All encompassing Bill O'Brien thread

I have no idea how this team has gotten to 9-7 in every season under BO'b with a paper mache O-line and no Qb of any significance. That to me says this team has plenty of talent. I agree there needs to be better depth and the fact that the Qb and O-line have not been addressed properly in what seems like forever and areas of talent aren't blessed with any depth behind them says we need another GM and head coach.

They've gone 9-7 for three seasons in a row in spite of O'Brien, not because of him. That defense under Romeo has been outstanding. Switch our defensive players with the Colt's defensive players and I doubt we even go 8-8. So, going 9-7 is a testament to our very talented roster, not O'Brien's super system.

O'Brien prevents this team from going 13-3 or 12-4.

To continually think of "9-7" and "division titles" as if they mean a ******* thing given actually watching this team week in week out, is asinine and ridiculous.

He has drafted very well early and late. He's picked up more UDFA's that have done well then most I'd say. Middle rounds have been terrible. And his FA acquisitions have been very up and down and mostly down. JJo may be his best.

I have wanted him gone for years. Nothing personal. I like the guy, solid citizen etc. But I don't think he's been good enough as GM.

I don't like the late round and UDFA argument. Those players are getting attention only because of our inability to bring in and coach up earlier round talent. We don't have any depth because we fail repeatedly at bringing in and coaching middle tier free agents and draft picks - instead leaning on those UDFA's to round us out. Sure those guys have made the team, but only because we've failed at acquiring and making better players.

This is pretty much a make believe situation with no substance. If that was the case then the entire team would be different with all different types of strengths. If this team had Mathew Stafford at QB last season and a better Oline, oh they would have been so much better. They didn't though. They had what they had and they did what they did. Your scenario has pretty much zero relevance to reality.

If you think any one of those teams was capable of that with the QB's we had, then just go back to the bottle. Every QB we've had had risks written all over them, and we failed to go after several Qb's on teams that we could have gotten through trade. Now they've got zero picks in the first two rounds of next season where they likely have very little chance to improve their Oline. Those are blunders by that cripple of a GM you've always excused.

To be honest it's really not all that difficult to be good in the first round.

You're right, you can basically throw a dart at the board of mock drafts and have a high chance at landing a quality starter for several years. Our biggest problem has been QB, and Rick Smith has failed at landing a QB for us to develop for over 11 years now. Why does anyone think he'll somehow do it at this point? We're now throwing Watson (A very raw player) into the starting role with a horrible Oline and very little opportunity to fix the situation next year without our first two draft picks. Watson is fucked.

O’Brien’s offenses haven’t had 9 rush TDs in a season the last 2 years.

Texans only had 2 seasons from 2002-2013 w/ less than 9 rush TDs

Damn the AFC South has been WEAK!

I think his playbook is finally opening up now he has a QB he feels can execute the throws required.
I think Watson's athleticism and ability to extend plays are what's making OB look like an offensive guru. If OB can get this out of Watson, just imagine what Kubiak could get out of him. Kubiak would basically have a young Elway at his disposal.

Conjecture.

Conjecture.

Not really. Watson is so up Kubiak's wheelhouse it isn't funny. Kind of has a track record too. Meanwhile OB is watching tape to pull plays from Kubiak.

We ran more boots today than in the last 3 years. Don't go 'athletic QB' 'cuz Kubiak made boots work with Schaub and no running game. Lead the league made it work. It's not conjecture to expect more from a non-statue.

Conjecture.
And your point is? Are you going to argue that OB has had an epiphany and suddenly learned how to run an offense after three seasons of irrefutable proof that he doesn't know how? Are you going to further argue that OB is a better offensive mind than Kubiak? OB is an imposter of an offensive mind in the NFL.

If OB continues to develop Watson and continues to call plays to his strength, I am all for keeping him. Having a great HC-QB relationship is huge, but OB must continue to improve his scheme and be willing to adapt.

Have to agree here. Kubiak coaching Watson would be unfair to the rest of the league. Kubiak had his faults but I don't think anyone with any credibility would accuse him of not being a offense genius. Fat Albert Haynesworth ruined Schaub's foot and sealed Kube's fate.

Perhaps it's that he's finally got a QB that can handle a match up offense that changes from week to week. It's certainly looked that way the last couple of weeks

Only because their was no immediate plan for post-Schaub. I think Kubiak thought he
probably had a couple more years to either get Yates ready or draft his replacement. Schaub fell totally apart really fast. Even knowing he would decline to it was shocking the way he collapsed

Yup. Totally agree. I think Kubes could have finished the season and find Schaub's. replacement if his health hadn't started to fail him. I think McNair's firing of Kubiak had more to do with his mini strokes than the team's performance. Just my opinion.

How is it when BOB finally opens up the offense because he knew if he didn't learn to trust his rookie QB he would be fired and puts up the most points in franchise history, he still gets compared to Kubiak.

I've come to the conclusion that no matter what BOB does with this team, there's a certain portion of Aggie fans on here that will hate BOB for only one reason. (He isn't Gary Kubiak)

I'd be okay with O'Brien HC and a Kubiak type OC at least until after next game..lol
