Texans random thought of the day

Forever the excuse was "Bob doesnt have his guys, he needs time to build the roster and get his QB"

What are the excuses now? I mean I see cute little comics about how coaching is only half of the equation and that somehow its on the players and not the coach. EVEN if this clown is able to resurrect the season into a winning year i'd fire him and find a better option to pair with Deshaun.

Our ILBs continue to have problems when they are asked to cover. But, of course, the comeback seems to always be to blame the coaches for not putting them in the right situation to play to their strengths. Well................

“I think we have to think about that every week.” Bill O’Brien on Kareem Jackson on if he is playing CB or S. Says it is a week to week decision.

you seem to be of the school of thought that coaches can do no wrong, and have no room for blame when it comes to player development. Our LBers have struggled in coverage during O'Briens entire tenor here. We have two Lbers who greatest trait is probably their athleticism, Cunningham and Cole, these two should be able to cover well for LBers. Cole was actually pretty darn good at it last season. So should we blame the players for not developing coverage abilities or a coaching staff who has yet to develop a good coverage LBer? The answer is probably somewhere in the middle, but from multiple posts of yours now you seem to make this out to be a players only problem, when we have had multiple players under this coaching staff not develop.

Don't we see the same thing every year - don't have the time right now, but the offense normally starts slow under OB and at some point he says "we have to take a look at it and do different things, or simplify it" seems like some version of that every year.

Seems he has a offense in his head that only he and maybe Tom Brady can understand - or it is just a trash offensive plan - and we he scraps it and goes back to what actually works - bam - the team looks better.

I'm probably remembering this stuff wrong - but was watching some of the game footage during a break this morning and got to the fake punt where they decided to leave both gunners uncovered until the snap, and just couldn't take anymore. I think OB out thinks himself, and it's not until he's in a hole that he decided to do the right thing.

are we even sure TB12 understood it, or did he just audible to a new play every time?

Our 1 inside linebacker who was just given a huge payday has decided that it was enough. McKinney is a shell of his former self after the money. Thank goodness for Cunningham.

Even before this regimen, the Texans ILBs were chosen mostly for their thumping ability. That's why we have eternally had across-the-board problems with TEs. Coming out of college, Cole was never held out as a 3 down ILB because of his dismal coverage ability. The beginning of last season, in 12 games he managed 2 INTs..........1 against Tenn and 1 against the Browns........and only 1 PD near the end of the year. Cunningham was projected as a 3 down ILB, and in time with experience I believe his coverage will become reliable, and possibly quite strong. But he's not there yet. Last year, he managed 6 PDs with no INTs. The season is young for both of these ILBs, so they will have plenty of time to show us what they have.

And I don't think that I even have to comment on McKinney's coverage skills.........in 3+ seasons (48 games), he has only garnered 3 PDs.........and 0 INTs.

I know someone asked to keep this subject in the non football zone, but I'm using this more as a quote from OB on Watson in light of what rumor has started on here over Watson. Again O'Brien isn't known to heap praise on players who don't deserve it, and this statement reiterates everything we have ever heard anyone who has coached, played with, or has known Watson personally has said about him.

McClain: After your game on Sunday a superintendent of schools made some racist statements about Deshaun?

Bill O’Brien: Yeah I’ve heard about it, John. I really don’t want to really waste a lot of time responding to inaccurate, ignorant, idiotic statements. I’ll just let Deshaun‘s proven success on the field, his character off the field speak for itself. He is one of the greatest guys I’ve ever coached. He represents everything that’s right about football, about life. His teammates respect him, his coaching staff respects him. In this day and age, it’s just amazing that that BS exists.

But it does. We’re moving forward. You know our fans, they love Deshaun and we’re really concentrating on the Giants. But I feel like I just wasted about about a minute and a half responding to that BS.

Last year most everyone on the board were ok with getting rid of both Rick Smith and OB. I can’t think of anyone who said we had to keep OB.

But if I recall correctly the media made it seem only one was staying - and that’s when some made the argument to keep OB over Rick Smith. SteelB can tell you everything that is wrong with Rick Smith...

Which OB rode the performance of Watson to say he was bringing a new offense that would be tailored to Watson...

