yr behind this OL.
5. Shortening the game and allowing the defense to make the stop that wins the game, just like yesterday/Broncos etc... It didn't work last week against the Colts.

Quick slants don’t accomplish this?

Thomas doesn’t understand a rub or a slant?

It's kind of hard to run those patterns when the TE's are having to block. BTW, have you noticed Watson is less efficient throwing in the middle of the field? Not saying he's terrible at it.

I love when the patriots start getting stifled at the line and the defense starts getting pressure, Brady picks up the tempo and murders them with quick passes thrown to receivers near the or just passed the line.

Boom boom boom.

Watson is made for that tempo.

So you want the Texans to throw the ball 40 times a game like the Pats often do?

That's a receipe for disaster. IMHO

We would all like the Texans offense to be like the Pats. Fact is the Texans offense right now doesn't have Gronk/Edelman/Gordon for Watson to throw too. Also Brady wasn't running the current Pats offense his rookie yr.

They scored 29 pts, how many points do you think the Texans offense should be scoring every week? 35/40? I think expectations of what the current talent on the offense is way out of whack.

What I’m saying is I don’t like the creativity of our OC.

I don’t like the design, play calls, or lack of adjustments made by our current OC.

I believe we can find a much better OC than the one we currently have.

While we agree they need an OC, which Ryan will become next season, how many pts are enough to make you happy with this banged up WR corps and bad OL?

Bottom line is they are putting over 24 on the scoreboard regularly and if the defense is as good as most on here think it is that's enough to get 10 wins. Probably 11 or 12 wins. Give Gaine an offseason to fill some more of the holes and then you will get what your looking for from the offense. Good times are ahead.

I bet you would like the offense alot more with Gronk/Edelman/Gordon/Michel/Hogan making plays.

Ryan won’t change what I don’t like.

Because that’s his creativity level since he’s been coaching here.

Better? On average I’d say yes.

Certainly better coached.

Now that Smith is gone and Gaine has a full compliment of draft picks we will see.

Can you admit with the limitations in personnel yesterday putting up 29 points constitutes doing a good job?

Which is what it was to begin with, you and Cak didn't like the BOB hire from the beginning and wont be happy with BOB even if he wins a SB.

Wrong. I was in favor of OB.

I just want to see an offense out of him. Kubiak came in and you saw the offense and team change. OB is pound your head into a tree. He doesn't adapt to personnel or scheme. I don't criticize the hire but as an offensive guru he sucks.

Dude, I like us winning.

I just see deficiencies in our OC schemes and play calling abilities.

We could be much better.

Get a good OL and that much better again.

I want us to be able to compete for the superb owl every year and have every other team scared we are playing them.

Not seeing that with our current OC.

I like OB the HC—I like the hard-nose, never give up attitude he instills in the team as a HC. I am undecided about OB the OC. How much of what we are seeing is OB not using talent vs OB covering up gaps in that talent is up for debate. Definitely think the combination of OB the HC and OB the OC is not a good long term solution. He needs to find an OC he trusts and surrender the reins of the offense to that OC.

Edleman & Hogan would be out of the league by now if they were drafted to Bill O'Brien teams. Gronk would probably get 8 catches a season.

Welker was a special teams specialist before going to NE. Moss was washed out before NE. Deione Lewis & Steven Riddley were JAG after leaving NE.

Coaching matters.

We drafted three 2nd round OL for Bill O'Brien. We haven't fixed the interior of the line. We haven't fixed the edges.

Ben Jones is the starting center for a power run team. Brandon Brooks is a starting guard for a super bowl championship team. XSF is looking a lot better in Dallas than he ever did here.

I know... Ricky's fault Brooks, Jones, & XSF aren't here. All I'm saying is I expect Gaine to do the same thing. Refuse to pay decent money for players BO'b can't do anything with.

As much as I've been biotching and fussing on here about how poor the Texans have been playing, I'm finding myself pulling for the Steelers for the 1st time in my life. Literally. I'm a Luv Ya Blue era fan. I have pulled against the Steelers even when it would've benefitted the Oilers/Texans because of that. The #2 seed would be a cool thing to have and anything can happen in the playoffs.

Don't forget about D. Branch.
