Which off-season moves would you like the Texans to make? (Roster/FA)

And you already have it in your mind that McNair is the boogeyman so yeah you’re right, u should just drop it.

Nope, I just like to point out how the McNair's do business.

Best thing I can say about 2018 FA is it's slightly better than the do nothing class of 2017 FA's

Does McNair plan to fire 30+ "malcontent" players? Who will be left?

All but 10 Texans kneel during anthem in protest of McNair's comments

At least you were honest, tho': "It may have not been the right thing in a football sense. . ." That might be part of the Houston Texans, Inc. corporate mission statement.

No, I don't think McNair is going to fire them all. Why? He doesn't have to.

Players on NFL teams, like most people worldwide, are comprised of roughly about 80% followers. Based on Duane's actions, length of tenure in the league and outspokenness, is clearly considered a leader on any team he's on and the younger and more passive players want to consciously or unconsciously impress him. I think by getting Brown off the team, it sends the message that he wants to send without canning over half of his team.

Once again, probably not the best thing to do if the only thing you are concerned about is the quality of play of your football team.

We basically added three new starters on the offensive line. While they weren't the big splashy names that people were anticipating, I'm still happy with what we landed

I'm glad you're happy. They had the cap space to have a memorable offseason/season. All they come way with are avg guys like Henderson/Fulton/Kalamente.

I'm more than a little disappointed.

The free agency period is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes old.

I'm not saying that we can't be critical with the signings that have been made or upset that we didn't sign X player (we definitely can) but can we at least wait until FA is over before everyone is "disappointed"?

Texans fans are unbelievable sometimes.

And they're average backups, not average starters

HOP for me it is not about how much time gone or still available it is the FAs that are already off the board and what is apparently still available. It is abysmal for Oline. Still some hope for DBs but almost time to start looking again at draft.

I like Kelemete. He's been a very good fill-in for New Orleans the last few years but wanted to leave for a starting job. Another versatile guy who can play all over just like Fulton. Once again the Texans putting a very high value on versatility.

The Texans are targeting young, versatile swing linemen who have been very good fill-ins but are looking to start. Maybe that helps us as they will be hungry to prove themselves but this is not exactly the splash most fans are looking for. Although this probably spells the end for Jeff Allen so that's nice. We still really need to address OT.

LT - Davenport
LG - Kelemete
C - Martin
RG - Fulton
RT - Henderson

If they can get lucky and find a LT that can start early in his career at the top of the 2nd they should do whatever it takes (2019 2nd) to get the OT that can help keep Watson healthy. I like Crosby/Harrison/Nigerian dude. If they hit on the LT or RT, I think the Henderson will be playing LT next yr the OL will be much improved. Gotta hit on that pick.

Just please don't use all your cap space for Clowney. It ain't over yet.
Still need WR,TE,OL,RB, real backup QB, LB, DBs, new coaches,......
Psychologist/Psychotherapist for McNairs and BOB
Did I miss anything?

I think the Texans think Watson can do it all by himself. Ain't happening.

I think it's the Texans opinion that tall long armed tackles will be best for Watson . Just herd them outside and let Watson step up , having said that what long armed huge OT is falling fast ?

Man, drafting Brown would be risky, but I think I like the thought of 2 mountains playing the OT positions next yr. I heard Brown's interview and he impressed me.

The #Texans are signing OL Senio Kelemete to a 3-year deal worth $12 mil ($5.5 mil guaranteed).

The Saints tried extremely hard to keep him, but he saw Texans as a better opportunity.

For his junior year, Kelemete was moved from guard to left tackle and named team captain. He started all 13 games, one of only two UW o-linemen to do so. Still a team captain in 2011, Kelemete started all 13 games at left tackle again, and was named second-team All-Pac-12. He was a member of the North team at the 2012 Senior Bowl. - wiki

Maybe our new LT?

:coffee:

i will help you out.

ot Seantrell Henderson
og- Zach Fulton
og Sergio Kalamente.
cb Aaron Colvin.

Currently, he's our best LT and there isn't a better one available.

Unless we think Henderson will be healthy and not suspended

The season isn't over, but even you have to admit the Texans have fallen further behind the Tacks/Jags.
Last year the Texans won 4 games, regular season plus playoffs. The Tacks won 10 (9+1) and the Jags won 12 (10+2). So you are saying the Tacks will be at least 7 games (regular + playoffs) better than the Texans and the Jags will be at least 9 games better than the Texans.

Put your money where your mouth is. I'll take the Texans plus 6.5 games vs the Tacks and the Texans plus 8.5 games vs the Jags. $100K each so it is enough to be interesting.

The attitude you're responding to is what I talking about when I brought up passing on Asomugha and getting Joseph/Manning resulting in some (I remember lots, but whatever) folks being disappointed.

Sometimes you get better deals if you wait until players start getting nervous about the lack of (or quality) offers they've gotten and they'll sign a more team-friendly contract. Standing pat early on isn't the end of the world. Let the mega-cap room teams sign the big money guys. There will still be quality after the panic-signing wave has subsided.

If you think back, J-Jo and Manning weren't signed until about a week before training camp. We have until then to snag the guys the coaches want.

I'm not sold on how good the Texans will be this year but I don't see how JAX and TEN don't regress.

Mike Vrabel first year head coach? Pass. Even if he's good, I think he's going to have first year growing pains.

Blake Bortles maintains his mediocre play? Not a chance. Don't be surprised if they are looking for a new QB next year.

Wouldn't be surprised if the Texans finish about both of these teams in the standings if Watson stays healthy all season.

Yes, exactly this.

I remember that you said something along the same lines during that offseason and people tried to put that 'homer' label on you. I hope they remember that this offseason.

I'm with you ObsiWan. Let's call this offseason a turd when it's appropriate.

We signed both at the start of FA before Asamugha was signed. I remember most people being ecstatic since it was so unlike the Texans to make a big splash early. We decided not to wait for the decision of the best cb to get the second best.

Maybe you misremember because this was the lockout season with a pretty late FA period.

i'm not betting on anything Texans related. You would have to be stupid to even think about doing that. I dont ever want to bet against the Texans.

With that said, lets further this discussion after the draft and again after preseason.

Agreed, but I think most fans have a right to question what they've done so far in FA. It's been underwhelming so far to say the least so far.

Thing is, since the NFL set up the legal tampering period, FA has changed alot.

It's not "tampering" because they changed the rules. It's now called the "F/A pre-negotiation period"

...I heard that term today on ESPN. Mort was all in a tizzy because the panel kept saying "legal tampering"
:D

Whenever the Texans do not grab the players you think they should've acquired. You go way off the deep end Steelbtexans. Lol let's wait and see if things will pan out first before dooming it as a failure or Watson is going to get killed.

So you don't believe in any of what you say either. I give you a chance to back up your words and you scurry away like someone turned on the light.

Now the rub is, I don't think Obsiwan, along with many others on this board trust the coaches, especially O'Brien when it comes to most personnel decisions. I haven't agreed with Obsiwan much lately but IF this offseason does turn out to be a "turd" (again), I will start to point to the coaching staff specifically OB.

We'll see. If we're talking about the 2019 draft by mid-season O'Brien would probably have failed in every phase including picking his own GM.
