2018 Texans Player Transactions

I don't know anything about him, but this Buddy Howell better be a rolling ball of butcher knives if he's worth Pope's roster spot.
As much as he showed a couple of spurts in preseason, there was no way that Pope was going to make the roster..........he had no pass protection skills whatsoever............he was a clear pathway to Watson's knees..........

Texans are suppose to be working out CB Breon Borders today. dont know much about him if someone else wants to fill in.

I wonder if it’s for practice squad.

Can’t tell much but from the clips I watched looks very physical with above average ball skills.

With two practice squad slots left i'd imagine it's for the PS. Gaine knows him from Buffalo and he fits the mold of our secondary additions for the most part (willing run defender, long and can run). Will be a good developmental prospect like Chachere to add to the secondary.

I think we are really weak at RB. Miller overrated, Blue average but better than most give credit, Ervin well below average, Howell know nothing about.
Pope "looked" better than Miller. Never been a Miller fan. Goes down too easy.
If we don't have a run threat to keep defenses honest which we don't it will be a long season.

I wonder what's going with Matavius Bryant? He's more productive than any of our wr aside from Hopkins. He's big and fast with wiggle. Is he about to get suspended again?

Bryant has had a long-standing allergy to playbooks. He's also had a long-standing history of substance abuse. This will be an "indefinite suspension"........essentially a career-ender. Players almost never come back from one indefinite suspension.........this is his 2nd.........you can just stick a fork in him.

Wow, Borders is a ball hawk.

I am still all in for Dez by the way. Just seems like a good fit with what Watson likes to do and the strength of the O-line. Anyways... IMHO this team is going too vertical on a line that might not hold consistently.

We need to be more dynamic on the short routes. I have never even seen Coutee play yet he is suppose to be the #1 outlet Watson has?

Risky, risky risky if you ask me.

I bet we see we see one series with Coutee and the coaches goes "Oh $%#@# this guys is a rookie and don't know what his doing, lets put Ellingotn in there."

Will Fuller isn't just running go routes out there, his route running skills are vastly underrated and he can run plus routes now.

Dez Bryant has never been considered a great route runner and now that he's lost steps, he doesn't get the separation that he used to that covered up his deficiencies in that department. Also last I checked we have the best intermediate receiver in the league so Dez offers this team nothing.

As far as Coutee, he might be inexperienced, but I bet he already has better hands than Dez and a crap load more wiggle/speed. If you're worried about his ability to stay healthy.. Dez has the same concerns, so I'll go with the younger legs.

There's a reason why 32 G.M.s haven't added him to their roster yet. Teams like the Pats who are bleeding out at the WR position haven't even picked up the phone. Why is that?

Dez Bryant isn't coming here and is just another guy now. He's not even Andre Johnson after he left the Texans.

They're obviously hoping he has upside and will develop.

This has been the theme of player acquisition for the BOB/Gaine is 2018. The Texans have operated very much as though they are starting fresh with an entire administration...Seemingly oriented towards young players who fit profile over "proven" players nearly at every decision juncture

That’s really good, I’m happy for him. Increases odds that he’s picking it up quickly next level and could develop into something really special.

Yep, How quick he could process things and the fact that he smoked pot in the past were the question marks for him.

# Not Texans worthy, I bet they wish he was on the roster right about now.

Desmond Harrison started and didn't look overmatched for the Browns yesterday.
No kidding ? Harrison opened up the regular season as a starting offensive tackle for the Browns, left or right? I dunno but think he was undrafted ?

LT, He had a couple of false starts in the 1st half and allowed a strip sack. In the 2nd half after getting over his case of nerves, he was solid. This is the Steelers we are talking about here.

These are the types of guys I was hoping McNair would start letting Gaine take a chance on after seeing the Henderson signing.

Yes he was an UDFA, guess what, so was Jason Peters.

The browns gave up 7 sacks yesterday. Harrison was flagged 3 times and had an up and down performance much the same way Rankins did as is expected with a rookie tackle. Harrisons was PFFs 68th ranked tackle week 1 Rankins was their 61st and Davenport was their 58th. Both graded out better than your beloved Harrison.

Also you criticize the Texans for not having him because he smoked pot, but you fail to mention all 32 teams thought of him as undraftable hence why he was undrafted. He was a D2 OT who played incosistantly against lower level talent, and he had issues staying away from pot. He has size, and talent sure but it takes way more than that to be in this league

I thought I said he had a rough 1st half and played much better in the 2nd half/overtime. What does Rankins (Who I believe can play LT at an acceptable level and better than Davenport) have to do with Harrison? The difference is that one cost a 3rd rd pick and the other was an UDFA. Which one was the better value. He played well at UT and West Ga. He would've been a top OT prospect without the red flags atleast one scout said this. That's his talent level. Give me the most talented guys and I would take my chances on the talent.

BTW, just because I put a guy in my mock doesn't make him beloved by me. I just try to look at who the most talent guys are and put them in my mock. I wish McNair would let Gaine do the same.

you keep wanting to blame this on McNair, but 32 GMs, Owners, teams decided he wasn't good enough to be drafted. Once the draft is over it is up to the players to decide where to sign based on who offers them, do you know for a fact the texans didnt offer him or are you just speculating because the texans didnt sign a guy you wanted?

So far in their very short NFL careers Rankins has been better. now why dont we give them some actual time before going on some asinine rant about how the texans should've done this, instead of that. or they are both good but one is better nonsense

also McNair hasnt really seemed to care about someone smoking pot. We did sign Seantrel Hendersom this offseason or did you forget that?

I don't care what the other 32 GM's do. I also think the Kelly pick should have been used on Harrison.

No asinine rant here. I just want the most talented players on the team.

McNair did let Gaine sign Henderson. I was hoping he had turned over a new leaf. The jury is still out on that. Actually it's not.

A 7tg Rd pick for a starting LT seems like great value to me. Wouldn't you agree?

We've had a couple UDFAs who became probowlers, well atleast one.
I remember this kid, Houston native as I recall but problems with pot or some kinda dope. Not any issues like abuse, not a bad kid. But he bounced around a lot after HS from one college to another but very talented and very raw. I didn't think he had the potential to start, start for anybody his rookie year.
Dunno if Gaine just overlooked him or misjudged him or what ? He kinda reminded me of the Bolles kid the Broncos drafted last year.

See my response in the OL thread.
