Texans random thought of the day

The rumors will probably begin to abound now...........

Ok serious question........... our DB’s and Wide Receivers are dropping like flies......... we haven’t had a full receiver roster all season long..... when one is in..... the other is hurt......... Will Fuller got hurt again last game........ Love the kid when he’s on the field but this first couple years have been injury riddled to say the least....... I don’t really think we will ever have him a full season in All actually...... with that being said since WR is a trouble spot......... why haven’t we even thought about bringing in Dez or Corey Coleman???? We are horrible in the Red Zone....... that’s Dez SPECIALTY....... Corey Coleman is a burner...... we need another burner with Will Fuller in and out every year......... why are we not kicking these tires???

Dez may ask for too much $ and is not an OB type guy,so Coleman may be the only realistic option.

Corey Coleman? That's all we need. A WR with well-established work ethic issues with a long history of injuries including to mention just some......."sports hernia"...........A PAIR OF FRACTURED HANDS...........and recent preseason hamstring tear. He was released by the Pats twice in 1 month (Sept.........once from the active roster, next from the PS).

Coleman can’t catch a cold. He’s everything we’re worried will become; but hey he’s as fast as Bortles is tall.

Don't understand why the Jordans haven't been used more.

I suppose OBrien wasn't paying attention during his time in Foxboro.

Belichick uses his tight end in the passing game and also has an offensive coordinator.

Guess OBrien is smarter than his mentor. :hmmm:

Well Belichek is a defensive coach, which is why sometimes he runs without a DC like this year. We have been leaving our TEs in to block more recently to help our line out

As big as they are, they have not yet become decent pass blockers. In that department, thus far, they have not proven anymore effective than Griffin. It's hard for a pass catching TE to be put into a play and be effective if the D does not see him also as somewhat of a pass blocking threat.........the offensive plays become too predictable.

O line that can't block

TE's that can't block

WR's can't stay on the field

No RB we can really hang our hat on.

CB's having trouble covering anybody.

Questionable coaching

Other than that we are in good shape.

And to top it all off I am out of Seaport coffee. It's time :gun: Well chit! That doesn't work either.

Does that not sound like a championship team to anyone else?

I didn’t know anything about the guys injury history...... that’s your area to know all that....... and since you answered half the question....... why not Dez?? Considering we are trash in the red zone?? We need receivers ....... that’s all I know

The last 2 years, Bryant has been a distraction to his team and has seemed to blame everyone except himself for his decreasing production.

As far as injuries, he is laden with a long list, especially in the last few years.

Throughout the 2017 season, he was slowed by a chronic (since 2013) "knee tendonitis".......probably aggravated by the patellar (kneecap) fracture in 2016
In addition, throughout the 2017 season, his ankle also dogged him (a progressive problem with the ankle he fractured the end of 2015)
Dec 2016, he started having back problems
Sep 25, 2016 knee patella Fracture Dez suffered a hairline fracture in his knee during Week 3.
Aug 22, 2016 suffered a concussion in a preseason practice and sat out the final 2 preseason games.
Dec 19, 2015 ankle fracture Bryant had loose bone chips removed from the front of his right ankle, which had generated pain and swelling.
Dec 19, 2015 aggravated his fractured Jones foot fracture and required a 2nd revision surgery.
Sep 13, 2015 Jones fracture (5th metatarsal) in his right foot. He had surgery 9/14 and missed the next 5 games (with a Week 6 bye mixed in).
Aug 6, 2015 hamstring tear grade 2 in an early-August TC practice and sat out all 4 preseason games.
Sep 8, 2013 mid foot sprain and played through the issue.
Dec 9, 2012 left index finger fracture in Week 14, played through the season but required surgery in the offseason.
Oct 28, 2012 bruised his right hip but didn't miss a game.
Aug 20, 2012 knee sprain and sat out 2 preseason games while dealing with accompanying patellar tendinitis in his right knee, also known as "jumper's knee."
Sep 11, 2011 a thigh bruise , missed time.
Dec 5, 2010 right fibula fracture, placed on IR.

Some of his injuries did not have him miss time, but many resulted in obvious negative effects on his performance.

Bottom line he is a troubled player..............troubled both by injury and attitude..........with a sense of entitlement and no insight into his present ability and worth.

I've been pretty biased against Dez his whole career, and it all stems from his attitude problems that he has carried from HS, to college, to now the Pros. I remember going to watch Dez play in high school when Lufkin was playing Round Rock here at the Barry center in cypress. Lufkin had some team issues apparently earlier that week, some players got caught doing something coach suspended them for the game. Still coming out just looking at the teams and the size discrepancy, plus the numerous D1 commits Lufkin had they should have torched RR. RR came out early and knocked Lufkin in the mouth, and Dez quit on his team. You could see him just playing at half speed all game long it was disappointing, and I have never really liked the guy since.

How come nobody was dissing Dez in 2014 when he was a first-team All Pro? Or any of those seasons when he was clearly a top three wide receiver in the game?

Now everybody has something negative to say when he's lost a step and has been hampered by injuries in his late 20's. Soon to be 30 next month. I think he's going to end up re-signing with the Dallas Cowboys.

Dez was a monster at Lufkin and Oklahoma State! But I do remember when our Houston Cougars had upset him on the road. A 45-35 win over #5 Oklahoma State at their house back in 2009. One of the best collegiate games I've seen in the past 10 years. The Houston win over #5 Oklahoma a couple seasons ago was close, but that was played on a neutral field and more like a home game for us.

