Game 1 VS Pats.... Lets Predict ;)

Bwhahaha are you serious. Man he got outcoached and this is not the first time. Asked the Giants and Coach C.
I've gotta agree with Steel B. BB screwed himself to make some kind of point by benching Butler. Coach C and Eli Manning are the recipients of two of the luckiest catches in NFL history. I give them credit for winning, but BB wasn't outcoached by Coughlin.

How did I know YOU would post this.

BB chose to be outcoached before the 1st play when he benched Butler to prove a point.
It was my understanding that Butler has no idea why he was benched and nothing has leaked out about what point BB was making. Have you heard differently?

I've heard BB was p!ssed about Brady/Kraft making him trade Jimmy G and he wanted to show them who was running the show. Even though Kraft is the boss BB was challenging him.

I had heard that explanation for why he only asked for a 2nd for Jimmy G but I guess that makes sense for the reason to bench Butler also if there's any truth to it. I actually buy into the conspiracy theory in this instance. The speculation was that BB would quit in the off-season but it could also be that he didn't want to make it that obvious and may still be in undermining mode and leave at the end of this year. One can hope at least.

Barring a total melt down by the Texans, the Patriots due to devitalized available talent and injury status going into the season are a prime target for a fall to the good guys.

Texans 31
Patsies 21

Oh, there it is! I was hoping your prediction thread would show up, EllisUnit. Please convey my greetings to your good-looking family. Meanwhile I already fought back the temptation to pick the Texans and predicted Expatriots 27, Toros 24 in the other thread. I'll stick to that because of home field disadvantage.

Well thank you, and yes last year I slacked on these. But back at it again now.

Patriots are 8-2 over their last 10 opening days but they're 2-2 over the last 4 years.

Means nothing but they're not invulnerable and knowing the Texans and how things tend to work out for them I could actually see them beating New England on opening day convincingly. Then strutting around like they just won the Super Bowl before going on a 3-4 week losing streak. OB would then spend a few weeks trying to get the Texans back on track and then nurse us to an 8-8/9-7 type season and proclaim it a good thing.

If such a thing happens Sunday then Belichick will use that loss to refocus his team and go on to win another division and push for another Super Bowl.

That's just how it has always played out. Doesn't mean it would happen like that this season but that's what my pessimistic gut tells me the week before a game against New England.

Agree with you that they are vulnerable, and I'd much rather face Brady and the Pats in September rather than face the well-oiled machine they become in Nov/Dec. 24-14 Texans

I had similar thoughts to Herv. I think the best outcome is a hard fought but close victory with plenty of room for a tongue lashing from BOB to keep them improving and motivated. While I would LOVE a 48 -13 beat down or something dramatic like that, I'm afraid they will get complacent, start reading their press clippings, spend the week measuring for Letterman jackets and will come out against Tenn flatter than a pancake and get their ass kicked.

Pats have to play Jacksonville immediately the next week after the Texans. They could easily lose that game as well and start the season 0-2. They're going to have problems throwing the ball around most likely without Jules for the first 4 games with that patch work Oline they'll be using against Clowney/Watt. Texans are an ugly match up for the Pats in week one. I think the Pats offense looks subpar and we likely hear the typical "Is Brady losing it" over one game nonsense we always do at the beginning of a season where Brady plays average. Pats defense should be much better this season from the pass rush, but I don't think that will be enough to contain Watson in week one without a lot of film on him from last season.

From PFT.com

Texans at Patriots

MDS’s take: I almost want to pick Deshaun Watson to go to New England and pull off a Week One shocker, but I don’t quite have the guts to pull the trigger. It should be a close game that the Patriots just hold on to win.

MDS’s pick: Patriots 27, Texans 24.

Florio’s take: Another year, another Week One home upset loss for the Pats.

Florio’s pick: Texans 27, Patriots 23.

Maybe. I think the Pats are going to score their points. 24-30 range, give or take. The Texans have a better chance to match the Pats in points than the Jags do. I'll definitely be a huge Pats fan come week 2 though.

I have Tom Brady on one fantasy team and Deshaun in another. lol

I can't wait for the game though.

A 41 year old Tom Brady against our defense?
I can't wait to see what transpires on Sunday...

We're going to make big plays on defense, IMO.
I think we'll sack Brady 5 or 6 times, force 2 or 3 turnovers.

I'm really excited about the honey badger making his Texans debut. Not to mention Watt, Clowney and Mercilus all on the field for the first time in a LONG time. I think we can cause some havoc on Brady's blind side.

We can out-score the Patriots, sure, but we shouldn't have to.

Let's try to win this game, 37-13. I know I predicted 37-34.
But I tend to forget Father time is undefeated. Brady is still 41.

They actually all played together against the pats last year and we knocked him around pretty good..Solder was abused by Mercy and Clowney. I don’t think who the Pats have over there now is going to be any better than he was So we should at least be able to get the same kind of pressure on him this game.

Difference in this game if we wind up winning will be that we finally have competent safety play & their WR on paper looks to be trash...but u know Brady.

That all could happen too. First week of the NFL is generally a crap shoot and a lot of unpredictable games. I think the Texans are one of the most unpredictable teams especially for week one, but I think it plays in their favor. Watson is such a god damn wild card to predict what he could or might do on every play and without much film on a 2nd year returning player. Texans are one of the worst match ups for game one to me.