That evolved into another debate on Watson as to whether he was a flash in the pan having rookie success destined for more challenges as teams got more tape with potential injury concerns, or if he was this type of Michael Jordan athlete of football.

And here we are.

A fan base ready to get rid of OB for another coach that can help our struggling 2nd year qb.

I blame H-E-B.

Think about it.

J.J. does H-E-B commercials can't shake the injury bug
Ozweiler does H-E-B commercials goes from the hottest F/A QB to crap in one year
Astros do
H-E-B commercials after which they can't hit/win at home. Altuve gets injured.
The Spurs do this H-E-B commercial

now the Spurs are down the tubes and none of those guys play for S.A. any more.

Watson does an H-E-B commercial and forgot which end of the football to hold.

seriously.... I blame H-E-B
:D

But the national narrative was that Bob was this hot commodity and the Texans would be dumb to let him go and bam! 4 year extension off of 4-12.

We didn't need to extend him and the decision this year is just a formality.

You may be on to something... Altuve, Springer and Correa all had the injury bug this year. Correa is still slumping hard but all three are in position to perform like superstars just in time for the playoffs.

But your theory will be debunked if the Astros repeat as 2018 World Series champions! I still say they're going to be unstoppable once the playoffs start in two weeks.

When we have that Parade again I'll be partying at H-E-B! LOL

But just in case. Keep Alex Bregman away from any H-E-B commercial!

And oh yeah, my favorite H-E-B commercial.

https://www.chron.com/sports/texans...-Shane-Lechler-felt-disrespected-13242270.php

"Driving in every morning and I'm like, '[Crap], what is he going to say today,'" Lechler said. "I'm tired of hearing we are so close. No, we aren't, we're 2-10."

O'Brien responded that he was surprised by Lechler's comments.

"I just talked to Shane two nights ago, so I don't know what to tell you," O'Brien said. "I have great respect for Shane. It's hard. It's very hard decision that you have to make.

"Shane's one of the best punters to ever punt. I've said that time and time again. I consider Shane a friend, so I don't know what to say other than that."

OB is flat out of excuses. Even with his new, "aligned", GM and no draft picks in the 1st 2 rounds.

The coach is not going to throw the young man underneath the bus. I'm not one of those people who thrive on spewing false accusations either. I wrote what I heard. Next time I will keep it to myself

I'm not trying to bash you in anyway, nor do I want you to stop sharing your opinion or rumors you hear that is fine. What I am warning other posters, and yourself is to remember they are just rumors until you actually see some substantial evidence of it. We have had some users that have taken what you have said and ran with it when so far all it is is an internet rumor that has been started by one guy on a message board. Again that I am not trying to disrespect you, this is an issue in our current society of people making stuff up online, and sharing it then you have a lot of people start believing in a bunch of stuff that isn't true. I'm not saying what you are saying is false, it very well could be true, but if it is it will come out, there are no secrets with stars anymore.

It's like if I showed up here one day saying my buddy talked with Covington, and he said he saw JJ doing lines in the locker room. Even though you do not personally know JJ, or what his vices may or may not be you aren't going to believe it because of everything you have ever heard about his character, and at the end of the day I am some random guy online.

We have no other evidence of Watson out clubbing, living the so called rock star life style your friend said he heard he has been. There are no photos by TMZ, it would be huge news in Houston much like Harden's club adventures have been. We know we have had the coaches and numerous players from Nuk, to JJ, to even our new safety Mathieu heap praise about his work ethic like everyone else in his life always has. You can not throw someone under a bus, but at the same time not continue to sing their praises either.

AJ had a habit of taking anyone on offense out on Thursday nights (think a few of the D starters would show up). I'm glad that didn't get blown into he was a huge partier off me telling that story on here.

That kind of thing is important for team building. One of the knocks on Carr was he never took his O-line out, which basically every QB does.

Don’t follow the national narrative. They don’t know much of what happens here in Houston.

I would put most people here against any national reporter on what really is going on with the Texans.

And if I recall, there was speculation that OB put that out there about himself.

