**Official Game-Day Thread** Texans at Patriots Game 1, Sunday Sept 9, 2018!!

6 punts, 2 turnovers and general ability to contain Brady outside of KJohnson. How screwed up is your offense when you spend most of the game in an empty set with a quarterback in his 8th game with no preseason.

I can live with a loss in NE. But this game has got me worried. I really Hope DW4 doesn‘t have a real sophomore slump or worse, is hurt. Defense locked great, Running game looked good, ST looked good. But this team is only as good as DW4. I Hope we get Fuller back next game, we really missed him today.

So.......

How many people had this penciled as a W?

Nobody should have. Pats were the clear Favorites - for many they are the favorites to win the super bowl. We have never won in Foxboro. We had a chance, and there was a reason to be hopeful, But Nobody should have penciled in a W before the game.

Need to hear about DW4 asap!

Hate to see Kevin Johnson going the way of CJ Fiedo. Hope he’s ok but think he’s headed to IR.

Well...we’re consistent. Score was closer than the game. Defense had its moments. Offense stunk all day. Watson looked lost and confused; dare I say like a rookie. Got some work to do fellas. JJ looked better as game wore on. Clowney was MIA. Mathieu had a great game. Kevin Johnson’s career ended today...as did our undefeated season.

BOB completely embarrassed himself today. What a freaking joke of a coaching job. Absolute trash and once again Bill completely abused him like a whipping boy.

Watson was awful. Completely unexpected. He was garbage x 10. I still believe in the kid but my God that was just a terrible performance. Shockingly bad. Hoping it’s rust. He has to get way way better or this team is going to be cow dung.

OL didn’t help him much. Run blocking pretty darn good but pass blocking was trash.

ST actually showed up today. Kudos to those guys.

Pass rush was bad. Clooney and Mercy non-existent. Outside of concussion boy, happy with the secondary. They need a better front 7.

Guess I was over the top and the Texans definitely need Fuller and Coutee on the field. The texans put up a fight, but that turnover on the first possession was the difference.

I feel the exact same way. Definitely looks like a sophomore slump is possible. Watson didn't look confident at all today. I hope he shakes off this loss and comes back better than ever next week.

I think BO'b will call better games and DW4 will get much better as the season goes on.

No. No he won't. We've been waiting to see OB call better games for years now. That SOB has been learning on the job for four ******* years now. You know what four years is? It's more than an average NFL career. There are guys whose entire window came and went while Bill ******* O'Brien was trying to figure out how to manage a goddamn clock.

That he's still on the job half an hour after this game ended is an indictment of how worthless Bob McNair is. Frankly that he went into this season as our HC is a bigger problem but this guy never learns from anything. He's doing the same **** he did when he was rookie HC out of Penn State. This isn't a problem that's going away. It's a problem that just "is". Watson won't develop playing for this guy. He'll do what every single player that's come here since day one of the OB regime has done. He'll slowly quit being what made him special and decline into a bust due to inept or non-existent coaching.

Bill O'Brien is a coaching cancer and he needs to go.

Spent the whole game working out kinks that are supposed to be worked out in preseason...offense and defense

Been working out kinks for four years. Every season they start to get smoothed out and then he tears it all down, goes on vacation or whatever and comes back next year as stupid as the day he walked into the building

With all due respect, he deserved to come back this year based on what he and Watson did together last year. It looks to me like The BOB/Watson tandem took a huge step back today but let’s see if they adjust and improve. Nowhere to go but up after that debacle.

So, just to be clear, you're saying that you have some 'concerns' regarding Bill O'Brien's ability to make Watson, and this team, any better...?

Toros waited too long to get desperate. With 6 minutes and something to go, they HAD to try an onside kick. With that much time there would have been some element of surprise. I also thought they should have taken a shot for a regulation win instead of trying for overtime. Bad coaching was the story of the day.

2 years of Greenbriar training camp ... 2 opening day loses. 2 years of not playing starters in preseason..... 2 opening day loses. Next year train in Houston and get starters snaps in preseason games. You know like in the good ole days

Is Watson hurt? Why was he stretching after the hail mary?
  1. I've only watch parts of the game. However it is obvious to me that he is still making compensations for his recent ACL. You know it doesn't surprise me but he has been showing awkward foot work. He has been throwing off the wrong foot or imbalanced. You don't normally do stretching exercises immediately after a game like the one that he demonstrated. This makes me highly suspicious that he has injured his calf trying to push off hard from his back foot in order to propel the ball as far as he could on the last play. A hamstring also could be stretched out with that type of maneuver, and could have occurred due to some instability of the knee while he was trying to run away from contact. we should find out sometime soon.

Bill O’Brien on not calling a TO to make it more likely the rags would review the Gronk catch: "It’s not my job to call a timeout there to make (the officials’) job easier." pic.twitter.com/ShfMzbYINy

A timeout there and overturned catch call would have possibly negated that Touchdown drive. In a game we lost 27-20 and had the ball in our hands in the final seconds looking for a miracle Hail Mary attempt. That's huge Bill O'Brien. The nerve of him. I doubt he's that dumb. We took all three timeouts with us into halftime also. It wouldn't have hurt to call a timeout and have that review.

I'm worried too. He wasn't able to get nearly enough on that final throw. It came down 10 yards short of the end zone.

As much as I agree with you I still saw something special for a time with BOB calling the offense and DW4 as a our starting Qb. I'd like to believe we will see that again. I doubt it but I will hold out hope a little longer. It is not like we lost to a bad team. Yes Bill O'Brien sucks and it is not likely anything changes. Still I hold out hope. I have to. It is not in me to quit after losing to the Pats in NE when most top tier teams lose there more often than not.

I do have a problem when Tom Brady, Drew Brees, and Rivers have more preseason snaps than Watson. You cant do what's traditional in terms of reps with a young qb. Once again, no other playmakers beside Hopkins. You're not gonna beat Hoody with 1 threat. Fuller stays injured and Koutee is starting off like Fuller.

No coach that’s not your job but it is your job to put your team in position to win. You failed at that.

I fear he is going to be out for some time. I hope it is nothing serious. We got to see some brief glimpses of last seasons DW4. I know he has it in him still.

I'm not one to say I told you so ... oh wait, yeah I am. We've got 15 more games to see if our stupid ******* **** ass dumb **** coach can pull his head out of his ass and do something with the monster that is Romeo's defense. So, here's to optimism.

If you guys aren't worried that Watson is hurt you guys are worried about the wrong things.

Him going down means we have no chance of winning 6 games.

I need to know he's okay

This is just a gut feeling after watching the game live, and I don't have anything to back it up with, but it felt like DW was much more comfortable with the college type plays than with the OB offense. Not that either was effective.
