Deshaun Watson - Out for the Year - Torn ACL

Good to see the therapy I recommended for you is working and you finally admit that you are NOT a Texans fan, you are just a Texans hater. Which everyone on this board except you has known for years.

How's that koolaid buddy.

Had a great time, the game is about what I expected and what you should learn to expect it too.

That doesn't make me a bad fan because I can except that the FO sucks and not much is going to change, if that makes me a bad fan in your eyes so be it and please dont respond to my posts.

THX

It doesn't matter anymore. That ship has sailed. This owner and FO has obviously accepted losing out. If someone ever questions if the owner/FO truly care about winning beyond how it impacts merch sales, we now have solid evidence that they do not.

I don't believe the coaches and players have accepted it, though. Unfortunately, it's just not a good enough team under the circumstances to really compete with most teams.
Being?

Far from a troll.

I only want change within the org and if it takes them falling on their faces to change things then so be it,

In short, seeing great players careers end without a sniff at a SB due to terrible mgmt should make you want the same thing.

I don't see the debate... we had a top defense last year, we went out and got Watson who had this team scoring at an unreal pace. Circumstances are why this team is failing. Of course no team can get all picks/free agents right.....

This team has circumstances every yr.

Circumstances like not fixing the OL/DB's having FA $$$$ and holding onto the $$$$.

Even without watt last year we had a top defense, all we lacked was a QB. We got that, now should we of held onto Bouye, should Vrabel been promoted to DC so quick ? It's always easy to say what we should of done after the fact.

It's even easier to take steelbtexan's route - scream everything is broken and then when something goes wrong jump up and down "see I told you."

It's amazing the effect of letting Bouye go had on this defense.

Is everything not broken?

I mean they lost to the 49ers and I cant help you're butthurt because I saw this coming from a mile away.

BTW, no jumping up and down here, just alot of digust that I've learned to laugh at over the yrs. Sad thing is unless the Texans go about acquiring talent differently you can expect the same for the next 5 yrs. What the Texans org is currently doing with the careers of Hopkins/Clowney is the same thing they did to the careers of AJ/Watt and laughing all the way to the bank.

Deshaun Watson tweets that he wants Bill O’Brien back next season. O’Brien has one more season left on the five-year deal he signed in 2014, but said his agent has not heard from owner Bob McNair about a contract extension.

That's reported differently than a tweet in another thread. That one had OB saying he didn't know if his agent and the Texans had talked about an extension.

As a side note, agents make 1st contact all the time.

Bill O'Brien said his agent hasn't had a conversation with Texans owner Bob McNair regarding a contract extension, and he has "no idea" if that will happen after the season. Right now, O'Brien's contract goes through 2018.

What these tweets mean to me is that O'Brien's agent has made contact with McNair, but there has been no definitive offer made by McNair or agreed upon at this time.

I've been saying this since 2010.

I'm enjoying watching them fall flat on their face.

These chickens are coming home to roost.

Good grief, you are as clueless as you are obnoxious. Just because someone is a fan of the team (hint: people who want the team to succeed) instead of a hateful troll (hint: people who enjoy watching the team fall on their face and then make posts celebrating every setback - that would be you) doesn't make them blind to the reality that the team isn't very good. I do expect the team to do poorly this year.

I don't expect every injured player to come back at their previous level of production. The different between us is that I hope for the best while you hope that they are never able to play again because your enjoyment (as you have finally admitted) comes from seeing the team fail. And don't reply to me with more lies saying otherwise.

The best day of this season for you was when Watson got injured. You were absolutely giddy with delight and posting your celebratory messages in every thread you could. It was disgusting, but I guess that is what trolls are all about.

You hate the Texans, you hate the McNairs, you hate Rick Smith, you are happy when Texans players are injured, you are happy when the Texans lose: WE GOT IT! YOU CAN STOP POSTING THE SAME HATEFUL CRAP NOW.

This is a lie, if you think I wanted Watson to get hurt.

I hate nobody so quit portraying me this way.

The difference is you're upbeat thinking things will get better. I'm here to tell you they're not and I want change at the top of the Texans org. Anything that will effect that change I'm all for. If no change happens then the Texans org will eventually get what they deserve for putting such a shi**y product on the field for the last decade.

If that makes me a troll in your eyes so be it.

Per @mlombardiNFL, he suspects the #Texansmight fire head coach Bill O'Brien at the end of the regular season.

10:37 AM - Dec 11, 2017

“Suspects” the Texans “might”....

Ok....

I'm no OB fan , not even close .... But its hard to blame this dumpster fire of a season on him. He started out behind the 8 ball with the worst OL I've seen since .... hell this bunch is worse that the expansion OL. Then all the injuries .... to anyone who can make a play. Savage gets broke up again .... not that it matters. Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong ....

I could see OB back next year with a healthy cast of characters and a prove it season for him .... but most teams don't let coaches have that lame duck year , who knows what happens with this mess.

Who would you want to replace Ob ??

The Texans aren’t the only team with injuries.

And this isn’t a one off year where OB has been great but injuries derailed him. He’s made questionable decisions since he arrived.

