If I was the GM of this team, or any NFL team for that matter, I’d gather everyone around, (owner, coaches, players, scouts, every one) and I would say to them, “Look, as long as I’m GM, from here on out, every single draft, from here on out, WE WILL, WITH NO EXCEPTIONS, be taking an OFFENSIVE LINEMAN in the 1st or 2nd round. PERIOD! And before anyone goes there and starts whining about needs at other positions, I don’t give a sh!t. You can address those with the rest of the draft. And I don’t care how good the OL gets, we still will be taking an OL with the 1st or 2nd. So, construct the draft board accordingly. My policy is very simple. If the OL sucks, the team sucks! If you don’t like this policy, let me know now and won’t let the door hit me in the ass. Otherwise get the hell out my office.”

Yes, because talking to professional adult men in this manner works so well even when you have the authority to so...i.e. the owner.

I won't get into the fallacy that the only place to find OL is in rounds 1 and 2 of the draft or that drafting OLman in the 1st two rounds means that they will be good.

Osweiller was a big FA signing and in that scenario they were super aggressive and sneaky. I loved it, especially since it was done underneath Elway's nose, but unfortunately it ended up being a disaster. We paid Ed Reed quite a bit as well and we all know how that went. Smith made a lot of bad choices in FA when he actually did try to make moves.

Sure if you want to ignore the existence of Fuller, Watson, Clowney, Mercilous, McKinney, Bouye, and Hopkins.

But lets not let any facts get in the way of good ole "we've never been respectable" rant.

The 8 pro bowlers sounds great if they're not going 2-14 with it. That's how coaches get fired. OB will meet his demise very soon as well.

WTF? My preseason predictions were that you are not willing to put your money where your mouth is, and that you try to turn every thread into Rick Smith/OL/McNair/WWAAAHHH (in fact the only point I was making in the post you quoted - and here you are proving me right again). I'm batting 1.000.

Your prediction is the Texans won't win the Superbowl. WOW!!! How insightful! You can predict that for all 32 teams and you will be right 31 times! Way to go out on a limb.

Well he is way more than just a speedtser, his route running is top notch, he didn't have an issue with hamstrings in college, so you hope its a one off thing but you never know

The beginning of Oct last year, he sustained "an undisclosed injury" which some accounts referred to as a "leg injury," while some accounts identified it as a groin tear. Hopefully, besides now being increased risk now for hamstring injuries, he is not prone to recurrent soft tissue injuries in general.

Did OB start running something other then Erhardt-Perkins as his base offense?

Does Wes Welker's knowledge of the receiver roles within the offense not apply?

Is Wes Welker's knowledge of the verbiage and concepts not a help to Coutee?

There's a lot more to an offense than verbiage. BB adapts E-P to have a dynamic offense regardless of his skill position players. OB is the least adaptive coach around who regardless of the skills of his players manages to anesthetize them into at best mediocrity.

Same system in name (and verbiage) only.

An NFL offense is about 2 things: verbiage and concepts.

There is no doubt that Wes Welker helps Coutee in those aspects, regardless of your dislike for OB.

Wes's knowledge of the Erhardt-Perkins verbiage and concepts AND his familiarity with being a slot receiver (receiver in general) with OB at the helm offense are clearly an advantage for Coutee.

It absolutely will be. Probably the main reason he'll have any real success if he does. I've been a supporter of OB in the past and liked what he brought to the franchise "initially", but he's had his time to evolve and to become a major franchise coach, and it just hasn't happened. His offensive deficiencies never stop reintroducing themselves, and he is what he is at this point. Its time to move on, and I'd even be fine if we did it in mid season.
 
The problem with moving on mid season is who do/can you move onto? There are usually very good reasons they are available and those reasons usually are that they have pretty much sucked in the past. Once the seasons over, then go after a hot young coordinator that can game plan to take real advantage of the offensive fire power and hire a really good oline dude. Then draft and buy some good oline men.

Getting these two coaches would come down to O'Brien. If he insist on micro-managing the offense so his fingerprints remain in some way......I don't see any hot young OC making the commitment to come on board. O'Brien has to be removed. A new HC that wants to be the HC and allow his coordinators to manage their sides of the ball should have no problem finding his staff based on the talent that the Texans possess.

Unfortunately, yards are nice, but horrible red zone efficiency negates all of the yards between the 20s.

I'm just going to ask this.....what would the Texans offense look like if Fuller and Coutee could stay healthy for a full season? I will include Hopkins as well since it would be a miracle that all 3 could remain on the field for a full 16 game schedule and playoff games......yes, I said playoff games b/c I think if all 3 can be on the field for a full season, they'll help the Texans make the playoffs.

I also want...NEED...to see the same out of Miller and Foreman...and the OL. We’ve never seen it.
 
We are all arguing about whether Billy changed his system.

I wonder if what actually happened is that Keke got healthy and this offense suddenly started to look like it has done whenever he's been healthy?

Coutee is a game changer, his ability to exploit what is left behind when WFV takes the D deep changes everything for this team.

The throws to the slot/TE's are really opening up the offense.
