*Official Game-Day Thread** Texans at Titans Game 2, Sunday Sept 16, 2018!!

Our head coach is the reason we lose games. We lose close games time and time again because of our head coach. It's that simple to me.
I blame him for those two puzzling screen plays that went nowhere. We were running the ball well and the passing game was working. There was no need to overthink things. We had the momentum and lost it at that point.

This loss is on O’Brien...how any head coach can let the Titans beat you when their QB and three starting O-linemen are out is unexplainable and unacceptable...the ridiculous play calling on the Texans next to last drive (two wide receiver screens and then a deep ball no where close to the receiver) shows his incompetence as a play caller...if McNair had any guts, he would fire O’Brien tomorrow...but that won’t happen...O’Brien is going to waste Watson’s career just like he is wasting Watt’s career with his continued incompetence...I sincerely hope I am wrong...I will gladly admit it if I turn out to be

The only team worse in close games is Cleveland. That is coaching, plain and simple. Poor decisions, unprepared players, mental errors all over the place (WTF Watson), penalties galore...Hell even players not suited get penalties on this team. Add that to terrible time and game management and it’s an indictment of BOB.

If that isn’t coaching I would sure as hell like to know what it is. Time for an apple and a road map.

The one bright spot that bodes well is Watson looked better and better as the game progressed. He still isn’t 2017 Watson but outside the bone headed last play, he looked much improved.

But losing to this wounded animal of a team is unforgivable. Last straw for me. BOB is garbage.

This game should not even be close against Gabbert
Thank you BOB and coaching staff

As many times I've said this, I've come to realize this team is not what I think they should be. They are who they are, the ineptitude we saw against New England last week, proves we're not on that level.

The perpetual struggle against a poorly assembled, early in their scheme (so they can't be good at it), team shows me exactly who we are. If the Texans are to make the playoffs this season, there would have to be a drastic change on this team.

Time for a player only meeting & mutiny should be on the agenda.

Only down 3 points with no timeouts we had to look for quick passes toward the sideline. I'm also puzzled by Deshaun Watson taking so much time, running around and then throwing it over the middle of the field on that final play.

In the time he took on that last play we could have taken two or three shots toward the sidelines to get into realistic field goal range. By the time Watson scrambled back towards the middle of the field with 5 seconds left he should have just heaved one up into the end zone for a Hail Mary.

On the other hand, if our defense simply falls on top of that fumble during that Titans field goal drive on their last possession. Watson is likely leading us to a game-winning field goal drive. We win 20-17 rather than lose 20-17.

Our entire team has to play better...

Any theories on what the hell happened to Whitney Mercilus? Hes nothing like what he was in 2016, even before the injury last year he looked really average.

U guys so hard up to blame bob for everything...

We were told from 2006-2013 that anything that goes wrong with the team is the fault of the head coach.

Sorry for blaming the savior who was promoted as a change, finally a intelligent, prepared, disciplined guru who was supposed to come in and cure us of all our ills.

Sorry that he gets the blame for everything when it's been five years with zero progress whatsoever, with the same failings and the same embarrassments. When you get promoted as god, you get the blame.

I didn't make those rules. I'm good at discerning who deserves fault and who doesn't. But that's the precedent that was set.

He’s always been a mediocre player but when Vrabel was coaching the lbs he looked his best.

It’s still early so maybe he can rev it up and get to above average again at some point.

Honestly he always seemed to play better when lined up at right outside linebacker versus the left. His best play was when Watt was hurt so they put Clowney at defensive end a majority of the time and moved Mercilus to Clowney's spot. Just seems to play better on that side which isn't an unusual thing for defenders.

But who knows. He's just back from injury and we're only two games in. Not like these guys played much in the preseason so those coming back from the injuries have to get with the flow of things *shrugs*

Watson went full retard, no excuse for that. However, as a head coach you have to realize that your QB is in his 8th nfl game and getting lost in the moment is a very real possibility. That is what they call a coaching moment - "look, if they do something unexpected or there's pressure, throw it out of bounds immediately and we'll run something else ... read, read, bail".

He was going for the win, but with OB as his head coach, I don't blame him.

:kitten:

The reason we were in this mess is because of obrien

We should have won this game comfortably, going away.

But you don't when you play through the run instead of the pass.

Watson tore them to shreds when he threw the ball, our run game is very pedestrian, we should have been trying to put 40 on the board.
Didn't say it was all on Watson.

Between him and Clowney not playing every other game. It's becoming apparent that "resting our starters" during the preseason was a bad idea. It has lingered into them not being in game shape in the early going during the regular season.

It's a shame we had to waste our first two regular-season games of 2018. Basically treating them like preseason games because our guys didn't put in enough work during the preseason.

Although I have to say great effort by our defense in that third quarter. They held the Titans offense to 8 total yards and kept us in the game.

Yeah b/c that’s how it always works right? When u guys realize that coaching isn’t responsible for every damn thing that happens on the field, ya’ll will be better off.

Responsible for everything? Nope. Today was on a number of players, coaches, etc.

At the same time this has been going on year in and year out during his time. Players have changed but the head coach hasn't. So when do you look at him? He's supposed to be an offensive coach yet couldn't figure a way to work with any quarterback that came through except Watson though still an asterik there since we still haven't seen what we saw last year for that stretch of games. Heck, other offensive coaches found a way to even make Keenum work where O'brien failed.