I’m not sure who’s available but I’d look at the list and go with who I had the best feeling about.

It was a good try with OB, but it’s time for him to go. Been past time for Smith.

This is just true. He has made questionable decisions since he got here. When he was a first-time NFL head coach that was understandable. I'd be more than happy to make that excuse for him but year after year he's led us around in circles with a "One game over .500" winning record to crow about for our trouble. In my opinion, which is based on nothing but watching him and his team for four years I think what we have watched is less the success Bill O'Brien had in spite of growing pains and more the squandering of the last bit of talent that Gary Kubiak had accumulated and that was left behind when he and Wade Phillips were shown the door. I really think if Bill O'Brien had walked into the situation Kubiak took over in 2006 that the team would never have managed better than 8-8 and spent most of his short time as our HC lurking around 6-10.

I haven't seen Bill O'Brien build anything. Just use up what was here and fail to restock it or coach any of it up. If DeShaun Watson doesn't step in and start doing stuff nobody had ever seen before with record-setting performances we don't even have this conversation about extending him. He flames out at (most likely) a 2-14 to 3-13 pace and McNair sends him on his way.

Even if I was hopelessly locked into my GM the way the McNair's seem to be with Rick Smith I'd still be trying to find the best coaches out there to try and give DW4 everything he needed to succeed. Sure Watson says he wants OB back. You know a lot of coaches out there have players who got their backs. Everybody likes to play for a coach who steps up to the mic every week and takes all the blame for everything. Very rarely do players turn publicly on a coach who is leading them nowhere and that's because they don't want to be the guy who isn't a team player. The guy who is a locker room malcontent running his mouth. It's a tight bond I'm sure and players say nice stuff about embattled coaches all the time. Doesn't mean they are right or those coaches don't need to go.

Lastly I have very real concerns about his supposed coaching "magic" which after four years I've only seen work for a period of about 6 games with one QB. Well, OK Fitzpatrick had a hell of a day against the Titans that one time back in 2014 but other than that when was the last time a Texans offense just ripped someone a new one? I just can't help but think that when O'Brien's schtick worked it was because of Watson and not because he was able to open up some mysterious section of the playbook that only Football Jesus-type players can execute.

Of course O'Brien wants to come back now. He's got a QB who can cover up a myriad of flaws. Guys get QB's like that and go from being .500 or so to being legit "Guru's" in the eyes of the fans and media. Belichick without Brady is mortal. Shanahan without Elway was ordinary. Marvin Lewis without ever getting one of those guys was "Marvin Lewis". Jeff Fisher without Steve McNair was nobody. Bill O'Brien is staring at his professional legacy when he looks at DW4. That's the guy who is going to make him a legend and get him a ring or two if the breaks go his way. That's the guy who will earn him a career in the broadcast booth someday.

They don't come along that often so he doesn't want to lose this job now. Can't say I blame him. Doesn't mean I want him to stick around though.

There is no need to say anything else Big H done dropped the bomb on this thread. Well done and spot on good sir.

I would also add the myriad of benching to his hand picked starting QB'S fiasco. That showed me he really doesn't know how to evaluate that position.

Who is in charge of finding the talent to supplement the talent Kubiak/Wade left behind?

I disagee about BOB wanting to leave, said so last offseason. Coaching Watson isn't worth having to deal with Ricky's poor track record of acquiring talent and BOB has realized he's never going to win big with Ricky here. In short BOB's realized Ricky is McNair's boy.

I wonder if Bill would have any interest in returning as HC, if the FO told him they were going to pay Frank Reich stupid money to come in as the OC and instill his version of the Bills No-Huddle / Hurry-Up Offense? I seriously think that offense would suit Watson's talent as well as, Hopkins, Fuller and Foreman's.

I think we'll see how it plays out this offseason. Losing badly to the Jags has a history of seeing heads roll.
Do you think OB wants to go to Cinci? Their about in the same boat as the Texans. The Browns have stated that Jackson will be their HC in 2018. The G-men, maybe? What fun it would be if he replaced Pagano in Indy.

I think you're right about it being an interesting fit for these players (I almost think Foreman will never be back but that's beside the point) but I believe that Bill O'Brien would have a hard time swallowing having an OC "assigned" to him the way Kubiak got his DC basically pushed on him. In that case you had years wasted by FOKers (Friends of Kubiak) failing before McNair took it out of his hands. Not much he could say there and it seems to me like it was put forth as a "Look at the shiny new DC I got you Gary" move by the front office.

It's a little different having the OC guy be unable to manage a competent and consistent offense. That's just odd. Plus with the way Watson played this year I don't imagine the front office thinks he needs any help. Just a good QB and now we got that so everything should be just fine on Uncle Bob's Right Track Express.

Maybe it would depend on how the idea was put to him. Not sure how bad he wants to be here for Watson's ascendance. If he wanted to be here bad enough he would. If it was put to him the wrong way and he was insulted by it then he'd probably leave.

Thing is , I'm talking about what McNair will / might / could do ..... and based off of past decisions where he's had a really long leash , I think its totally within the realm of possibility OB is here another season .... I hope not , I hope he doesn't give him an extension , I kinda hope he fires him .... last week. But I could see him being back next year because of all the excuses ....