I remember thinking the same thing about the Oilers and Joe Montana with the Chiefs.. Granted Brady is 4 years older than Montana was, but training and sports medicine have come a LONG way over the last 25 years.

Also Brandin Cooks torched us in that 36-33 Patriots win last season. He had 5 receptions for 131 receiving yards (26.2 ypc) and 2 TDs.

The Patriots traded him to the Rams this past off-season. Not sure why. He was a great young and speedy weapon that exposed our defense last season.

People say Tom Brady doesn't have the receivers.
Well, that's because Bill Belichick traded them. LOL

Not to mention they lost their starting LT Solder & RB Dion Lewis as well. As long as Brady is standing, though, you'll never feel confident against the Pats.

Hogan torched us too & he’s still there

I'm hoping he has a big season, but honestly I don't see that much from him. He put up like 6 or 700 yards his first season as a Pat, but he had Jules, Mitchell, Dola, and other more reliable weapons around all season that year that helped him to get open. Last season when Jules went down and he needed to carry a bigger load he struggled to, and then got hurt and never really recovered all season from it. Before that, he was a nobody. Other than the Texans having a lousy secondary, I wouldn't be to worried about Hogan. I call the Texans secondary lousy without seeing them play with the addition of honey badger of course. We'll see how he helps them.

I'm not predicting a Texans win, but this could be the most winnable game we've ever played against the Pats.

They haven't been great on opening day recently.

This is their first game with a new defensive coordinator after having Matt Patricia in that role for a good while.

Brady has no real WR threats on the outside.
I think they just signed two WR to their roster who are recent cuts from other teams and have had almost no time to learn the Patriots very complicated offense and create chemistry with Brady.

Deshaun Watson

Texans defense is back healthy and whole.

Honey Badger

Additional DB additions that I think defend the slot WR better which is not only a Patriots staple, but their only real viable WR right now (Edelman **edit**meant to say Hogan) will play mostly in the slot.

Improved speed and coverage ability by our ILB, should be better against Gronk, especially since their lack of exterior weapons allows more coverage to be rolled to Gronk.
Also these ILB should be improved this year in covering RB catching passes out of the backfield.

Overall I think the Texans defensive strengths are the strongest in areas that are the bread and butter for their offense and/or where they have personnel weaknesses at this time

Sunday can't arrive fast enough!

The Texans will beat the Patriots. Deshaun will thrive.
Our defense will dominate. I'm feeling really good about it.

I just want the game to kick off already!

The biggest thing I am worried about this game is how ready we will be. After watching last nights game, both teams looked very sloppy. Both of those teams barely played their starters this preseason. We barely played our starters, the patriots played theirs quite a bit by todays standards. On paper I think we should win this game, but if we come out rusty because of lack of time playing together it's going to be a long day.

Interesting take. I could see this happening. But Watson gets loose, and he buys time all day long to throw the ball. Hard to imagine any team having the DB's in enough shape to chase around receivers all day long in week one when a guy like Watson is constantly buying extra time on so many plays.

FS1 is liking the Texans to pull off the upset.
I'm not even sure if it would be an upset to me.

Other than winning at Foxborough for the first time.
But we should have won there last season...

And he did in the playoffs

Unfortunately, osweiler
Special teams and Will Fuller also? We trailed 24-16 (one score) early in the 4th quarter in that divisional round playoff game at Foxborough.

Our special teams gave up a 101-yard kick return for a TD to Dion Lewis in the first half. And Will Fuller dropped a wide open, beautiful deep pass from Osweiler that should have been a Touchdown late in the third quarter.

That's a 14-point swing right there. What if we led 23-17 instead of trailing 24-16 going into the fourth quarter? Things would have been very interesting even with Brock Osweiler at quarterback. Brock wouldn't have thrown those picks in the fourth quarter. We're probably running the ball almost every play.

Also in that game Tom Brady threw the ugliest lob pass I've ever seen. Wobbly and poorly thrown. Basically just hung it up in the air for 10 seconds or so. And their receiver ends up catching it and three of our DB's just fall down. It would have been nice to have an All Pro Safety like the Honey Badger during that playoff game.

Deshaun Watson is an MVP caliber talent. I'm glad we finally have a difference maker and special game changer at the quarterback position. But it's still a team game. Other guys have to make plays.

This is my #1 concern as well. I was pretty upset with Bill O'brien's decision to not play his starters at least the 1st half of preseason game 3. A lot people on here didn't agree with me because of the potential of getting injured. 41 year old Brady played a full half. This was after putting up solid, shoots great numbers in preseason game 2. But he and Belichick knows the importance of chemistry, especially when they have a bunch of new players on that side of the ball.

How much do actually smoke before you post? Honest question here, because you write all these excuses out as if the Texans had any chance in that game. It was a total mismatch game where no one gave the Texans any respect with Ozweiller leading that team against what was probably the best Pats team they've ever had arguably. All these excuses and what ifs about this play or that play. It's called football. You make big plays or you make bad plays. The team that makes the most good plays generally wins. Pretty simple.

I predict that Brady leaves on a stretcher and we blow them out.

Predicting or wishing injury on anyone is very bad form and shows low moral character.
I hope for an injury free, great game and as few injuries as possible throughout the year.

Really be a close one. As Texans hopefully will pull it out. But hate to guess for the fear of curse coming if ya know what I mean.