Penalties fall on players, certainly, but a small part on the coach as well. Coaching is more than X's and O's. It is teaching team discipline. It is motivating your players to embrace game day. It's making adjustments. So where has O'Brien illustrated any of this? We aren't seeing discipline. We aren't seeing a motivated team. We aren't seeing adjustments. Coach has to put his players in the best situations to win. Having your QB do 7 step dropbacks behind a poor offensive line isn't a smart idea. If you watched the Pack vs the Bears Sunday night that is adjusting. Their line was getting killed so what did the Pack do? 3-step dropback and get it out before the rush could get to Rodgers. When we get mauled? Nothing changes. We keep doing the same thing expecting different results.

So yeah, O'Brien isn't the only one to blame but at the end of the day you want to see some form of progress on your team during the tenure of a coach. What progress has been made? We should be a some sort of contender and right now we're looking 3rd best in our own division. That isn't progress. That is taking steps backwards or standing still. I mean if we wish to settle for mediocre then O'Brien has proven flawless. If we want progress and have this city actually ever see a football championship on the professional level that isn't the AFL then yeah....we may need a change.

I didn't make the rules.

I operate under the premise that most Fans are fickle...& most don’t know ****...period. For years its been ourGM...2 years ago it was “we just need a qb!!!”
Now it’s apparently been our HC holding us back...we’ll which is it?

even in the face of our star qb making questionable decisions, that are major in deciding games most still wanna sweep that **** under the rug b/c their tunnel vision tells them it’s the HC. It’s moronic.

U guys need to get a grip. Players play and coaches coach...and neither group is performing particularly well.

There were positives:

-Watson was accurate
-Fuller looked great
-Miller looks quick
-The interior OL seems solid
-Ejiafor!

Absolutely. That should have been the conversation. If it's not there throw it away. Makes me wonder if it just wasn't brought up by OB or if Deshaun just fucked up.

We just don't have a very good head coach. I knew this when he brought Fitz, Hoyer and Mallett in. He's a fantastic guy, from everything I've seen, yet he hasn't learned much about situational football.

Enter Watson. I think he showed us today that yeah, he's legit. The best QB we've had in this town since Moon. Watson doesn't have a lot of experience, ergo that last play brings out the vitriol from the couch and potato chip crowd. He'll grow. The game is certainly not too big for him.

The real clincher is that Mr. McNair is the team's owner, so it looks like this team is always doomed, no matter who is under center, or who wears the captain's bars on the sideline.

I'm going to do us a favor and try to buy this team.

Tomhings aren’t as bad as it looks but that doesn’t mean things are great. Mentally weak team; top to bottom.

That last drive **** up is COMPLETELY on Watson..sorry if that doesn’t jive with you guys’ narrative.

He as the qb..the coach on the field has to be aware of the situation..He’ll he had a similar situation against Bama in the NC game. BoB should not have to remind him of the situation. That’s the type of **** that separates the greats.

It’s 2-min drill type ****. Watson has to learn to take what’s given to him.

Too bad that timeout that we didn't take before the half last week didn't roll over to this game. Threw the ball in the middle of the field lol....no timeouts. Exactly who's fault was that?

I sat in a bar in NYC and watched with other Texans fans that were there. By far the most enjoyable part of that debacle

Completely outcoached in every regard by a coach in his 2nd career game. The talent gap on that field today was STAGGERINGLY in our favor.

  • Horrific x's and o's decisions. Titans had a gameplan in trying circumstance. We exploited nothing.
  • Horrific go for it, punt, fg decisions. Punts inside the opponents 40 are turnovers!
  • Horrific discipline (Clowney, Bademosi).
  • Horrific game feel (run was there all day - 5.7 yards per carry, protection wasn't) Miller got only 14 carries - 68 yards, Blue looked like Henry
  • Horrific penalty total (o-line and special teams). 11 penalties / 88 yards - tons of hidden yardage lost on penalties - even lost 10 yards of field position on a double pass, that O'Brien should have declined
  • Horrific preparation. (only team in 8 years not prepared for wildcat, uncovered gunner for 60 yard TD)
  • Horrific sense of urgency (another sleepwalking start, Clowney "rested", not going for lead from their 37, pass on 3rd and 1/then punt)
  • Horrific courage - soft - zero guts - Vrabel punched Obrien in the throat - Tone was clear from get go - Texans still in WV Resort-land.
  • Horrific pass rush - 1 sack vs. 2 first time tackles, one signed of the street vs. sack machine Blaine Gabbert (Barwin got him 4x one game)
  • Horrific time management - last play was mental error by Watson, but O'Brien clearly can't coach or prepare a team for a 2 minute drill
  • 1-7 in one score games - 9 straight road losses - 16 games in a row with turnovers - our coach sucks
  • How do you lose a game where you outgain them 437-283 with only 1 deep int in the end zone - QB was 22/32 310 vs 13/20 117
  • O'Brien is going to lose this locker room if he hasn't already - he's lost the fanbase
  • And yes, Watson - you have got to become a smart NFL QB - that was some Deshaun Kizer level idiocy two weeks in a row -

Yeah the last play is on Watson but this whole game is on OB. It doesn't matter who is quarterback, this team is going no where with him here.

Not kick

I blame no less than half of those on O'Brien. Gotta play to score points, especially if you are not winning.

If you’re talking about the 2 punts..blame the player whom got called for holding on both of those drives that essentially killed them.

BOB would rather win by his "genius" play calling (2 wr screens in a row) than let his players win with their talent. In many games we are behind on talent. In this game we were ahead since Gabbert was playing. The problem is that BOB is near the bottom on smarts and he doesn't even realize it. He thinks he is God when it comes to the offense, hence no OC because no one could possible be better than him. Just my opinion.