Great post herv

Texans franchise in a nutshell.
You can substitute different names as coaches and players.

We hit big on players (watt,A Johnson and hopkins, and limited viewing of watson, and a couple more), however the Texans fail on getting solid role players (consistently).
We hit pretty damn good in 2006 in the draft and then hit duds instead of solid players until 2011. (?)

Frustrating.

Watson will miss all of the off-season workouts and at the very least, part of camp. Bringing in a new OC or HC will put him behind in learning a new system. I don't expect it would take him long to get up to speed, but still. Would almost rather have OB finish out his contract because of that.

I think McNair probably wants to extend him....but not for what OB wants...

OB probably wants to bet on himself that next year he can get the team healthy and make some noise and position himself as a top head coach. At that point McNair would have to pay up or watch another team do so.

McNair probably wants to extend him for 2 or 3 years on a salary favorable to him if he has to cut ties.

Just all speculation on my part.

If I had to speculate more I’d say OB is back next year on a one year deal because he declined the extension or they’ll come to a happy medium on a deal that is monetarily acceptable to McNair. Either way I think he’ll be back.

As a fan we just have to hope he’s learned, changes are made and we see a more competent product for an entire year.

I've been pushing that since OB got here, but the offense (OBs baby) has regressed each year under him. It can't be denied or explained away. That falls squarely on OB.

He probably want final say on personnel and a raise. (Not gonna happen)

What do you think Ricky wants?

McNair needs to read these posts and adjust accordingly.

Then I guess he shouldn't have picked scrubs. His inability to evaluate QBs is on him.

Yeah, b/c we all know its so easy finding stud qbs in FA & the draft.

you're reaching Steelb levels when it comes to pushing over-simplified bad narratives.

"These are two guys that are good quarterbacks that have played in this league, they work very hard. They’re out here busting their ass every day to get better and I think the city of Houston should be proud of both of them." -- Bill O'Brien on Brian Hoyer and Ryan Mallett.

He chose these guys over Case Keenum, who also had experience in the league.

It's safe to say that O'Brien's ability to evaluate talent cannot be trusted.

Lol, again for the 40th time, what the hell is he supposed to say? "These guys haven't been very good over the course of their careers, but its all we had to choose from this year..." You guys love to pick and choose what you believe is true when it comes to things that comes out of the mouths of these guys to make your points & that's where you all lose.

& if we're basing his ability to evaluate talent on his FA acquistions of qbs then just about every HC who's ever coached in the NFL sucks at it...In other words, They all have failed multiple times doing this. There are 2 guy in the booth right now that you would salivate to come & replace BoB as the next HC............... & all both did for a while was collect & recycle mediocore to bad qbs.

He's supposed to say, "I told Rick Smith to go get me Teddy Bridgewater, Derrick Carr, or Jimmy Garoppolo." And that's giving him a pass on Keenum.

I don't understand what you're defending. Head coaches often strike out on QB prospects, but the armchair scouting consensus around here has been correct vs O'Brien 90% of the time. Go back and read the draft threads if you don't believe me.

This is absurd dude & you know it. It might make you feel good to hear him say that, but the reality is No HC is ever going to say anything close to that for obvious reasons especially if Chuck Pagano didn't last year during Indy's HC/GM fiasco.

& if we're talking about drafting, how is it that the guy whose's most responsible for the draft not taking the brunt of the blame here?

I'm also curious if Keenum is even mentioned in your post if not for his play this year. Keenum was an afterthought on this board when he was stinking it up in STL/LA the last 2 years. I think we both know the answer to this question.

Using armchair GM's as a barometer for being correct is aiken to Steelb's being correct about the texans not winning a Super bowl until McNair "gets serious" about winning...................whatever the hell that means. IOW, he'll always be correct 100% of the time with some benefit of hindsight, as long as the Texans continue to...........not win big.

everybody knows something, nobody knows everything

MY Dog coulda scratched out plays in the dirt and DW4 woulda made them look good ....
Only because of DW4's insane athleticism.

As of Feb 2017, in Belichick's 17 seasons with the Patriots, he is 225-80 (counting playoffs) with a 4-2 record in Super Bowls and 15 seasons of double-digit victories. Brady is 207-61 as a starter, counting a 24-9 record in the postseason........

...........But -- and it's a big but -- Belichick is 41-55 in his career in other games when Brady wasn't his starter, including his record with the Cleveland Browns and in 2000 when Brady was third string on the Patriots.

When you can show me in the history of the NFL an offense that's consistently good with scrubs at qb let me know. Otherwise, you're not saying a whole lot here.
You are slow. Extremely slow. Find a fig newton and suck on it. Feel free to go as full on retard with that as you have this post.

NFL is littered with a lot of poor coaches with bad records that had bad qbs and none of them grew up to be bill belichick.

You can look at a lot of other coaches and see a parallel in success with quality QB vs JAG QB.

If we don't know by now in Houston after watching our teams have no chance without a quality signal caller ..... that position makes or breaks a teams chances at success. You do need other parts around him but without that quality QB you may as well play for draft position cause you aint winning in the post season.