I've said what I have always said about Dez his entire career. What I saw, and think of him does not take away from his physical gifts, and obviously he had a stretch where he was really good in the league. He is not a team player however, and I think he adds more problems than what he can solve at this point in his career. He is older, often injured, can no longer get separation from corners, and has been a locker room cancer everywhere he has been.

Dez's production drowned out much of the negative talk, but it has always been there. In fact, even from many of the Dez fans in these parts, it has been much more waiting for the really big screw up over the constant dramas and petty stuff has done as a pro. Remember this is a dude that was assigned a version of baby sitter and sort of told when and where he should hang out by the freaking Cowboys of all teams. If anything, Dez career on the field has always had the lurking shadow of Dez the person keeping everyone from really enjoying what he done.

Knowing 1st hand where/how Dez grew up his actions aren't surprising. He's overcome many challenges to have the career he's had. I'm actually proud of him.

Suburbanites have no idea of what I'm talking about.

With this said, I dont want the Texans to sign him.

Yeah, because Lufkin is such a bad area. SMDH

You've obviously never been to the Front in Lufkin at 2am. Drug dealing/Whores/Guns/Shootings etc...

Speak of what you know, not what you think you know.

this, those picks could have been used on lineman or crap shoots on corners. worst part is both jordans look solid when giving the opportunity,
wait let me guess. they cant block? why draft TEs that cant block

at least we are aligned between coach and GM

Me too in 1981-83. Went to college there and went down to the Front atleast once a week with guys on the BB team to buy pot. My roomate in college was on the BB team.

Have you ever been to the Front. BTW, My 1st semester I lived in Hunnington.

So despite your claims I do know what I'm talking about. Hell Dez' mom was probably one of the whores down there. Which is why I didn't find Ireland's question at the combine to be out of line.

That crap happens everywhere now (unless you live out in BFE).. even in areas that were once considered "the suburb".

I grew up in old LaPorte (still live here) and have watched it turn to shit, my own Aunt turned into a crack whore (Granted LaPorte is starting to get a little better now through new construction), but nothing good ever happens after 2 am.. I don't care where you live. Everybody has sob stories..

So please for the love of god, stop acting like Lufkin Texas is some city connected to the major metropolis of Houston or something. I have family there too.

I'm sorry you took my post this way.

It's certainly not a major metropolis.

Like you said it does have major issues though.

Look.. I'm just saying what Dez went through or the city he lived in is no longer a excuse, because of where he is now. I'm glad he ascended, but there are hundreds of "Lufkin USA cities" scattered across this country. What is suburb America these days anyways? Crime/drug activity and what comes from that is everywhere unless you're locked up in some sheltered gated Graceland Utopia, you're going to have to face it eventually.

There are tons of NFL players who have grown up in similar or worse situations, and have been model citizens, and model team mates. If you quit on your team in HS when the game is probably at its most pure, your going to quit on your teammates when your making millions when things don't go your way.

Also to your second part Idk if it was aimed at me, but I feel like it was since I was the one talking about Dez in Lufkin. You don't know the people on this board, you don't know where they're from, and you do not know what challenges life has given them. So get off your holier than thou thing because you lived in Lufkin for a few years

Is Obrien 'forcing' Watson to play from the pocket or are defenses forcing him to do so.

Lots of opinions here that Obrien is trying to make Watson into a pocket passer much to his detriment.

Am I unjustly blaming Obrien?

It's OB so no you are not being unjust.

You can tell from the play calling. Last year something like 35% of plays called for movement by Watson. This year it's about 12%.

O'Brien wants to run the hurry spread 2-TE look that is essentially his experience with the Patriots.

The how and why are a foreign language to him though. Route combinations, blocking schemes, coaching assignments ... everything that goes into teaching and making a gameplan work. These are things he doesn't coach, doesn't teach, doesn't acquire teachers for, and seemingly wouldn't know how to anyway.

The Patriots live on shifty slot receivers and bulky TE's being accessible in under 2.5 seconds. O'Brien's routes are no less than 10 yards before their break, and have no accompanying route combination to take advantage of that depth. This singularly most embarrassing thing I've ever seen on offense was when we were happy to successfully complete a 13 yard pass against the Giants. We ran a max protect 2-route (not for the first time that game), that was Hopkins and Fuller on each sideline deep curl. How desperate and complete fail do you have to be for that?

Maybe because his QB is coming off of ACL surgery?

Nah it couldn't be that.

Do you think the sh!tty OL could've had something to do with this?

Obrien is hell bent on running his type of offense. So yes he wants Watson to be a pocket passer. Which is fine but he would do the youngster some justice if he utilize the shotgun more often.

Of course. But, he didn't like Brown-Smith-Myers-Brooks-Newton-Daniels. They were all Rick Smith players and noone in their right mind wants those. The singular fault is that you cant see those names ... see the names starting today ... and realize the obvious.

Tell me Myers/Smith were on their last legs and ZBS type OL. Newton sucked and Ricky didn't want to pay Brooks due to his misdiagnosed anxiety issues. Look we've been over this many times and this is going nowhere. If you want to say BOB/Devlin/Gaine sucks because they thought signing a bunch of backup OL to be starters was a good idea then I can get on board with that.

The Patriots also live with a below average Oline (IMO). But they have an OC that can game plan for that. OB can't game plan for a trip to the crapper. I think if OB could game plan like he thought he was in New England, this Oline would be just fine. Not good, but just good enough.

If that was the excuse O'Brien would have allocated more help to his o-line in the first 3 weeks. He didn't he left Rankin and Davenport on an island far to often, he didn't start really giving help to our line until last week.

Actually he let Watson run more of the Clemson offense. Hopefully it's because Watson is getting healthier and not out of desperation.