That was bother issue with OB and Rick. There were always these leaks in the press to combat one another, or so it seemed, to win the favor of the public. I think thy put importance on that because McNair sees it as important? Maybe?

How can we make a blockbuster trade with the Pittsburgh Steelers?

I want to offer Bill O'Brien, Jadeveon Clowney, Will Fuller, Lamar Miller, first-round pick in 2019, second-round pick in 2019, first-round pick in 2020, second-round pick in 2020, third-round picks in 2020 and 2021.

In exchange for Mike Tomlin, Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, T.J. Watt and a fourth-round pick in 2019 and 2020.

It wouldn't help us improve our offensive line...
LOL, but you have to admire my crazy type of thinking!

I was bored so I thought of something outrageous and funny.

Texans' J.J. Watt a marked man by opposing offenses
Aaron Wilson , Houston Chronicle Sep. 20, 2018

The reputation of Texans defensive end J.J. Watt precedes him.

The three-time NFL Defensive Player of the Year still commands double-team blocking schemes and chip-blocking assistance.
THE REST OF THE STORY
***************************************************************************

The difference though, now Watt is having a good deal of trouble overcoming those same double-teams and chip-blocking that he used to routinely shed on his way to the QB.

CB Aaron Colvin and Giants WR Sterling Shepard led the Sooners to a 21-5 record over two seasons together at Oklahoma, including a 45-31 victory over Alabama in the 2014 Sugar Bowl #NYGvsHOU

Dont let one poster keep you from letting the rest of the members from knowing things like this.

The Browns defense shut the Jets down in the 2nd half. Held them to 3 points. But Baker will get all the credit and spotlight
But to be fair they were down 14-0 and looking lifeless late in the first half with Tyrod Taylor stinking it up with too many incompletions. A few of them he had wide open receivers and still under-threw it.

Let's face it bro. The Browns lose last night if Tyrod plays the entire game.

When Tyrod Taylor had to leave the game because of that concussion protocol you could see the Browns fans becoming excited and full of life when Baker Mayfield entered the game.

Baker Mayfield immediately came in and hit a couple of amazing passes in a row. Led Cleveland to a field goal drive. The Browns went into the locker room down 14-3 but you just knew they were going to come back and win because of the emotional lift that Baker gave them. That positive energy rubs off on the entire team.

I'm not taking anything from Baker, he played lights out. It just amazes me on how the entire line all of sudden knew how to block. Plus the Jets wasn't prepared and out of gas. My thing is that stifling defense will get overlooked. The forced turnovers, the three and outs they caused in that second half.

Jadeveon Clowney has been fined $10,026 by the League for taunting. Boy will THAT teach him a lesson.......a real hit to his pocketbook.............:toropalm:

It might actually turn out to be just that doc in a different way. This is another negative against JD which may be more significant as some are saying the penalty turned the flow of the game from Houston to Titans. It could be forgotten if he goes on to have a good season but grumblings going forward will have even team members remembering a senseless childish act that cost the team. McNair doesn't like stupid things that give black eye to him or his team. I didn't like it much either.

How the Chiefs finally found their franchise quarterback in Patrick Mahomes

To get Mahomes, Dorsey, the man in charge of actually working the phones, had to get creative. The Chiefs were selecting at No. 27, and thanks to the league-wide connections of Reid, Dorsey and Veach, they knew a handful of other teams were just as interested in Mahomes as they were. The New Orleans Saints, picking at No. 11, brought Mahomes in for a pre-draft visit. The Cleveland Browns (at No. 12) and the Arizona Cardinals (at No. 13) worked him out. The Houston Texans were picking 25th and sniffed around about a trade-up for him.

Cabott and Steinberg were careful to never reveal the Chiefs’ intense interest in Mahomes, lest they screw up the chance for their player to land in what they deemed an ideal situation, with a quarterback guru in Reid, stable ownership in the Hunt family and a plethora of offensive skill players.

“They seemed pretty laser-focused on Patrick,” Steinberg said. “We were more than happy to encourage their interest, and we kept their confidence and never said a word publicly about it because had we said anything, it would have put them in a compromised position to make a trade. If other teams knew they really, really wanted Patrick, they would make a trade difficult.”
